Road trip.

Well I am into day two of my destination unknown road trip. Working hard to minimize the highway time.

Day one saw me leave Columbia MD after picking up some of those Vibrim FiveFinger shoes (which work great for driving). And not hitting a highway till after Fredrick. Was to hot on 70 after Fredrick so I got off on the senic byway which parallels 70/68. The ride was awesome.

No cops and miles of road where I was the only car on the road. Most of the roads were very twisty... Then I hit WV and the roads got even better. Took me 6 hours total to get to the B&B

Day two was even better. I am now in Erie PA at another B&B after another 7 hours in the Zed. I set the Navi to use fewest highways and let er rip... Tomorrow I am heading to a friends house so it will be highways. Then his cigarette boat on a big lake.

I did pass one red 370 on the senic byway in MD between Cumberland and Hancock, but no other 370s out here.

Sure is fun having no particular destination in mind an just turning west for a couple of days...

Great trip, this is exactly the reason I bought a touring car. To go touring:ughdance:

WOW, I wish I had the time & money to do a trip like that!!

Ok. I decided to come home a day early as some plans fell through at my buddies house.

So the total is 21:15 drive time hours and 957 miles.

First stop was the Town Hill B&B on scenic National Pike NE (otherwise know as 40 out past the 68 / 70 interstate split.)

I then headed on out past Cumberland MD (all on back roads mind you) until I hit WV and then was on WV 7 till my first night in Kingwood WV at a local B&B. This little guy awaited me.

Day two found me headed to Erie PA and another B&B. Had to go have dinner on the lake.

At least there was no umbrella in the drink.

Next day saw me head up into NY and dashing through the countryside on my way to Huntington PA to meet up with a buddy.

I found that the factory NAVI has a liberal definition of Road

That was as bad as it got. The rest of this section looked more like this.

Fortunately those 4 miles were the only stretches of "Road" of that ilk for the drive.

My next challenge was this guy. I know we are not supposed to talk about street racing and "Kill Stories" but sometimes you just have to spit in the Moderator's Eye...

I totally pulled him...

The only hard part was figuring out what gear to do the rolling start in. The 2 horn beeps did not go over well with the horse..

I Made it to Huntington after driving some more incredible roads.

Had time to meet up with my buddy and we had some quality guy time.

We had some other things planned but as it was all last minute it fell through.

I just decided that it was time to hit the road for home. Did the next 100 miles with the top up and the AC on as it was back into the 90s and I was tired of the heat and the sun.

But as I was heading back home and the temps dipped back below 85 the top came back down for the last 40 miles or so.

All in all it was a great getaway. If you have 3 or 4 days and a few hundred bucks I would go for it in a heart beat. The MD, WV, PA, NY area has some spectacular back roads, and fairly cop free as I only saw 1 on all of the back roads that I drove all three days.

This could easily be organized as a nice drive if anyone wants to do it some time. We could even probably fit most of it in for a weekend or long weekend drive as I left on Sunday and am sitting at Home again on Tuesday...

I love trips like this Kirster. I'll be heading up to Michigan end of this month and will be taking the scenic route as well.

This is a motorcycle web site, but has some good info on scenic, sweeper and twisty roads: MotorcycleRoads.US - Your one-stop resource for great motorcycle roads & trips in the US

Might be worth a look.

Looks like fun!

It was a good time. I really had a good time with an M3 for 60 miles on deserted roads...
