just got mine today......... very happy for the moment, but cannot wait until "break-in" period is over...........:driving:

what is the estimated break-in period? i was told first oil change (3750 per the dealer) and i read from different forums between 5-7000............

so, when can i drive my Z just the way it should be driven?

UPDATED PICs.................

sorry, i am currently preparing for my boards exam - so dont have much time, much less to enjoy my new toy.....

let me know what you all think... *^^*:rofl2:

take some pics for us of the new colour!

I was told keep it under 4k for the first 1200 miles. But the issue is controversial with some saying aggressive driving is good early on to help seat the rings. One thing both camps agree on is it's best to vary the RPM throughout the break-in period --e.g. don't turn on the cruise control at 2700RPM and leave it there for a three hour drive.

(edited "very" to "vary" to avoid looking like an idiot :))

I always change my oil on a new car within the first 100 miles, but that's just me. Regarding break in, I'm a fan of the high load/low-to-mid rpms method. Now how about some pictures of your new Z?

I am by no means an expert but as somebody who has built lots high-performance engines growing up and is a mech eng. There are lots of good practices. I was an intern for Dynojet for one summer, I got to see lots of really cool cars and meet some really smart people in the industry. One guy who raced for Ford factory was tuning his new mustang told me that a his mechanics good practice is to not use more than 50% of the RPM for the first couple hundred miles and then vary the whole RPM bands as much as possible including using the whole RPM band with light throttle variation or load so that all the components break in seat correctly. I would highly recommend changing your oil after your first 700-1000 miles if not a little sooner. I would recommend getting a oil filter magnet to help trap all the metal shaving that take place during this time period and keep using to keep using it after. But there are lots good recommendations to properly break in your new car. Have fun with it!

Congrats - I got my Black Cherry Roadster in early December. There are very few BCs around. I looked high & low to get mine.

I presume yours is a BC coupe?
