True, ive just had 3 terrible experiences. I had PPI's done on all 3 cars. My srt8 charger, m3, and s4. Each one of them had been dogged cause out of the 3 cars, two trannies had issues (s4 and charger), oil leaks on all 3, and a plethora of other issues.

So yeah you can see im a tad hesitant buying new. Some people luck out, some others, not so much.

edit: I did luck out on my clk500, except for when the nav decided to crap out on me while being lost on florida avenue in DC.

Steve let me know when you get these, I would really like to check them out, and see if you're happy with them.

m4a1mustang 12-18-2012 01:57 PM

Will do. Hopefully soon. I'm planning on adding some heated elements to. Should be nice.

XwChriswX 12-18-2012 01:59 PM

Since I'm putting covers on you just have to place the heating elements on top of the factory leather, wire everything up and you're good to go.

eastwest2300 12-18-2012 03:10 PM

No sh!t, dude if it comes out well, I'll throw you some cash to help me do mine.

eastwest2300 12-19-2012 10:16 AM

I gotta take another trip up north (PA) on Friday... zoom! zoom!

m4a1mustang 12-19-2012 11:03 AM

I'm holding off on it for now since I'm spending a ton on some sound proofing equipment and a convertible top headliner. :)

dmhenderson 12-19-2012 11:08 AM

I ordered more of that GT dynamat stuff. Just need a nice day to install it.

Yeah I am in the habit of hosting conference calls from my car - until a couple days ago when I accelerated at a light and a customer goes "what is this, NASCAR?"

:bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl:

That's hilarious! I hear you, though. Occasionally I'm on calls while in the car. In order to hear someone on the highway with the S I'd have to slow to 50 mph. :icon17:

b1adesofcha0s 12-19-2012 01:50 PM

Not when you see how much it costs :p

eastwest2300 12-19-2012 01:54 PM

I'll shop around for it, as I always do.

sounddeadenershowdown.com

CLD tiles (aka Dynamat) using the 25% coverage method (full dynamat coverage is overkill)
1/8" closed cell foam decoupler
1/8" mass loaded vinyl (already have this from another source)
3M Thinsulate Acoustic

Also have some stuff called QuietCoat which I might use in areas where the MLV and CCF is not feasible.

Goal is to do it in such a way that doesn't add too much extra weight. Under 50 lbs will be fine. I want it mostly removable for when I get a new DD in 2014 and turbo or ls swap the S.

Also ordering a soft top headliner from a German company (auco.de) which will help cut down on the soft top noise transmission, improve heating/cooling, and provide a nice finished look instead of the top frame.

m4a1mustang 12-19-2012 03:25 PM

Installed soft top headliner and all of the color options:

Try that same car with all sound deadening removed, a hole in the top, and a straight through exhaust, on a 12 hour drive.

There is no deadening to remove. But yes, that would suck.

There is a little bit of asphalt mat by the spare tire and some padding underneath the convertible tray. Doesn't really do much. :icon17:
