if it was the judged show, its probably because the ZCCA uses really different judging standards. Its a points system, and cleanliness and crap like that is more important than overall aesthetics

Kev, not saying your car is dirty, just that they don't look at the same stuff most sane people do.

Saw your car at the show Friday. Looked great. Still cant figure out how you go third.

Actually I placed second. The first place Nismo belonged to Chris Karl. He had intakes and a shift knob on his car.
He actually made up the judging criteria, so he knew just where to clean. I'm guessing that's why he won!! To me that's a confict of interest, but what do I know.
(It was funny how he left the pic of my car out during the slide show announcements at the banquet! He knew the crowd would not agree.)
I have a pic of that!!

Also, my car was spotless and the judges were knit picking to the extreme!

I've judged VW/Audi shows 6 years in a row that were three times as large so I have some experience.
One major part of judging a "Modified" class is how the vehicle was modified and how it all ties together. The guys that were judging admitted that their cars were stock!! They shouldn't have been judges. It's over and Z Nationals is coming up soon!! That is a real show and I can't wait!!

I too was perplexed by the whole thing. I figured the best I'd do was maybe third if I was lucky in Street Modified. Then found out I took first in stock (I'm considered stock, really?) in addition to People's Choice for 370Zs. When I didn't see Kevin in first I just said, "WTF?". Very odd to me but I have little experience in these sanctioned things. I guess I'll wait to see the official tally to see just what transpired. I too am looking forward to Z Nationals!

Your Z looks sick Kevin, definitely a lot of great ideas in here that I can use on my own! Definitely love how you painted the sunline kit in the front.

What is it with the judges at these Z conventions, they seem to be completely retarded. First, kirkster gets 2nd place in stock class at ZDayZ with his supercharged Z and now Jon gets first place with his Z. I have seen it in person and nothing about it says stock at all :icon17:

Ive entered 2 ZCCA car shows in the past and I will never make that mistake again due to a lot of the same BS that happened to you. You should have won your class, your car is beautiful.

Thanks a bunch!! I drive mine just about every day also!! There should be consideration of year and accumulated mileage!! There were alot of trailer queens there too. So far Z Nationals is the best z event to me!! I may venture to Zdayz next year though!! ;)

Thanks for the Props!! I just think the judges are out of their element with modded/ newer vehicles with regards to ZCCA. It's unfortunate, they are alienating themselves from us 370Z guys!!
I also think some folks should step down...

You might want to check out Branson Z Fest sometime if it isn't too far, a lot of great roads and tons of entertainment.

I want to make it to both Zdayz and Nationals.

Mike 07-25-2011 06:32 PM

Zdayz was people's choice, so there were no 'judges' per se, or you could say every entrant was a judge

Sounds like a show I went to years ago at a church funtion. Most of the members from the church won. Couple of members one two awards for the same car. :icon14: Could of spread the wealth.

There were only 3 cars in the Street Modified category. I was certain that Kevin would win that. I got 3rd place as I expected once I heard the nismo belonged to one of the planners of ZCON. I figured there was no way they would justify Kevin not winning. They managed to do that very easily.

Truthfully, that show was not very welcoming to the 370Z community. Most of the judges had no ideas of the mods for our cars and what the heck they were judging. That's why a nismo with a shift knob and intakes won. IMO in order to qualify for street modified you should at least have custom wheels and exhaust on your vehicle.

The experience at ZCON was insulting to the guys on this forum who spend money on their car, making them look nice for shows, and hoping people will appreciate them.

ZCON was a Datsun show. Kevin you WON that class hands down!!!

Thanks James! You noticed how I wasn't to surprised!!
Our two cars were the only ones that really showed the potential of the 370Z body!

I never really thought gold looked good with a silver/grey shade....youv changed my mind. I think it all has to do with the rim spokes.
