I have no clue either, but I thought It would be good to let others know. That way, they can be prepared in case D&L guys want to try something like that again. I will say this, do not give them your car or keys until you work everything out and authorize them to start working on the car. I went in just to get a price quote and they started working on my car without my permission. Then they wanted to charge me for the tint they already cut and were refusing to give me back my car unless I paid them. They did give them back after a little arguing, but not before calling me a jerk and telling me to get the Hell out. Just be careful if you go there guys.

Had a horrible experience with D&L tinting in White Marsh. Didn't get any work done from them, but they tried to hold me hostage and blackmail me. I'm sure the quality of their work is fine, but their customer service is the absolute worst I've ever seen/experienced.

Xlnt tint down in Owings, MD (NOT Owings Mills) did a hood job with my tint and for a good price as well. The vinyl on my tail lights is starting to peel off, but they are going to fix it for free. Jeff at Xlnt Tint has been very nice and helpful throughout this while process. He's willing to adjust his schedule with mine and even stayed an hour past his usual closing time to finish working on my car.

LOL at your car being held hostage, I don't know why you had troubles with D&L, I've had tons of work done there and they used to wash my car every week without any issues. Now tell us the truth Shahid, did the owner catch you looking at his daughter and wife funny? Come on, tell us :p

I think that misunderstanding might have been the source of your misfortune.

No! :icon17:

It did get me really angry though. I was probably like 1-2 minutes away from calling the police. BTW, how much did you pay for your tail light? He was asking me $200, which is when I told him that I would get it done from somewhere else. Worst part was that I skipped class to get there on time

birdmanx1 06-06-2011 08:59 PM

:) I had to ask. I def understand your anger. $200 for headlights is actually pretty darn good since these lights are extremely hard to work on. I don't remember how much I had them done for because there were a lot of things I was getting done.

b1adesofcha0s 06-06-2011 09:58 PM

I had 2 other shops (including the one I went to) quote me $100-120 for the same tail lights. Even 180 customs in NY paints them for less than $200.

I told you to stop taking pix of my car before its ready.... Seriously, 1 day more to get the center caps on and finish the job, and you couldn't wait. :shakes head::shakes head::shakes head::shakes head::shakes head::shakes head::shakes head:

When I got my Z, I got clear bra on front bumper, little bits on the front two quarter panels, hood, headlights, mirrors, A-pillars, and roofline. I also got 35% tint on sides and back.

I got this done at D&L all for around 1200 bucks.

Believe me, you'll need that and more :) I had mine done at D&L tinting as well; they did the rear bumper, side skirts, wheel panels add $300 - $500 for the extra parts listed above. The clearbra shield was worthy the cost.

Called them today. They quoted me $695 for the standard kit. They don't seem to be familiar with venture shield which is also made by 3M. Proshield in sterling use venture shield and quoted me the same price except that venture shield comes with a lifetime warrant instead of 5 yrs. Does anyone know the difference between the two products?

Shop Type: Paint Correction/Auto Detailer
Shop Name: DJ Mayo
Contact Info: reflections-detailing@hotmail.com 703-296-2449 Cell
Website: <checking with admin to see if I can link>
Work you had done (w/ price): Optimum Opti-Coat and full detail. Everything was stripped down to the clear coat, paint corrected (minor defects), opti-coat applied, and then detailed. Dropped the car off Saturday and got it back Tuesday night.
Stars (1-5, 5 best): *****
Comments:
The coating is still curing but it looks outstanding! The paint acts just like a mirror. I got a few other estimates and was quoted about 20% more than what he quoted so I am satisfied overall. DJ was very professional, responsive phone/email, and definitely knew what he was doing. When I showed up he was working on a older NSX that was pretty marred up. Parts of it had been fixed and you could tell the difference.

You still need to see them in person. Now it's your turn to get yours painted :stirthepot:

This is a long overdue shop review for Bay Custom Tinting in Newport News. His owner is Daren George who drives a 300ZX TT.

He has done the tint on all my cars and did my vinyl roof overlay on the Z. He has also done other members tint job. He has great customer service and the quality of his work is outstanding. A real stand up guy!

He uses Llumar Window Film which is warranty for life and in the 50 states. He will also do overlays and I believe he does business graphics overlay too.

PM me if you need his number and location.
