Not to rain on your parade but driving with different size wheels on either side of your car is going to DESTROY your diff in no time.

wilsonp 12-03-2010 05:19 PM

if the wheel+tire overall diameters are (essentially) identical, why should that be?

this was my theory also.... buttt lol maybe the weight?

Just from Googling the different wheels issue and this came back:

At low enough speeds, a short distance would be okay. The problem is
that the differential gears aren't generally designed to rotate
continuously and will generate heat when they are. A little bit of
rotation here and there will be handled fine by the oil, but more
continuous rotation will generate heat beyond the ability of the oil
to dissipate, leading to oil breakdown, lubrication failure and
ultimately unlubricated metal-to-metal rubbing.

Take it for what it says.....I'm just copying and pasting what someone else said. :rofl2:

wilsonp 12-03-2010 10:33 PM

You kept out the context - they were talking about different sizes on each side of the axle, about 2.5%.

How close are the 18's and 20's rolling diameter?

(Of course, you're handling has to be compromised - I wouldn't do it.)

they are identical... just took a measuring tape.... both measured to be 25 1/2  but still after reading ex's post imma play it safe... i cant afford a differential :roflpuke2:

simota1 12-14-2010 09:04 AM

as i said i have a couple of mods small mods that im doing this month... i also had one mod that has been bugging the hell outa me.... which is my stillen grounding it.... reason being is that the stupid wires faded out and look orange... so with that said my ocd has finally pushed me into resolving the issue.... i didnt feel like spending another 80 bucks on a grounding kit from stillen so i decided to make my own.... stillens grounding kit was sorta short in some areas and i was not able to manuever the wires the way i liked too.... so with my own grounding kit i made some wires longer... here are some pics... i actually only finished half the grounding kit lol.... i was tired from work today.... info on the grounding kit.... its made outa 4gauge instead of the 8 gauge stillen uses and all the terminals are soldered by me

Do you feel they actually make a meaningful difference? I wrote them off a little while ago since most said they could only really make a noticeable improvement on an A/T car but you have a 6MT and obviously like them enough to make your own.

KaienZ34 12-14-2010 01:44 PM

Don't forget to weigh the whole set, so you can figure about the shipping. Before you go ahead and make any.

shaun66 12-14-2010 02:15 PM

So the STILLEN grounding kit turned orange?
How many miles did you have it on?

KaienZ34 12-14-2010 02:23 PM

It can't have that many miles on it as guam is not that big.

honestly bro... i know it doesnt make a huge difference at all...... the only reason why i even went through the trouble of getting a grounding kit is because of my friend.... so i asked him a while back before i bought the grounding kit is it really important? he said no and yes.... he then explained to me that no because performance wise... it wont do crap LOL.... and yes becuase he said your reassuring the grounding points in a car which IS important... for example one of his customers car would not idle properly and for the love of god they could not understand why? he went crazy for a week... wen he finally figured it out it was a a bad ground... eversince then he always recommended adding grounding kits to the newer cars.... its just a reassurance for me bro... i saw how puny the stock ground wires are.... im more comfortable having a massive wire to insure ill always have good grounding....

only have about 7,000 on them... and my car is almost 2 years old.... it started turning orange like around 6k though..... some parts now are almost pinkish silver with orange faded area surrounding it...

That's what I figured, did it make the engine anymore responsive? You are definitely on the point regarding piece of mind, that can never be underrated!

i actually just finished it today... finished soldering all he terminals and put her back together... i almost LOL cross threaded a bolt because i was lazy to take out the strut lmao.... anyways i dont imagine it will do alot.... but when i did however put on the original grounding kit from stillen it felt like the throttle response improved .. BUT that could be a placebo effect lol.... on another note... i cant take out my car for maybe a week im getting some pieces worked on and i dont wanna drive her around not put together.... :roflpuke2:

simota1 12-20-2010 08:07 AM

UPDATE

so i posted a pic a while back of me painting my rims with plasti dip.... i removed it during the week end... after color matching the handles and side mirrors it did not quite flow as much anymore... i love the color matched handles though  anyways.... so my rims are pretty much polished again... :( another reason why i took it out it started looking like black faded primer LOL i didnt know how to make it semi shiny like how i did with my matte stocks so to me having rims that looks like primer looked really cheap... sigh i really wanna get them powdercoated semi black but the powdercoater guy said he cant of of the plastic fake rivets lined around in a circle.... i guess ill just stick with the polished rims again.... no choice really.... only way to change the color is by painting it automotive paint and im not about to do that cuz it will chip... ill change my rims instead after all the other headaches i have about my car are done and over with.... another news i have for everyone is that im selling my headlights.... or well i have sold em already... pulling them off saturday and swapping headlights with my buddy... i have a new plan with my headlights it wont be blacked out but the reason for this is so the front rear and fog lamp have the same finish... but for the mean time my car feels like it keeps getting lamer and lamer... i just wish id be able to get my damn amuse already.... :(
