I hate buying tires.....lol

Hopefully I'll have my springs and spacers before I need tires so I can do one alignment with all the new stuff

FWIW....

A couple of years ago, I replaced the worn-out, summer-only high performance OEM Goodyear Eagle F1's on my wife's Pontiac Solstice GXP with Conti DWS's. Not the DW's, the DWS's. It was her DD, we live in central Illinois, and so we wanted something that might stand chance in the snow.

The DWS's were far quieter than the (admittedly worn out) F1's, the ride quality improved, dry cold performance was much better (F1's were hockey pucks in the cold), hydroplane resistance was phenomenal (F1's were spooky...), and ground clearance was the only limiting factor for driving in the snow. The only drawback was warm/dry handling; the DWS's weren't quite as crisp as the F1's in spirited driving situations. No traction issues, but slightly more sidewall flex that you could feel on turn-in. My wife couldn't tell the difference, but I could. We traded in the GXP 15k miles later (car was falling apart at 45k miles...), and the treads still looked great. Considering they made the car a much nicer DD, with the bonus of actual usability in light snow, it was money well spent.

Anyway... when the stock Advan's wear out on my Z, I will likely replace them with DWS's because my Z is my DD, even in winter. But I'd definitely consider the DW's as a summer-only replacement based on my experience with the DWS's.

Good luck!

How often should one's Z get an alignment?

haggomyeggo 03-15-2012 03:18 PM

Augustus...
Thanks for the review. My Z is a daily driver too unless the weather is that bad then I just grab my parent surburban they never drive. I know winters been light in stl this year so I've driven on summer rubber all wonter(I know not the best). I'm looking forward to the conti's now

I'm looking at 255/35/19 front 285/35/19 in rear with a 15mm fr/20mm rear spacer set up. And swift springs
Any thoughts?

White370j. Where is your shop? I just might have to give you a buzz when I get everything. What do you think about the above setup?
I'm a little worried it won't align wth out adjustable cambers...

Hmmm. Pardon my ignorance... twice a year for every sort of vehicle or just Z's in particular?

My Z is the first higher-performance RWD car I've ever owned, so I would expect that it would get a little more TLC than an Accord. And I totally understand the need for an alignment after suspension changes or if you hit a big pothole or something. But twice a year for normal wear-and-tear?

Historically, I get my cars alignment checked when I buy new tires. Perhaps this is a mistake on my part! I've never had a shop comment that I was out of alignment over the normal ~40-50k range that all-season's seem to last. Maybe all this time I could have been getting 80K out of them! :bowrofl:

So discounted alignments for Z's at your shop? I'm there! :)

I personal would do it more and like you said everytime you get tires to have it checked. I check mine all the time when i get bored.
And i can get you a little discount and if you buy a life time alignment you pay once and every time you want it done/ checked its free. Just let me know when your coming up

I just had 4 new tires, an alignment and rear brakes put on my Grand Caravan at that Firestone. They did a really good job. There are no marks of any kind on the aluminum wheels.

Going to have to think about sizes. I will definitely let you know though. I want to get the stock Bridgestones through this summer. I have 20k on them and they are starting to get thin on the outside edges of the rears. If I can get another 5-7k out of them, I think I will be happy.

I want to take it to a place that will take care of it though. I am freaked out to think about my rays getting jacked up. I keep them spotless!

Side-news: Got a JDM rear fog installed. It looks great! Next mod will be spacers...then exhaust. Wife does not want me to lower it though. LOL we already scrape the little plastic things in front of the wheels going into our driveway.

More side-news: Earlier this week. Pulled the Z out of the garage. Had a giant nail in the passenger rear tire. Pulled the wheel off. Ran it up to Lou Fusz. They fixed it for FREE!! Lou, compliment your service department on a great job. I will be comming back if I need service.
