Z1804's Journal -- Pictures of my Short Block Replacement Coming Soon!!!

I've had my 370Z since April of this year and have enjoyed every second of driving this vehicle. After dropping off my car at the dealership today to get a new short block I've decided to start a journal. It's a little frustrating having to experience this with a new vehicle, but I figured I would just use it as another chapter of my Z Ownership. I'm going to see if the dealership can take some pictures of the new short block install.

Below is a list of the mods that I've completed after telling myself that I would drive the car stock for an entire year before changing anything. That statement was true for an entire 6 weeks:tup:. If you're a true car guy you know that we lie to ourselves about this all of the time.

Below is a list of my current mods in order of install:
  1. JDM Fairlady Z Reverse Fog Light
  2. JDM Fairlady Z Emblem
  3. Password JDM Balanced Shift Knob
  4. AMS Adjustable Short Shifter
  5. Stillen G3 Intake
  6. R35 GT-R Red Ignition Start Button
  7. Boombop Shop CBE
  8. Work Varianza T1S Wheels
  9. Hankook V12 Evo -- 305/25/20 & 255/30/20
  10. H&R Lowering Springs
  11. JDM Tail Lights
  12. SPC Rear Camber Arms

Here are some pictures of my mods:

Wheels, Tire, Lowering Springs and Camber

My wheels and tires are waiting to be installed at Z1 once the dealer is done replacing my short block. I hope to pick up the car on Friday and have wheels, springs, and camber installed on Saturday.

Since I dropped the car off today, I have no idea how they plan to complete all of the work in 3 days. They said I should be ready, so I'm taking their word for it. Pictures will be posted on parts are installed.

Installation Coming Soon

I thought you knew Mike. I had an oil consumption issue. Had an oil consumption test done at Gwinnett. Burned approximately 1.25 qts of oil in 1500 miles. That's excessive, so my car is there now getting a new short block.

Mike 09-15-2010 07:14 AM

ok, had to do that with my 350 too.

How did your 350 run afterwards? I hope after they do that my car is good for the next X amount of years.

It is recommended that you follow the break-in procedure to prevent the OC issue.... is what I heard.

Yes, the tech told me that before he even started working on my car. Nothing about 4000 RPM for the first 1,000-1,200 miles. I'll probably go to 2,000 just to be cautious.

It ran fine. The supercharger belts never quite lined up right after I reinstalled it, but other than that, the engine was fine.

Cool. Mike, how long did the install take and which dealership did it? They're doing mine in 3 days. They've dedicated a guy to it for the next 3 days.

I brought it to a friends dealership in Savannah and they had it a week or so, but a lot of that time was waiting for Nissan to approve the new engine.

I'm a little bummed right now. I just found out that my car is not going to be ready my tomorrow. I was supposed to pick it up from the dealer tomorrow and have the wheels, springs, and camber done on Saturday.

The dealer told me that when in order to replace the short block you have to take off the VVEL actuator and VVEL position sensor. Once those have been removed they cannot be re-used. That's what they said anyway. So now, we're waiting for those parts to come in. I hope that it gets done in time for Z Nationals next weekend.

Extremely disappointed......

Z1804 09-16-2010 06:01 PM

This is BS

I don't even know where to begin. I just got off the phone with the dealership and they told me that my car will NOT be ready for Z Nationals. I'm so pissed right now that I can't even think. How do you go from the car being ready by tomorrow to it not making it for Z Nationals?

I was told that the block that arrived had a hairline crack so they have to send out for another short block. I have wheels and tires, springs, and cambers collecting dust.

I should have just waited until after the show to take it to get the work done.

daisuke149 09-16-2010 06:23 PM

ask them if they started the work
if not drop it off after znationals
or have them put it back together
and that you'll bring it back

Z1804 09-18-2010 07:46 PM

I went by the dealer yesterday to see my car. Being the lucky guy that I am, the block that Nissan Corporate sent to them had a chipped off piece. Dealership had to order another block delaying my completion to Wednesday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If they finished it on Wednesday, my car will be ready for Z Nationals.
