I think the shop just goofed when they installed them. Hopefully someone can show me what I need to do to fix it at the next columbia meet

m4a1mustang 02-28-2013 08:59 AM

Fairfax this weekend. I will be there. Following the meet we'll be going to Todai for lunch.

dmhenderson 02-28-2013 09:02 AM

Not sure if anyone who can help me fix those hoses will be at fairfax. If so, I may show up. If not, I'll just wait a week.

Sales@AAMComp 02-28-2013 09:05 AM

DM, unplug the black boxes and plug the hose directly to your intake

What do those hoses actually do? I wonder if I still have the black boxes on my G3's......

Sales@AAMComp 02-28-2013 09:08 AM

They're PCV hoses, they alleviate crankcase pressure (from the valve cover) and recirculates back into the intake system

I will break something if I try to do this myself. I've been terrified of my car ever since I destroyed my headlights. I am cursed

b1adesofcha0s 02-28-2013 09:10 AM

Any real differences in sound/performance or they mostly just for looks?

m4a1mustang 02-28-2013 09:10 AM

crankcase ventilation

It's an emissions thing.

yeah that's why you see guys with FI set ups running high boost typically run a catch can set up, their intake or i/c piping isn't sucking in oil, and the catch can can somewhat "catch" some of that before it enters through your intakes

here's a snap shot of one we cnc'd at the shop for a GT-R. Except ours you don't need to dump out or hand drain, it dumps back into the block via the very last hose on the bottom

dmhenderson 02-28-2013 09:14 AM

I'm cool with like... Swapping out LEDs, working on stereos/wiring and debadging etc. Anything and I mean ANYTHING mechanical makes me break out in a cold sweat. Even if it's just a dumb hose/hose clamp.

I like that even GT-Rs have that ugly yellow dipstick lol

Sales@AAMComp 02-28-2013 09:14 AM

a little catch can 101 for you guys;

Seperating the air and oil

The idea is to trap the oil vapors and let them condensate and drain out, while keeping the air moving through - CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) testing and similation helped shape the the billet pieces and the unique geometry inside.

Catch cans are nice. I never really thought much about it on my Z (I didn't ever check to see if there was much blow by to begin with) but I ran one on my 5.0. Should probably run one on the Focus ST too.

Once you do it... it's easy. It's much less complex than wiring. I'm sort of the opposite... I HATE wiring. Scares the crap out of me. I can do anything mechanical but don't make me **** around with wires. :bowrofl:

b1adesofcha0s 02-28-2013 09:17 AM

Khoi any idea if your tuner can tune the 7AT on the Z?

:iagree:

I was super worried at first before I started modding my car. Felt a lot more comfortable after doing a bunch of installs with the help of MAZOC bros. Now I'll try to DIY anything I can rather than pay a shop to do it. It must be the engineer in me that loves to DIY.

Yeah can never hurt to have one!

That's funny. I'm the polar opposite. I'm totally comfortable ripping wiring apart and doing anything electronic because if I f*ck it up, I can go "oh hey that's not quite right" and tear it apart and start over.

I built the AV system on both this Z and my old one from the ground up. Ripped out the stock HU, kickers & tweeters. Installed a double DIN pioneer HU. Built in an override ground to the E-brake so I can play DVDs while the car is in motion (lol), installed infinity kappa kickers/tweeters, alpine 4 channel amp, small 40w sub to fill out the sound in a custom enclosure where the spare tire was among other things.

With mechanical stuff if you f*ck up, you cost yourself a ton of money

Edit: My key fob detection is spotty as a result of my "pro" wiring skillz~ (lol). I'm a hobbyist, not an expert ;)

So anyone running cold air intakes does not need these at all? I should remove them? Part of what took me so long to do the install was getting those damn tubes to line up and seat correctly...

MyKindaGuise 02-28-2013 09:22 AM

That catch can is gorgeous.

Agreed on this. Not sure if I'd ever get any functionality out of it unless I go FI which...I hate to say, I'm considering.

Technically you need the tubes for the PCV system to function properly. I suppose you could close off the port on the intake tube and install tubing to just dump the blow by into the atmosphere, but that wouldn't be very friendly to the environment.

I did similar on a few of my previous cars and have decided its not worth the hassle to do it myself anymore. If I ever feel the need to do this kind of stuff again I am paying someone else to do it. Might have something to do with being an electrical engineer...

I know a few people who can make that happen :nutswinger::nutswinger::nutswinger::tup:

Also 4r3's you need to post here more often. I get so much joy out of just seeing your avatar.

It's so much fun though. Garage day and a cooler full of beers. Production usually drops off steeply after about 2pm for some reason.

Talking to a shop that is toying with the idea of developing a FI kit for the Z34/G. Not sure I want to dump 10k into the car right now without any guidance.

m4a1mustang 02-28-2013 09:41 AM

Hey guys, we are closing in on our 10,000 post limit so please head on over to the new meet thread. I'll close this one and get the new one stickied.

http://www.the370z.com/mid-atlantic-...lumbia-md.html

m4a1mustang 02-28-2013 09:43 AM

Ugh I'm OCD we need a few more posts before I can lock.

b1adesofcha0s 02-28-2013 09:44 AM

We should definitely hit 10k before abandoning this one though. It's just the right thing to do :p

b1adesofcha0s 02-28-2013 09:44 AM

Just 4 more posts

b1adesofcha0s 02-28-2013 09:45 AM

Till we hit 10k

m4a1mustang 02-28-2013 09:45 AM

We have to eclipse it.

b1adesofcha0s 02-28-2013 09:45 AM

Then we can close the thread.
