Heat Shielding

I bought a 36 X 46 inch piece of heat shielding from PEP-BOYS. I have seen some other types and used other types on race trucks. I don't have the money for all that.

So I laid it out and cut manageable strips. I think it came out okay. When I came home last week i could have scrambled eggs on my intakes. No matter what the volume of air flow is, it has to effect the air temperature going into the engine. Especially with a Gen 3 intake, tubes are supper long.

I have seen discussions on the forum about doing this or Not to do this. Make your own call. It may do nothing for me, don't really have a way yet to measure air temps but it looks cool. Just like the370Z.com sticker... :icon17:

Update

I installed my ART test pipes this morning.. Awesome service, great fit. To avoid gasket blow outs I used the High Temp Copper Gasket material. We used it on race trucks so I think it should work on these. The copper hardens around the gaskets and seals up all imperfections on the flanges..

Sounds like a deeper growl, is quieter at idle and at speed. I do feel more torque when I'm around 4,5 RPM.:driving: Nice set up.

I did find out my car is running really rich.. I wouldn't be surprised to find some fowled plugs. Will try to fix this.. Thanks to the UP Rev I got from FlashBurn i think I can do it.. Will get some dyno time after I finish one more mod.. :stirthepot:

I assume you are seeing it run rich without a tune or only after the ART pipes? My AFR levels were fine with the tune I sent you.

I added about 25 pounds of my GTMAT covering the floors, running boards, pillars, trunk. FlashBurn said in his write up he added about the same. The material he used was way thicker and did not seem user friendly plus he added the matting. All in all I don't think the weight will inhibit forced induction install so I am happy with it..

Thanks for posting the weight added, had some details but was curious how much weight is added with doing a full truck wrap with sound dampening. Do you have any experience with GTMAT v other products like Dynamat and such? Weight, noise reduction, etc.

I haven't put the tune you sent on it yet. Carbon build up on sensors happens anyways over time. It was real thick indicating running rich may have been from earlier in its life. I don't smell fuel, but there is an odor other than fuel (Strong).
After the test pipes were put on its still running good, better gas mileage, quieter, god mid range torque (noticeable). Mileage may be from cleaning off the sensors. Last mod before I dyno will be under drive pulley. Then I'll data log and see whats what then dyno it.

Brother,
I would have bought your track rims and tires, I wish I new. I just saw the post this morning. I was trying to figure out pricing for the wheel spacers if these wheels don't sell this weekend.

flashburn 07-19-2012 08:21 AM

Hmm, I dunno, I cleaned the MAF sensors not too long before I sold it.

Update

Got my new shoes today. Man pulling those extended spacer studs is a pain in this heat.. But worth it.. I had them use the 40th Gun Metal but powered coated and glossed. Looks good, will look better and drive better with Spec-R Swift springs. :happydance: I tell you what, If your in Tampa, Absolute Automotive Brandon is the place to use for you mods. They have let me use a lift twice with no charge to do my work.. I have had 2 spinal surgeries so I can't do a lot of stuff anymore. They really help you out..

Nice. Looks like a completely different car!

flashburn 07-20-2012 07:37 AM

Why the heck did you go with the V12's? Huge downgrade from the DW's. Super soft sidewall, and pretty poor tire wear. They also don't have as much grip either.
