Techno music?

Ok, I've never been a big fan of techno music. This girl I just started seeing is into the whole techno scene/club/possible rave deal, I'm not. But I want to get laid so I have to pick my battles.

So, to get used to the "nn tss nn tss :ughdance: nn tss nn tss nn tss." What are some good groups I can start listening to? I would just type in techno on Pandora but being in Germany I don't have it over here.

it depends... what does she actually listen to?
Techno is a very broad term. but here are some artists
The Advent, Juan Atkins, Daniel Bell, Joey Beltram, Adam Beyer, C. J. Bolland, Frankie Bones(I met this dude in Chicago once), Thomas Brinkmann

I am more partial to house music...

but there is a lot out there, eruo-synth, acid, trance, jungle, trip hop, hard house, dubstep(which is pretty awesome)

Corona370z 05-19-2011 11:56 AM

Isamu thanks for the response. Now I can stop thinking it's just one type.

Pelican170 05-19-2011 12:30 PM

He's right, there are many many different types. Thing like ATB to Paul Van Dyke, all different sounds...

memorylasts 05-19-2011 12:39 PM

Kascade and Deadmau5 usually always hold it down... Along with the additions of what others have posted.

The genre of music has really expanded with the addition of dubstep becoming so big...

dubstep is all about big breaks and massive bass lines and some other things in the middle...

Im really digging this as of late

^^^These are good and maybe David Guetta (he has gone mainstream now). Older stuff but still cool: Paul Oakenfold, Benny Benassi, Tiesto, Armin Van Buren, and Darude just to name a few.

Corona - It depends on what you like yourself, and what she listens to.

Your best bet would be to just let her play her music and listen to how it sounds. Ask an artist name or two and that will point you in the right direction. But to assist you in trying to find the right stuff...

David Guetta - Good beats, more vocals if you don't want just the uhn tiss

Recommended listening:

Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away)
Love Is Gone ft. Chris Willis
Memories ft. Kid Cudi
Sound Of Letting Go ft. Chris Willis
When Love Takes Over ft. Kelly Rowland

*Personal Fav's

Deadmau5 - Awesome beats, awesome cocals (Canadian), kind of a made it himself kinda guy. Didn't just have money and go... Built his empire himself. (Yes it's spelled with a 5 too lol)

Recommended Listening:

Arguru
Careless
Edit Your Friends
Faxing Berlin
FML
Ghosts 'n' Stuff (And all remixes)
Hi Friend
I Remember
Moar Ghosts 'n' Stuff
Not Exactly
Try Again
Waking Up From The American Dream
8bit

*Personal Fav's

Armin Van Buren/Paul Van Dyk - Kind of in the same arena if you like the more melodic sounds. Good stuff to listen to if you want to mellow out.

Recommended Listening:

We're Alive (Van Dyk Mix)
For An Angel (Julian Ressive Club Remix Edit)
Heaven
Let Go
The Other Side (Martin Roth Remix)
Tell Me Why

*Personal Fav's

If she is German, she might like Basshunter which is essentially a guy who takes other songs and makes techno beats for them. Can't understand him unless you speak Germany, but to keep you in the know, it would help to know him.

Since you're in Germany a big hit there was Guru Josh Project with their song Infinity 2008 (You'll recognize it as soon as you hear it with the Saxaphone chord) Good song, hopefully they aren't a one hit wonder...

If she's more into Drum and Bass, or the now so called 'Dub Step' which is I guess the eventual continuation from what DnB started, you could go back to the roots with Black Sun Empire. Look for the song Arrakis and that will let you know if you like that sort of thing. (Highly recommend listening to it on a system that you KNOW has good bass. If you like it, thank me later)

But when talking about Dub Step there's now 50 some odd artists out there doing it. One I like is Skrillex who's kinda come up under Deadmau5's wings. But good stuff none the less...

Recommended Listening:

My Name Is Skrillex
With You Friends
Rock 'n' Roll (Will Take You To The Mountain)
Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (And All Remixes)
All I Ask Of You ft. Penny

*Personal Fav's

Now for all time favorite, we have the great Tiesto. His music is everywhere. And he branches out into a little bit of everything and makes it work together with seamless transitions. I'd recommend starting with him and see what you like of his work, that would help you figure out what you can tolerate and what makes your ears bleed.

Recommended Albums (The song list would be too long):

In Search Of Sunrise 4: Latin America (Disc 2)
In Search Of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles
In Search Of Sunrise 6: Ibiza
Elements of Life
Just Be
Magik 1 - First Flight
Nyana
Parade of the Athletes

*Personal Fav's

This should be enough to get you started. I will leave you with one bit of advice. Tiesto is great for sex. Trust me on that. Put the disc on, and just let things happen. It's good pacing too. :rofl2:

Hope this helps.

Isamu 05-19-2011 02:41 PM

Well it's always subjective based on personal tastes just like Rock > cRap or Rock > Country.

Just trying to give him options to look into to hear different sounds and see what versions of the 'Techno' world he likes, then once we know we can recommend artists.
