been a bit of time, but Black Friday buys update
Frozen Rotors Slotted front and rear rotors Hood vent kit https://trackspecmotorsports.com/sho...r-vent-kit-112 Front Splitter https://www.fsperformanceengineering...32842118791214 Side Skirts https://www.fsperformanceengineering...21011248218171 I was looking at maybe dive plates/canards and a new short shifter, but the budget is not there. So now its time to start buying the expendable items for next year. Working on having everything by beginning of March for the rebuild to start. :ughdance: |
Its officially time to start on the Z.
First Track event will be April 15th. And we all know how fast time goes. So will be posting and pictures as I go through all the stuff to do. Probably with lots of questions and educating too. Been a bit funny oh how wishy - washy I have been. Do I continue or do I quit. Right now continuing the journey for tracking this year. |
I think you made the right choice, keep it going :)

Today, started by cleaning up the garage, just have to make more room and get ready of junk.
Also unpacked my side skirt extensions and front splitter from FS Performance engineering its a start... more to do tomorrow.. |
Well, yesterday I did more getting the garage in order...
Today I finished off the air filters, will reinstall this week. I also figured out how to check my front brake pads, by starting to do a brake job but not removing the brakes. I did this because I need to know if I should replace the brakes. To my surprise I was able to do this. (note I am mechanical ineptitude, I actually think I might be able to do a brake job now.) Well what I found out, that the front brake pads are at 8mm, new they were 10 mm. So after about 8 hours of tracking, I only used 2mm. So I will not have to replace the pads for now. But now after every track event I will check and take measurements. Taking more measurements this year. To get a better idea of wear and tear. |
Well nothing got done on the Z yesterday, mainly the GF got back in town.
But part of prepping for tracking, is to start race sims again. My son and I played 2 1/2 hours last night, just general fun stuff. But since I hope to do AMP / Road Atlanta for sure and maybe VIR and another. Need to start practicing at these tracks too. |
almost a month, funny how life just keeps moving along....
if you haven't heard. I had a problem with AAA working on my car. It wasn't the people and it wasn't the labor cost. It was the price on parts, Serpentine belt was 100 and the Belt Tensioner Assembly was 437. Now I told them it was not right, but after 4 months of being nice, 🙂 finally got a refund of 282 dollars on the parts. So now have to start working on the Z |
Things are moving forward, picking up some odd and end parts for fixes on the Z. Went to my local Nissan dealership and discover that the president of the Miata club I belong to works there. He gave me 20% discount. Any little bit helps.
Also all the fluids have shown up, so that part is ready. Just need to get everything by 3/20, then its in the shop to get ready for track days |
Ok, Been pricing a new transmission going to be between 2400 and 2500 does not matter from where Nissan or Z1, still searching.
Next need some ideas on new tires, been looking not sure I want to stay with the Falken RT660, I know I will need another set this year. Current setup is the following: Tires -Falken AZENIS RT660 - 275/35 18 Wheels - ENKEI RPF1 18X10.5 +15 (Square setup) Now from chatting with all of you in the past, tire maybe a bit too small. Should probably should be 295/305 35/40 for the wheels I have. Wondering brands sizes. Places to find them at, cost etc. Thanks for the help :driving::tiphat: |

How about some scrubbed racing slicks for way cheaper than a set of 200TWs? https://usedracingtires.com/collections/in-stock …yes I know this is unrealistic if you’re not trailering to the track… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

why don't you trailer the tires?

U mean why doesn’t he have a mini tire trailer on the Z? I’ve thought about making my own hitch receiver since I don’t see anyone making one for our cars anymore. edit: actually looks like there is one for the 350z. I wonder if the rear bumper bar is similar enough in shape/location to the 370z to make that work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Or another alternative.. befriends some of the track rats whom are near by where you live, go to the same events, trailer their cars and use them for tire transport!
|
All above too much work, and guess its cheaper to buy tires
old man excuse and I am an old man |
good day yesterday, in getting the Z ready to go to the shop and on the road
so getting there, slow but sure :happydance: |
Z is already, to go and play, or at least its first slow drive
- front inner fenders all installed - nose is back on - front wheels back on - cabin filter installed - fuse was ok for the windshield washer pump :( another day for that :happydance: |

Tires decision has been made
Kumho ECSTA V730 Tires 275/35/18 And it came down to price 1000 vs 1800 for others. Going to have them heat treated too, see if that make a difference. |

$216/ea on tire rack. That’s a screaming deal. Even cheaper than the federal 595rs-pros. Curious to see how those stand up to the RT660. I expect they’d be a slower tire but last longer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

First Track event of this year at AMP with Atlanta Driving Society (47 laps were done)
Car has been corner balance, new transmission and clutch, different alignment. It felt good, but My best was only 1.39.86 off my personal Best by 3.47 seconds. Why I do not know. :( The track was green since it had rained the past two days. Everyone was saying tires were not gripping. Or simply that I am a year older I am slower :). Fun yes, learning still. Did find out that turns 9-11 have a lot of compression on the car, which resulted in some tire rub. (time to roll the front fenders) New setup felt good, tire wear was even across all 4 tires. Starting pressure for now on will be Front 32 / Rear 29, which will get me to front 36/ Rear 34. Also simply learn to relax and drive and have fun. Also since it has been a while, forgot to get gas on my lunch hour to make sure I finished the day. Just funny with a 19 gallon tank, you need to get gas to finish the day. Car was getting 8 mpg, when your on it, it eats Enjoy |
Yesterday, feeling the effects of being 70, spent yesterday doing a post track inspection on the brakes and tires. Good news, is tires wore evenly, (YES), brake pad wear was good about 1 mm. There at 7mm have a few hours left in them. Car look over all good from the track days.
I actually did a 20 minute session on 4/19 Wednesday Night. turned a 1.39.64 a bit better Here is the video No more track until May 31st, so it will be sim practice time |
Got the Type-R back from the Shop
Brakes / brake flush / coolant change to ICE COOL / steel brake lines / lowering springs. so its all track ready too.. Now just need to get the necessary Garmin Catalyst parts to make it easy to go from one car to another.... All is good |
ok, its quiet time, till the end of the month.
then 7 events in 6 weeks, because I can still get it done... Oh to make it interesting, it will be done in the following cars. -- 370z of course -- 2018 Honda Civic Type-R -- 2015 Porsche Cayman PDK GTS at the following tracks -- Atlanta Motorsport Park -- Road Atlanta -- Barber Motorsport Park noted: in the schedule Here is the schedule for the year **Event** | **Car** | **Date** | Track ------- | -------- | -------- | -------------- Atlanta Driving society | 370Z | 15-Apr | Atlanta Motorsport Park - done SCCA Track Night | 370Z | 19-Apr | Atlanta Motorsport Park - done SCCA Track Night | 370Z | 31-May | Road Atlanta SCCA Track Night | type R | 7-Jun | Atlanta Motorsport Park Jzilla + GridLife | type R | 10-Jun | Barber Motorsport Park SCCA Track Night RA | type R | 23-Jun | Road Atlanta Atlanta Driving society | Cayman GTS | 26-Jun | Road Atlanta Atlanta Driving society | 370Z | 8-Jul | Atlanta Motorsport Park SCCA Track Night | 370Z | 12-Jul | Atlanta Motorsport Park Atlanta Driving society | 370Z | 6-Aug | Atlanta Motorsport Park SCCA Track Night | 370Z | 16-Aug | Atlanta Motorsport Park Mid-Ohio Lapping Day | Type R | 14-Oct | Mid-Ohio :driving: |

New set of tires for sometime this year...
275/35/18 KUMHO ECSTA V730 they have been heat treated also... not sure when they will go on -- Falken's are about half gone.. In Grassroots Motorsport, they compared very favorable to the Falkens, but were 600 dollars cheaper at the time. So I figure I give them a try... Attachment 152111 :driving: |

ok, another sim session with my sim coach, he is pleased I am pleased seems, its all now down to the finer points. Working on Road Atlanta mainly, since I have 3 events there in 4 weeks with 3 different cars... first will be the Z, followed by the type-R, followed by the cayman gts. talk about variety
|
Put on the Track tires, for Wednesday, which will be at Road Atlanta.
shined it up too. Now just have to do more practice and view videos'. This is the first Road Atlanta event of three in the next 30 days in 3 different cars :) |
things went well at Road Atlanta improved my time by about 1.5, down to 1.49.44
Had fun playing following a porsche cayman, after I was ahead of him and did an opps... but it was fun... felt good being on the track again |
take away from post track inspection, brake pads need to be replaces all are about 6mm. That is down from 8mm at the start of the year, with 76 laps done this year.
Rotors are good, no cracks, color changes. Tires depth is about 5mm, down from 6mm, fronts look good even wear, back rear insides are showing wear. Rims look good back and front. One Rim has a silver circle, looks like I had a little rock get caught. So I am pleased. Have to watch the tires, I have 3 more events in the Z this year. 2 HPDE Days and one SCCA Track night left. so about 7-9 hours of track time. Would like the tires to last, but I do have another set ready I will probably replace the brake pads with the same type pads. I have set that was retired too early.. The front pads have 10mm on them and the rear have 8mm. Which I think will be good to finish the year. Road Atlanta seemed to be a bit harder on the brakes then is Atlanta Motorsport Park. All the rest of the track days are at Atlanta Motorsport park. So I think I can finish with the pads I am planning on using More to come, but all is good :driving::tiphat: |
