Mt Tam I am's Driving Journal

I am going to attempt a driving journal and leave the "What did you do with your Z today" folks alone.

Ex:
Dec 2, 2012: I passed a Prius in the pouring rain on the way home. It has also been windy knocking stuff out of the trees making a slippery slurry. Mid pass while trying to be smooth, I felt the tires spin and the car slip a little; a micro release of the gas brought it back and I completed the pass with the Prius honking at me.

The road opened up after this and that slurry made for uncomfortable driving. Then out from under the trees, and their slurry, another car was visible and if I hurry up I can perhaps pass it as well. I was already hurrying so all I did was upset the cars back end on the turn before I need to commit and pass.

Shucks, I blew it but to my great fortune the car saw me and pulled over. Visibility in the fog was now limited to less than 200 feet so no more passing. because the weather was so poor no bike or tourists were present, so I still managed a better Saturday drive home than on a dry sunny one.

.................................................. ........................................

Dec6 2012. In the wet late at night I passed a car on a double yellow and figured that was the end of it but this fellow in an Accord was mad and tried to catch me. The road was full of tree debris that makes a slick slurry. I was driving at my usual clip but the Accord was trying to catch up and although he was falling behind, I could see his head lights through the trees, never slowing.

I encountered a truck slowly driving and followed. That Accord got closer and just as he came around a turn to catch me I was passing the truck uphill. No more slurry from here on either. I made it home without any more traffic.

I was so stimulated, I could not fall asleep for over an hour.

Is this considered street racing stories?

RE: RACING,

I sure hope not. I am not racing. I am driving the speed I planned on going just that traffic usually interferes. Most of theses stories will be on US HWY 1 where the speed limit is 55 MPH and cars often travel at 25 MPH.

Coming back from my slot car event Saturday I called the little lady to let her know it took 45 minutes to drive in traffic to get to the event and hoped it would be a shorter drive now that it was 9PM and little traffic.

I used cruise control on the freeway to not speed in the dark. coming off the freeway onto US HWY 1 I became less concerned about cops coming up behind unexpectedly. I had done very well in my races earlier in the evening and I was still a bit aggressive. I saw a car up ahead that I planned on passing, but he slowed, stopped and let an SUV from a side street onto the road. I was perturbed. Why on earth would somebody stop to let in a car in when the road is empty? Well it was my least favorite car, a prius, so anything goes. the SUV did take off to his credit but the prius did not, making it even easier to pass. I caught the SUV before the next turn flashed my lights and he just kept going.

I have always wanted to pass a car in this certain spot. AS it is too dangerous to do in the daylight, but at night you can see the headlights coming. I followed the fellow through the 180 degree hair pin turn and as we got to the end of it, I went into the other lane passed the SUV while he flashed his lights, but I was past and never saw him again. Another three uninterrupted miles of twisting turns, I finally encountered another car that became my third and final pass in a five mile drive. i rarely pass here but, I had passed another car here thirty plus years ago the day I bought my 280Z.

I was so pumped up after my twenty minute drive home, I could not sleep till midnight. I surprised my gal by getting home so soon.

The above is why I own a Z car.

I'm sooooo jealous that you have a nice road to drive every day!

I've got 1 turn and need the planets to align for it to be fun. (no left turners from ahead, noone exiting the McDonalds parking lot, noone ahead of me and no lunch truck water on the ground) Only get it about once a week.

I know what you're talking about getting a nice adreanaline pump. My record for Hwy 84 from sunol to livermore (back in the 90s) was 13 or 14 cars passed. Every time I drove it I tried to get at least 10 passes. :happydance: It was probably a good thing that it wasn't my daily commute.

 LOL! I think when I first arrived on this forum there were some posts about a prius and swans "wrestling" "mating" or some such verbiage....along with a Prius driver blocking the park drive to ogle the swans...I was cracking up. Thanks again for the entertaining prose....related to spirited Z motoring:tup: looking forward to the next write up!

While driving home from my moms 80th birthday party I organized last night, I drove behind my gals Camry. I wanted to get out ahead of her but I figured I'd pass her at a new place I just found for the first time the other night. I had told her the story and her eyes rolled. So just as I am getting ready to make my move, and she blocks me by also cutting into the other lane. Wow. She really did listen to me the other day when I regaled her with 370z driving adventures.

I decided I would watch her lines as she drove and she is good. I need to get her to turn a tiny bit later to give her better exit speeds. This is my road and she normally goes the other direction so this makes it better.

Today the roads are wet and I'm on the verge of being late for work. Way off I can see a Porsche or is it one of ours, being held up by a truck. I catch up soon enough, and it is a 996 turbo.

The truck pulls over to let us by and it was wonderful. Apparently he too was late for something as we both picked the same pace to drive. After a mile of twists, he was about six feet further along than I as he must have been a tad later than myself.

When I arrived at my destination and waved good bye, I hoped I'd see the driver again.
