Yeah that will come if this vacuum can works as well as I hope!

Strange, seems newer cars dont get ice mod, but I do have the ABS grabbing my calipers when pulling a lot of G's..
I will remove disconnect the yaw sensor too. My rear camber arm failed at the back of Phil's hill so my car is down at the moment...

Well I think we've boiled it down to this. The more you get ice mode, the more it wears out your ABS pump. The more worn out your ABS pump is, the more likely you are to trigger ice mode again. So I don't think its the age of the car so much as it is how many times you've experienced ice mode. I started tracking my Z in early 2009 and didn't hit ice mode until mid-2010 after probably 10 track weekends. Then after I started hitting it, it just kept getting more and more easily triggered. Completely goes along with the above theory of the worn out pump. And because mine is so bad, I am iffy on whether or not this vacuum canister will help enough.

If you haven't hit it yet, then I would highly recommend getting the vacuum canister so you better your chances of never hitting it.

So I FINALLY got off my *** and tested the vacuum canister back to back today. Made sure I found a spot where I could safely replicate track driving as much as I could then proceeded to get my car to hit ice mode without the vacuum canister hooked up. Hooked up the vacuum canister, drove around a bit and re-created my first test. I am bummed to report that the vacuum canister had ZERO effect on my ice mode. It was still just as easy to trigger as it was without the canister hooked up. I think my ABS pump is either too far gone or perhaps its not as much of a fix as we all hoped. I really thought it would at least help my situation and make it harder to trigger, but that was not the case. Back to square one. Anyone have any thoughts/theories?

well that sucks ... was hoping your results were on the good side of things.

Your car must of been made on a Monday.

You and me both. I was really excited at the possibility of getting back out to the track soon! Now back to debating whether I should save up a few grand and do a full dual master brake setup and bypass ABS or get rid of the 370Z and get something else. Leaning toward the later.

Or a Friday at 4:30pm, just before a holiday weekend. Then finished first thing Tuesday morning after said holiday weekend.

Interesting as it completely cured my car but I'm just getting rid of abs altogether. Pulling all abs systems and now running proportioning valve

cossie1600 03-20-2013 11:32 PM

Mike,

I don't know if I buy into your theory of the pumping wearing out either. I used to get ice mode all the time with my aggressive brake pads. I have a few more track days on the car as you, but i also did a lot of autox with ice mode too. I made the switch to a softer compound and the problem was mostly gone. Of course now i am dealing with a soft pedal as I am overheating the pads...

More i think about it, more I hate the car

M.Bonanni 03-21-2013 11:07 AM

Yeah its frustrating as hell and I just simply don't know what I want to do. On one hand, if you got rid of ABS, took care of fuel starvation, and have a good oil cooler the 370Z would be an awesome track car that you could run all day. It would be quick and reliable. On the other hand, the ABS is a big hang-up. Once you ditch it, run all new brake lines, get a new pedal box, etc. its not easy or cheap to put back to stock I wanted to sell it one day. I basically have to decide if I want to sell it now or make a commitment to keep it for a LONG time and eventually have it be a dedicated track car. Neither choice I am 100% thrilled with.

cossie1600 03-21-2013 11:38 AM

I have the same dilemma. But then I can't buy same performance for the same price. I did the go faster car with the c6. Did the go slow thing to save money with the rx8. Ended up back in a z

M.Bonanni 03-21-2013 03:48 PM

Yeah that's my major dilemma as well. Mine is an '09 with 47k miles on it. There's just nothing else out there that I would rather have for what my Z is worth. I would have to come out of pocket a few grand to get something I would view as comparable in speed/looks/aftermarket support/mileage/condition as my Z. 2006-2008 BMW M Coupe (Z4 body style) is probably #1 on the list. Basically an E46 M3 with a different body that I think is better looking, plus it's a tad lighter. That car also has its own problems on the track though, but there are known fixes/preventative measures.

I almost pulled the trigger on a used Z06 from the Bondurant school. They wanted $12K after 1 year of track abuse.

That could be an awesome deal or a crappy deal haha. The thing I don't like about the Z06 is the aluminum frame. Makes it a royal pain in the *** to do a roll cage since you can't weld the steel cage to the aluminum frame. You have to sleeve it through the frame, cap it on both sides, bolt on any gusseting, etc. It can be done by the right cage builder, but it wont be cheap. Plus you can make plenty of NA power with the LS2/LS3 anyway and you can buy Z06 or ZR1 front/rear fenders that bolt right on for extra tire clearance. The only big advantage to the Z06 is that it already comes with a halfway decent dry sump system. Long story short, for the price difference you normally get between the regular C6 and the Z06 you can probably build a better standard model for the same amount of money as buying the stock Z06.
