A crime against metal...I'm a Shroomhead!

I cannot believe with my musical tastes that these guys have slipped under my radar until now:

Mushroomhead Official

And I am even a huge Gwar and Skipknot fan! Some music industry executives' heads need to roll!

I bought their latest a few months ago, and within a week I owned all 4 of their albums. Expecting that their music would be more rough around the edges and experimental the more I went back, I was pleasantly suprised that they have been consistantly awesome since they started. Better late than never I suppose.

Are there any other great metal bands that I am missing?

(Here is what I listen to and like for reference)
Alice In Chains
Behemoth
Dark Tranquility
Deftones
DevilDriver (and Coal Chamber)
Disturbed
Drowning Pool
Filter
Godflesh
Gwar
Jane's Addiction
KMFDM
Korn
Lacuna Coil
Metallica
Ministry
MUSHROOMHEAD
Nirvana
Prong
Rammstein
Rob Zombie
Slayer
Slipknot
Soundgarden
Static-X
System of a Down (althought their lyrics are ultra-stupid)
T.S.O.L.
Tool
Tristania
White Zombie

If I think of more, I'll add it.

FL 4Motion 01-02-2012 07:29 PM

Iron Maiden!

FL 4Motion 01-02-2012 07:32 PM

Danzig (not quite metal, more like heavy evil rock but still fvcking awesome)

Hatebreed

Type O Negative (also not metal imo, but very very good)

Static - X

Have you listened to Slayer's Undisputed Attitude? The best produced old-school hardcore punk album ever!

Thanks, I will check out the suggestions for sure...

FL 4Motion 01-02-2012 07:35 PM

Texas Hippie Coalition (heavy rock but very good)

Black Sabbath (the one that started it all)

Testament

Motorhead

Megadeth

Misfits w/Glenn Danzig lead vocals (punk not metal but kickass stuff)

FL 4Motion 01-02-2012 07:48 PM

Mudvayne

A Perfect Circle (not metal either imo, but really powerful stuff)

Killing Joke (not metal either but I like it)

Pantera

The Union Underground (more like industrial but good)

Respect your elders and know your roots:

Steppenwolf

As well as Bruce dickinsons solo albums:iagree:

And you didn't mention mastodon.

I'm not much on the new heavy metal. Too much cookie monster vocals and drop tuning. Megadeath, old Metallica (and some new), iron maiden, sabbath, ozzy, dio, old slayer, judas priest, that pretty much sums up my taste. I'm a guitar player, so I'm easily enfluenced by guitar bands

Ack! I am suprised I didn't include them. Mastodon really kicks ***...their banjo-style speed guitar is a refreshing take on metal. I saw them open for Alice In Chains and Deftones last summer and have been wanting to see them headline sometime. Their new album is really cool!

Good catch! You are naming the classics for sure.

Yeah, where is that smilie! It is an aspiration, but I would like a hot metal chick like Cristina Scabbia sitting in the passenger side seat...hell, I would let her drive!

Enjoy!

Yeah, mastodon is good. Id like to see them live.

Man, you guys defintely are going to have me checking out YouTube for the next few nights. I will report my findings here soon.

Mudvayne is a band that I have been on the fence in regard to buying one of their albums. I am afraid that besides their really good songs (Happy? Scream With Me) I will end up with a bunch of Nickelback songs (I apologize to any NB fans). Any suggestions for a Mudvayne album?

Thanks for the suggestions!

definitely LD50 particularly "death blooms" my fav song by them and "nothing to gein" and you know "dig" their most famous song

i really like mudvayne seen them countless times in concert...but their albums started to change after that... they became more hard rock especially when chad started with other projects like hellyeah

same thing with SOAD.. their first album was by far their best... "spiders" and "mind" and "suite pea" are just epic and some of my all time favs as well as this rare unreleased song by them "blue"( not the acoustic version on serj's solo album).. after that still had some good songs but over all went in a different direction as a band

Anarky 01-03-2012 07:40 PM

Lamb of God
Arch Enemy
In Flames
August Burns Red
All Shall Parish
Trivium
Killswitch Engage
All That Remains

nuTinmuch 01-03-2012 08:02 PM

I love metal.

Primarily melodeath, but a lot of other stuff too.

Opeth, Soilwork, In Flames, Insomnium, Into Eternity, Nightrage, Ensiferum, Disarmonia Mundi, High On Fire, Wintersun, Dark Tranquility, At The Gates, Kamelot, Arch Enemy, Ghost Brigade, Before The Dawn, Kalmah, Between the Buried and Me, The Black Dahlia Murder, Amon Amarth, Bloodbath...

I'm sure I could go on.

There's a place in my heart for Toxicity as it was one of the albums that pushed me into "metal". I can't say I'm really a big fan of most of their stuff, though.

I've never been to a Mastodon show, but from what I hear they really aren't that great live. They sound okay, but apparently they lack energy or something.

Deftones and Tool are great. Has anyone heard about an upcoming album from Tool ?

**notable albums

The Beloved: Failure On

Linkin Park: Hybrid Theory

Thursday: Full Collapse

Papa Roach: Infest

The Smashing Pumpkins: Siamese Dream
