As for your question, all the way off. Generally I am feathering the accelerator anyway, as I do a good bit of coasting. It's a constant on-off battle in real ice. A lot of it is knowing what the car is doing just by feel (like a lot of you guys have a feel on the track). I practiced up to 50 mph in serious ice conditions in a massive parking lot when I lived in Colorado. It was invaluable. |
I was driving in the first real rain of the year coming back from San Francisco at the end of the Golden Gate Bridge is a slight left. Bump in the pavement? Thud/bump sound and My rear end felt like it was in the air and I was forced to make a quick correction and wondered what just happened. Was it a flat? I looked at the TPMS light and it was not on.
I drove slowly got to work and asked a tire guy to look at my tires. He said they were fine. On Saturday I drove 30 miles round trip and was white knuckling it the wole way. I'd ask my gal if she felt that and she thought it was the wind gusting. No such luck. It was like a 15 mile drift until we got to the banquette where Johanes van Overbeek* spoke. On the way home it was more of the same until I hit a huge puddle and hydroplanned like a SOB. When I got home and looked the next day I am showing steel belts. The tires are shot and I have zero tread on the insides due to the negative camber. This has now determined that I will not drive on racing slicks in the future. The tire guy looked at my tires awhile ago and figured they would still be fine. Moral of story: Look for yourself and do not reley upon others. *Johannes van Overbeek From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Johannes van Overbeek (born April 14, 1973) is an American race car driver in the American Le Mans Series. He currently drives an HPD ARX-03b for Extreme Speed Motorsports. Career[edit]Johannes raced go-karts as a child, and began racing sedans at eighteen. Since 1996, he has competed in several racing series in North America, including the Speed World Challenge, the American Le Mans Series, and Grand-Am. In 2007, he won the Porsche Cup, and was ranked as the top non-factory Porsche driver in the world.[1] He finished third in 2008. As of 2013, he has eight wins in the ALMS. He was the only driver in ALMS to finish in the top three of the driver's championship every year from 2004 to 2008. In 2009 he drove for Flying Lizard Motorsports. He switched to Extreme Speed Motorsports for 2010. With codriver Scott Sharp van Overbeek finished 2nd in the 2012 ALMS GT championship in a Ferrari 458 GT2 with 2 wins for ESM. Johannes has competed in four 24 Hours of Le Mans races, finishing sixth in GT2 in 2008, fourth in 2006, and third in 2005. Johannes lives in Oakland, California with his wife and two sons. |
Woah! Glad you're ok
How long was it since the tire guy said they were ok until Saturday? I just purchased a digital tread depth gauge earlier today from Amazon. But then, I don't drive on slicks :icon17: |

Hubby sees it and he gets one in his stocking for Christmas! Lol |

Nice purchase. Lincolns head on a penny may be too old a gauge. |
Quote:
:tiphat: I had a cheap analog gauge but it didn't seem to be accurate at all. Tires are a pretty important safety feature, so I don't like to mess around with them  |
I bought the tires and just replaced the rears. What a difference. I can't floor it and spin the tires in every gear. Hooray. Instead I am propelled forward.
I had dinner plans at my home with my mom and had been held up at work. I left work with the new tires and with damp roads could drive faster. I was late so I kept my speed up when a quarter mile from home saw a slow moving car ahead, closed a bit further and realized that's mom. I thought she was going to pull over but did not. As she was leaving she said she had seen someone coming up behind and said he's in a hurry then' "Hey thats my son, I know where he's going so I don't need to pull over." Cool beans. We had a great evening too. |

Sooooo, Friday. In ohio. Sunny with temps expected in high 50s. Driveway still a bit soft, a bit wet. Screw it. HARRY!! Is coming out to play. Mmmmm. Look at the shine on him. LOL! Hubby and I hop in and head out for some beer and a bit of lunch. Harry feels a bit squirrelly compared to the Civic. Been away from him too long. What? Low tire pressure?! Hubby can you check it? Stop in the road. Yepp. Front right is at 26psi. Dang it. Do we have to go back? :shakes head: nahhh its ok for the short distance. Man, these PSS sure are sticky and the roads sure are full of leftover grit and salt. But god it feels good to be in a car that actually goes when you goose the throttle! :driving::happydance: shifting. Listening to him accelerate. Sunshine on the hood. Other drivers staring. Ahhhh yes....the essence of a Z, MY Z, on the highway. :yum: |
Good going ^^^^^

I forgot about this thread.
I had dinner last night with Mr. O, which was delightful. I showed him my new Z1 rotors which should be on the car soon. On the way home it was still before sun down and with a Cayman in front I turned off the VDC and prepared for a fast run. When the road opened up for us the Cayman pulled over for me and then tried to follow. No dice. All of two unadulterated miles home, were what the Z is all about. |
This morning was so clear on the road that I arrived 5 minutes early and had time to fill the tank.
This shows me how much of our lives are wasted by the slow pokes of the world. |

It is hard to not notice a possible correlation between higher gas prices and fewer cars on the road. I just noticed what I have been paying for gas and have wondered why the road has offered me more 'driving' time lately. Maybe?
I had a brief hold up on the way home yesterday, but got a 90% unobstructed drive home, VDC off. It started with a hot hatch trying to show off for me. Thankfully he went a different direction after a short distance as he was slowing me down a tad. A Maxima held me up half a mile at most, then a clear drive to the garage door. Luck was on my side. Each time I came to an intersection I had right of way, a second or two later I'd of had a car pull in front. Such a sweet ride. |
^^^^ smh. Great for you. It never fails here. :( in Harry. Driving along at a nice clip on a four lane divided highway. Turn off onto the two lane...yepp...Stupid work trucks. Stupid jacked up 80s version Fords. Chevys. Freaking Dodge. Always. Always. Always. Have to get in front of me and Harry. I hate it.
Until I realize...if the drive is slower paced I get to spend more time w Harry. All of a sudden life is better. I love Harry ;)

This morning I got behind first a Volvo then a Porsche GT3, behind me was an Audi RS5. I had great hopes for the GT3 but both Volvo and Porsche turned off left leaving the Audi to chase me, and he did.
The first turn seperated me from him but when third gear ended and forth was needed he was still coming. Up ahead I saw one of our local constables traveling in the same direction. I'm sure I made some weird hand gestures out the window that may have been hard to understand, but when we three arrived at the stop sign I was given the thumbs up. Boredom the rest of the drive to work. |
Omg! 4 lane divided highway. I am on it for about five miles on my daily commute. Some JA always cruising 55, IN THE FAST LANE. Normal lane running 58-59 (wtf)...moving j u s t fast enuff to get a bit ahead of JA...i switch from the fast lane to the normal lane, waiting....
Waiting.... Waiting... There's the sweet spot GO! I zip through the opening and speed away... Lol, the JA figures it out and gets over. Smh. I would never try this in the Civic. I love Harry! :driving: |

Started today with getting caught in road work. Nearly 2 minutes of waiting before the first car came up behind. All the cars ahead turned another direction leaving me a road without traffic.
The car behind me started to accelerate with me but when I hit a turn at 60 and was still accelerating, the car backed off, never to be seen again today. The entire drive to work was stellar. The only time I almost slowed down was for the UPS truck that signaled and turned off. I thought "This drive just keeps getting better." Another mile away I encountered a truck and had already driven past all expectations of clear road. I am blessed in more ways than one. |
Passing other cars in my Z, on a two lane with few passing zones, is pure bliss.
I love Harry. |

I had my rotors and pads installed yesterday. I need a chance to tell if their is a difference. The "butt dyno" seemed to think yes but I was going too slow (Thanks Mr. Hybrid) to really know.
The SS brake lines and fluid will be today. |
I 'd like to check out my new set up but every where I go I am stuck behind another.
Yesterday a Prius held me up until I was a couple hundred yards from home. I decided to drive beyond home and just drive until I got stuck again. I did get a couple miles further until I made a U turn home. My steering feels lighter but I can not help but think everything is in my head. |

I just bought these Forged LMZ5 NISMO S-Tune wheels for $300. I plan to use them for the track next month. Monday I will be at Thunderhill Raceway. Still the old 3 mile track but soon to be five miles. |
Thunderhill came and went. I will write a bit more about it, but I am behind elsewhere in life with Monday off work.

After 10 minutes the tires lost something so the grip felt like cottage cheese. It was good but a tad less. I improperly bedded my brakes so I had chatter initially and was unhappy with my new set up. I thought about leaving but decided to just tough it out and boy am I glad I did. Once they were hot again they seemed to be nearly normal and chattered when cold. The high speed slow down 120 - 130 to 80 MPH upset the car a bit, losing confidence, but it got me around the track in spite. I was passed so many times. The Airiel Atom while so fast it was hard to keep track of in the rear view mirror. He was a spot on the back straight, two turns later I saw him way back and was going to give a point by when he was missing, a moment later he was passing on the other side. If he seemed fast, the RX7 with the LS7 is faster still. While flat out on my way to 130 MPH the Mazda went by like I had lifted off the gas. He blew something within a few turns and threw oil all over a Lotus and blue smoke billowed out the back as he drove off line. This is the only time I have ever passed this car with the exception of when it was broken down on the track at Laguna Seca. One heck of a car when it runs. It turned a 1:33 there. Faster than a ZR1 in Randy Pobst's hands! I had a consistant day but I was a second short from beating my last, best time here in October. The weather had been perfect up until mid afternoon. then sprinkles on one end of the track and dry on the other. For the last run of the day, they include the race team members at the back. It suddenly started pouring down rain where sitting waiting for the green flag. This is the best I did all day, street tires help now. I had a lot of bugs on my windshield that I'd collected throughout the day but had tree sap from home too. This got on my wipers leaving a blurry streak on each wiper return. After 15 minutes, I was leading and pitted myself to avoid calamity. I just could not see well plus I was pushing too hard to catch cars that had passed me all day. Drop the ego and get off the track. Thunderhill 5/5/14 #4 - YouTube Thunderhill Heavy Rain #5 - YouTube |
So matter of fact. I am always a bundle of nerves when autocrossing.
The one time I was on a track it was raining and horrible. Potenzas sucked in good weather. You're something though. Always putting yourself out there. If i dont get some rest before this weekend (my first auto-x of the season) i will be worthless and grumpy. |
Tam... Dumb question. Why on earth have you not moved up to r-comps of some sort? Best upgrade I did was changing out to my square Proxes RA1 setup.
And I got one session on them before I sold the car :-p Sent from my Nexus 5 |
