I discovered Hampton Road (647) near D.C. It has a few outlets, but is very twisty with quick elevation changes and is right in Lorton.
I posted this in Nashville thread recently, but it deserves more exposure: MotorcycleRoads.US - Great roads in the US for motorcyclists, sports car drivers, tourists, and other travelers |

Hampton Road
Fairfax County map: VA-647/Hampton Rd to VA-647/Hampton Rd - Google Maps mini-route I followed: http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=VA...a=1,2&t=h&z=13 Distance: ~ 4.5 miles Road Condition: Good. Pretty bumpy - and some potholes. Lined: Yes Posted speed Limit: 35 Speed Enforcement: Light Traffic: Light - Moderate Comments: It has a few outlets, but is very twisty with quick elevation changes and is right in Lorton. (takjak2) When I ran it, i was concerned about all the driveways that opened up on to the road, had to keep it pretty slow. The scenery was nice, and it is certainly close in. This vid is of the tail end of Hampton... notice the idiot who is on the wrong side of the road as I turn the corner (at :50) ... (I prefer a road with nobody on it) |
Randy, you're a BEAST!
:worship: |
This road in midwestern VA is extremely fun for those who like twisties, and is a 10 minute drive from 64, I make a point of running it a few times every time I drive home. I have never seen a cop on it and according to the gas station attendant at one end of it they turn around at the south end of it because thats the county line. Enjoy

Fantastic thread. Much needed and appreciated.
That said nothing beats fresh asphalt with one way traffic. Lightning and Thunderbolt at NJMP. So much better than Summit!!! |

Rogues Road (Rogues is a very long road that stretches from Rt 29 out side Warrenton(this section) to Nokesville but has been chopped into many smaller sections over the years)
Fauquier County (VA) map: My Saved Places - Google Maps Distance: ~ 3.5 miles Road Condition: Good Lined: No Posted speed Limit: 45 - 35 Speed Enforcement: never seen one back there Traffic: Light - none Comments: There are other sections I left out Just to highlight this smaller stretch. This is the by far the funnest road ever constructed. Fun going both directions. Trees and Horse farms along the sides. Note 1: No video because its impossible for anyone to HOLD a camera steady on this road (we need Randy) Note 2: Go SLOW the 1st time or 3! PLEASE. You will understand when you see it. |

(also a real bummer about the rain on this trip) check out the twisties on the Garmin they never stop... :) |

Morgan Ford Road
Warren County, VA map: Google Maps Distance: ~ 8.5 miles Road Condition: Moderate (pretty narrow) Lined: No Posted speed Limit: Speed Enforcement: low Traffic: Light Comments: Very odd for me - almost zero turns.. a very long straight road - but great scenery, and some fun elevation changes to break up your high speed run. (check out the nice run at about 8:20 - good visibility) a note about the bridge: The existing multi-span bridge is a single lane structure built in 1925, which is 321-feet long with a single 11-foot wide lane. The existing bridge does not meet the current design standards and is in poor condition. During the design process the existing bridge was evaluated for repair and rehabilitation, but it was not economically feasible to pursue this course of action due to safety issues and economic reasons. soon it will not be possible to experience this bridge - as it is being replaced. |
Creek Road
Chester County, PA map: Google Maps Distance: ~ 3.5 miles Road Condition: Moderate (narrow - some bumps) Lined: Yes Posted speed Limit: 35 Speed Enforcement: low Traffic: Moderate Comments: beautiful road from West Chester to Chadds Ford. gets more traffic than i typically enjoy but really worth it when it's open. |
Fairhaven Road
Anne Arundel County, MD map: Google Maps Distance: ~ 2.75 miles Road Condition: Moderate (narrow - some bumps) Lined: No Posted speed Limit: 25-30 Speed Enforcement: low Traffic: low Comments: fun twisty, narrow, backwoods road near the Chesapeake. Maryland Route 423 was first paved in 1933. The 1939 Maryland state highway map shows MD 423 marked along its present course |

The Reisterstown Road Test Drive Loop
Owings Mills, MD map: https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=G...via=1,2,3&z=14 Distance: ~ 7 miles Road Condition: Excellent, but two speed humps Lined: Yes Posted speed Limit: 30 Speed Enforcement: usually near the red light Traffic: moderate Comments: fun twisty, narrow, backwoods road near a ton of car dealerships on Reisterstown Rd in Owings Mills. The Mini dealership there is the largest in the country, and they take people on this road for the test drive. I tested my STI there before buying it, too. But be careful and considerate. This is a residential area with some speed enforcement, a few stop signs around blind corners, and at least one corner that is too sharp for its posted speed. It is incredible fun, but be careful. I don't have a video yet, but I may go out and get one this summer. |
