Some slush this morning but only rain. I'm pleased. It'll wash all that salt away.

Don't I know it.

I'm going to do a wash/glaze tomorrow and I'll be up on Saturday for sure now. No salt left over this morning.

That is a matter of opinion, I would have preferred the 5-10" of snow to the joke that it became. However, the net effect of not having to go into work yesterday was still achieved, but it felt like a major cop out since there was no snow.

dmhenderson 03-07-2013 10:34 AM

Yep. I was told to stay home yesterday so I sat on my couch and watched movies while working on project plans for next week with a big fire in the fireplace and my dogs snoozing on my lap.

All in all a pretty good day.

This, except I still had to go to work yesterday. Some actual snow might have gotten me the day off.

You guys see a boosted Z24 won the "go race against crowdsourced deathcar" contest?

Yeah, I predicted that weeks ago, that a Datsun would win. Shocker.

dmhenderson 03-07-2013 07:38 PM

It's going to get absolutely destroyed by that crowdsourced car. If they had wanted to give the competitor a fighting chance, they would have picked that 1000+hp racecar

b1adesofcha0s 03-07-2013 07:41 PM

Yeah that was stupid.

dmhenderson 03-07-2013 07:57 PM

I wanted to do it because I have friends in vegas and would have made a big weekend thing out of it.

(but I wasn't under the illusion that I actually had a shot)

I wouldnt say that. That car's going to have a huge weight advantage over the crowd sourced car. And if it's set up properly, I think it'll definitely give it a run. Also, depends on rubber, too.

dmhenderson 03-07-2013 08:33 PM

I don't think it's a quarter mile drag. It's an actual race track. I don't see that 240 standing a chance in hell.

You have it backwards, oddly enough. The 240 would likely be stomped at the drags, and at the race track is where it'd really shine...

There's much to be said about an amazingly light platform that handles great, and if he has it sorted, the HP gap wont be as significant as you think. It also depends on which track they go with - if it's something like VIR, that power is going to make a difference, whereas someplace like Shenandoah at Summit Point, the power wouldn't mean much at all.

There's a lot of variables. Seeing as the competition is going down in Vegas, I'd look into what tracks are near there...

dmhenderson 03-07-2013 08:56 PM

I would think that the Z34 would blow it away in the straightaways and whatever distance the 240 could make up in the bends wouldn't be enough.

Again, I'm new at this stuff.

dmhenderson 03-07-2013 08:56 PM

Pretty sure it's an oval track in Vegas btw

MightyBobo 03-07-2013 08:57 PM

Motorsports Race Track - Auto Racing Near Las Vegas | Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch

That looks like a likely candidate. Some of those layouts favor the 370, and others favor the 240.

It's more about momentum. On the straights, yes, the 370 would be quick as fook. But as soon as those tight twisties hit, the 240 (again, assuming it's set up right) would cut through them like butter compared to the 370.

This is seen all the time with Miata's. They don't have straight line power, and then next thing you one, one is on your *** going through a tight section.

You f-ing kidding me? They have that track I just linked near there, and they are going to f-ing Las Vegas Motor Speedway?

This fight's over then - the 370 will pull put aircraft carrier lengths on the 240 on the MASSIVE straight it'll be given.

Like Rob said, that would depend on the track layout.

dmhenderson 03-07-2013 09:01 PM

Pretty sure they said it was an oval but I could be wrong. Bear in mind, the point of this exercise will be to showcase their special snowflake so I would imagine they're going to stack the deck in its favor.

You are very correct there.

What a pity, I'd put my money on that 240 on a good, tight track. Not some stupid high-power favoring oval bullsh1t.

I think that's probably why they didn't pick a 370Z in the first place.

dmhenderson 03-07-2013 09:07 PM

I think it's a Greddy TT pushing 750+ or so with every performance mod known to man iirc. That 240 doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell.

There WAS a car that would have probably beaten it but they didn't select it.

RandyD 03-08-2013 07:59 AM

i saw no other z in vegas last week :) plenty of people saw me though :)

Nah, it's not that high. I think it's about 500 WHP or so.

It's not nearly as decked out as you think. Boost, exhaust, intake, suspension, and rims with street tires.

I believe that 240's running 350ish WHP, suspension, much lighter weight, and possibly better tires.

You're giving that 370 far too much credit lol.

dmhenderson 03-08-2013 09:08 AM

Oh I figured it was a monster. That's not really all that impressive.

Not many "monster" 370Z's exist I believe. Most typical turbo kits put them right around 450-550 WHP, depending on the kit. North of that takes some work.

dmhenderson 03-08-2013 10:19 AM

One of the challengers was at 1000+ Let me see if I can find the car specs.

Yup, here we go:

-GTM Stage 6 Twin Turbo Kit with GT35R Turbos
-GTM GTR Intake Manifold Kit
-GTM 3-inch Downpipes

Please, although a 1K HP Z is no track monster. Maybe straight line, but that's about it.

Anything north of 500-600 WHP starts to SERIOUSLY bring question to the legitimacy of a car's track worthiness.

dmhenderson 03-08-2013 10:28 AM

I have no idea what I would do with a 1000hp Z. Wacky burnouts?

I bet it makes a really cool noise though.

you'd spend all your remaining money on tires is what you'd do with 1000hp!

Rofl, talk about a show car. Those wheels and tires would make it absolutely worthless in a RACING competition lol.

But boy it'd do some sweet burnouts.

b1adesofcha0s 03-08-2013 06:37 PM

That's the "white dragon" isn't it?

That's Bullit's car.

I've met him at Znationals 2011, although he didn't have the car with him at the time. Great guy, and it is mostly a show car.
