favorite drives around kc

so jsut to get a lil reference going for all us kc people lets post some favorite drives.

i'll go first:

state highway H from Liberty to Excelsior (the road liberty hills golf course is on)

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=S...ra=ls&t=m&z=13

very fun drive and very technical. can't warn enough to not get cocky on this road. those 90 degree bends u see on the map are actually curves. gets really fun when u get close to excelsior. only thing u gotta look out for is slowing down thru pathersville (blink and u will miss it)

Nuki 06-25-2012 01:03 PM

I'm Nuki, and I approve this thread.

edub370 06-25-2012 01:05 PM

haha good deal nuki. just now got my pic to work

JacksonZ33 06-25-2012 01:43 PM

will follow soon, i've got to compile my thoughts, and im actually trying to work haha

Nuki 06-25-2012 02:16 PM

Hey edub, can you post the link to google maps you had before you changed it? I think that would be cool for people to click that and see the route on their own computers. Thoughts?

edub370 06-25-2012 05:27 PM

couldn't get it to work for a bit, but got it to work finally

edub370 06-27-2012 07:45 AM

surely there are some roads that people like driving around here

Nuki 06-27-2012 08:40 AM

When I get home I'll definitely contribute. Waiting to see what Jackson has to add. Maybe everyone from the KC thread hasn't seen this one yet. That can easily be fixed though.

There is going to be a cruiZe on Sunday, July 1st. It starts at Red Robin on 40 Highway, just east of Hwy 291 (470) and south of I-70. Show time is 9:30with departure at 10:00 a.m. Navigator is recommended. Flyer said it would be a "3 HOUR CRUIZE" with a stop for lunch (to be determined) after. Quick Trip across from Red Robin (or bring a full tank) and there is a Panara Bread next to Red Robin.

edub370 06-27-2012 09:48 AM

OOOOO now thats tempting. good lookin out zcar_dad!

Sweet something to do with the car before letting her sit for 6 weeks all alone in my garage.

This is a very short one, but if you're ever out south, this was my route home from high school back in the day

I'll be trying both of these here soon. Weathers plenty decent enough for me to ride.

edub370 01-14-2013 07:52 AM

Thanks aCoul82. nice to see something down sorta in my neck of the woods on here.

Nuki 02-08-2013 05:21 PM

That is exactly what I was thinking of! Definitely fun but you have to watch out for bicyclists. That is a popular route for them, too.

The 370Z is pure sex! It is hot, loud, and rough!

Let's see if this shows up. I should of added Hwy C ( Off I 435) to Hwy 92 to the start.

I've not driven that road with the Z yet, but I've done it many of times with the motorcycle. Matter of fact, one of my friends wrecked his motorcycle on that road on one of our rides and he is now paralyzed from the waste down. He now has competed for the United States in the Para Olympics for triathalons. Great guy. The last Olympics (last summer) was in New Zealand. He loved it there though he did have a great race.

I make several trips to Arkansas a year, so it is hard to get excited about the roads up here.......

mcconned 02-10-2013 10:37 AM

I "discovered" that road some years ago on an SCCA Road Rally. Great roads with enough hills, blind hills, curves, blind curves, etc. to keep you interested.

One trip just after the 90 degree left I crested a hill and a couple was in the middle of the road walking their dog.

FYI, Some years back I picked up a Missouri highway map at the Missouri visitors center at Royals stadium. It shoes a lot of county roads where, in my experience, more fun can be found.

tower74 02-10-2013 03:56 PM

Well drove the Hwy H to Hwy O....I must say O was a lot better than H hwy. Tons of turns elevation changes ..... It's about 11 miles long and worth a drive. You should be able to hit every corner around 60mph+ :driving:. It has probably 10 25mph turns and about 7 or 8 30mph turns.

Going to try out some more next weekend if the weather is good.

Oh by the way DON'T take Z hwy at the end of O hwy in Orrick. It dead ends and the pavement ends  to a gravel road. Plus Z hwy is a real rough road....

Nuki 02-12-2013 04:27 PM

Rode the Highway H to O route today. Having a co-pilot next to you to call the turns certainly helps when you're approaching a blind turn just over the hill. Props to my wife for doing a great job calling route info.

We took it slow and had a 24:39 time. Unfortunately, there are a few areas that will easily put you behind traffic, and a few others where it just doesn't feel "safe" to speed through. However I didn't stop the clock for those areas. I could definitely see shaving off some time the next time I run it. Lots of fun, excellent route suggestion.

Did you run just the H hwy? Or did you hit both? I know H was full of traffic the day I drove and O hwy had 1 car at hwy 10 and after that it was pedal to floor.

I ran both around 2pm today. Time was from a complete stop. The last leg of H after it goes through town, I was stuck behind about 8 cars, and ended up overshooting O. Hwy O had a dump truck on it, and he managed to be in a spot where I couldn't pass. (I don't cross double lines.)

The only problem with a lot of those roads is that they have not been taken care of for some time. Take D hwy out by Bate City. Great short road but it is falling apart quickly. I've noticed that quite are like this, so it's a crap shot if the road has be repaired.

mcconned 02-18-2013 08:22 AM

I took a great drive yesterday...about 150 mostly 2 lane roads. I took:
# I-435 to N/152.
#Took N to Platte City. Looped around Platte City and hit MO-371 into St. Joe.
# Drove up to King Hill then followed the "Parkway". In some spots it's very similar to Ward Parkway.
#Followed the Parkway to Krug Park and cruized it. Pretty cool park with some good photo ops.
#Drove through downtown St. Joe and hit V on the south side.
#Took V to JJ.
#Took JJ to HH (DeKalb).
#Took HH west and hit MO-116.(Rishville).
#Took MO-116 to M.
#Took M to H. Turned right.
#Took H to the intersection of MO-45 and H. (Weston)
#Took MO-45 back to I-435.

Overall, the roads were good but JJ was kind of rough.

A great mix of hills (some blind), curves (some blind), some stright aways, and even some 90 degree turns.

I've mentioned before the Missouri Hiway map I use. There's also a program called "Streets and Trips" I use a lot as well.

Think I'll try it here in a day or two.
