New Owner in AZ

Hey all, stoked to be a part of this crowd. I've looked at so many convertible cars since selling my 06 Z06. I was pretty much done with that build, and wanted to start a new adventure. I looked at Porsche, BMW, Mercedes and all those drop tops had crazy cost of ownership, and super expensive to get over 500hp at the wheels. I test drove a 2012 Roadster and loved the feel, similar to the 05 Mazdaspeed that I used to have, but much more power. I can't wait to explore upgrades, I love to hit canyons, track days and Auto-X.

I bought a 2013 black with 33k on the clock. Have to ship from FL to AZ. Pic's next week!

Rob

Thanks BettyZ, that's some build!! Anyone know tuners in AZ? Can't wait to get started.

BettyZ 08-26-2022 08:24 PM

AZ is close to CA. Which means you're near SpecialtyZ. One of the top-three places for a tune. Better hurry! The tuning companies are updating their software in Q1 2023 so emissions controls cant be changed

Are you looking to go forced induction or stay N/A?

I'm looking to go forced induction. I've been researching and am on the fence as to a single or twin turbo. I have most fun on tight twisty roads or Auto-x so I'm thinking the twin my be the most fun for the money.

Great! Whatever you do, do NOT buy the BP kit. Everyone who has, has regretted it.

Rob

So a week or two later, I finally get the title and register the car in AZ. I took it out to the canyons (Canyon Lake Rt88 for all you Arizonian's) and started to learn the good the bad and the ugly. To be honest, even on the Ray's with Continental Sport this car rotates extremely well in 15 to 20 mph corners, the brakes did start to fade but that was after 20 minutes or so of pretty heavy usage. The big surprise of the day is when the clutch pedal went to the floor and didn't come back. I pulled over, opened the hood and started forum searching, and within 20 minutes or so I started to get pedal feel again. After 30 or so minutes, all was well. So, I need to figure that out for sure, this thing runs hot as hell. All in all, I've had a few Miata's, a Focus RS, C6 Z06 and this thing is as fun as any of them. I can see with the right suspension mods, tire setup, brakes and power, this will be a serious canyon carver. Also didn't hate the rev-matching, but it does reduce engine braking big-time, think I prefer engine breaking and a little less rev-match if possible. I've been tortured by Z's in AutoCross for years, and I'm super stoked that I made the purchase! :eekdance:
