Mandela dead at 95

I'm not into these things. I don't even know what R.I.P. means

I just remember a long time ago hearing on the news that a guy named Mandela was released from prison in Africa & became the country's leader.

It's something that I wouldn't notice or care about, except that the guy didn't kill/slice up the people that kept him in prison. Didn't even complain or make excuses but worked with those people to improve his country. If I don't read the news in more detail, I don't even know the name of his country???

What made me remember him is because I think I'm a fair & nice guy BUT I could never & would never let somebody slide if they did that to me.

Call me weak but I would never let somebody hurt me, my family, or at one time my dog(s). Especially my dogs :) I don't discriminate, I like animals but if you're a person, black, white, yellow or red, I most likely will hate you:icon14: I guess that's why I remember this guy.

So he lived till 95, & now just like all of us will be, he's gone.

+1

Bigger man than me as well...

I'd be in jail thinking of who's gonna get it first...

Um... first of all RIP means "Rest In Peace".

Second, Mandela is an extremely important individual who played a huge role in the advancement of human rights and in the eventual end of apartheid in South Africa... you should know a bit about him... Nelson Mandela - Facts

I imagine your views on Mandela will skew towards more positive as you learn more about him...

If you care at all about humans rights and the ongoing fight against institutionalized injustices towards people, you might want to at least read a few biographical details on him.

This man fought, endured, and won his battles. His accomplishments will echo through generations. I'd be very happy if I could be half the man he was. At the age of 95, he'll finally get the rest he deserves. RIP Mr. Mandela.

"I imagine your views on Mandela will skew toward more positive"

Kingbaby understood my post. My post was VERY positive. You just don't get it. Also the answer is no I don't want to learn more. I know more than you ever will. Take that anyway you want.

I guess I don't... so, sorry. I think.

I interpreted your thread as suggesting you were opining on the internet about matters that you confessed no knowledge of, rather than simply looking them up before sharing your views -- which is what I suggested you might do.

If this is a spectacular misunderstanding on my part, then my apologies, brother :tiphat:

EDIT: Fair point on the "positive" vs. negative" views. I guess I didn't get that you were impressed by his non-violence rather than confused by it, so sorry about that.

Five pages on Paul Walker. 9 posts on Nelson ******* Mandela. This world is really disappointing.

It is a car forum (not that car-chase movies of debatable quality and cultural merit should consume so much concern ANYWHERE), but.... yeah, I agree 100%.

I have to wonder if the ratio is the same on car forums in other parts of the world...

It's the same on FB from what I can tell too. I wonder how many of the people weeping tears of blood for an actor even know who Mandela was, what he stood for and what he did to change the world.

He was a great man.

I mean, are people equally confused about matters of world relevance on European or, say, Japanese car forums.

I'd like to think not.

According to google trends...

"Nelson Mandela Dead" Google Trends

vs.

"Paul Walker Dead" Google Trends

EDIT: wait, no, I think "Paul Walker" won this round. Ohhhh, that is grim.

I'm actually fine with that.^^^^^
This is a car forum so that accident & racing should get the response it got.

Never met my grandparents or my uncle from one side of my family. They were gassed & burned in ovens. Millions of Asians were slaughtered in the 1960's. ^^^^ That stuff was handled/lived with & life went on. Not to be used as an excuse!

He Mandela is getting plenty of world attention & praise that he very much deserves from other (news) sources. After it's over I hope we get back to cars. As far as the other stuff, we have very serious crap that is eating away our country & the world just keeps going closer to world war 3. In my opinion.

My order of importance for this forum. Cars, save our country; as far as the rest of the world???? I don't give 2 cents. Just me....
