man you went all crazy with polishing great job waiting for installed pictures

christian370z 07-08-2011 11:28 AM

Thanks docaam, I figured I might as well try to make it perfect before it goes on the car. I love polishing, I rarely need to polish the Z since my wash routine is to the point where I don't get any marring/swirls so I take every opportunity I get to polish stuff haha.

chuckd05 07-08-2011 12:52 PM

Christian if you are ever in NY bring your stuff, you can polish my car.... At 20k and some lazy wash habbits ( going to car wash ) my car can use a nice correction... nothing crazy but could use some work...

I was going to buy a porter cable and stuff products and try to learn on my own but not sure if thats a good idea or not

I would definitely help you out if I still lived in Greenwich, I have given a bunch of "tuition" details to friends on other forums before and every single person says "Wow, that was so easy. I can't believe I didn't try this before!"

Trust me, get a solid kit of one medium polish, one finishing polish, a Porter Cable, an assortment of pads, a whole lot of microfiber towels, a good sealant and that is almost everything you need. Not only do you learn how to properly polish your paint, but it will cost the same or less than paying someone to detail and you will do a better job (plus you will have all the stuff to polish as needed).

PM me if you want some recommendations on products and stuff. :tiphat:

Flushnismo 07-10-2011 01:18 PM

I always love your write-ups and pictures. Awesome job

christian370z 07-10-2011 09:29 PM

Thanks Flush! I don't have the craziest build ever but I try to detail as much as I can about most of the mods if I can. Speaking of which, I should have a bunch of goodies coming from Carbon Signal in the coming weeks. :)

Carbon Fiber Spoiler Installed

Well, third time is the charm. After an appointment mistake and a failed install attempt yesterday, I finally have my CF spoiler installed! While I liked the clean look of the spoiler-less hatch, it has always looked like it was missing something. At some angles, it looks great but other angles look awkward at times which the spoiler has filled and more.

Fitment: I bought the spoiler from the370zstore, it was in ok shape but had tons of marring and had some haze which some polishing got rid of. It fits the hatch very well with no waves or fitment issues, however both ends do not stay completely flush with the downward curve of the sides of the hatch. The top leading edge stays perfectly flush with the hatch, however.

Looks: I love it. Carbon fiber matches platinum graphite so well, the lighter parts of the weave matching the paint color almost exactly. I am very happy I went for carbon fiber over a paint matched OEM spoiler.

I tried to take pictures of the car from a number of angles and lighting conditions as I know some people are interested in this particular wing. Anyways, enjoy the pictures!

Now to find a one piece EVO-R carbon fiber splitter. :)

Boost_lee 07-13-2011 05:01 PM

Well done sir

christian370z 07-13-2011 06:55 PM

Thanks man, now I need to find a carbon front splitter haha. I was thinking the ING one or the EVO-R carbon splitter, but I wish there were some other options that are more subtle.

Trips 07-13-2011 09:09 PM

Looks good Chris, Now lets see more cf parts later on :)

I figured I would post up a quick take off video I shot of the Z and my friend's Saab c900 plus some parking garage throttle blips towards the end. God I love my car!

Thanks guys!

christian370z 07-30-2011 04:46 PM

Just a couple new shots from Cars and Coffee this morning, along with a video. For now, I am waiting on my interior carbon fiber kit and am on the lookout for an ING carbon fiber front lip or a carbon fiber EVO-R lip to round out my exterior mods for now. :)

Car looked naked before w/o rear spoiler. Noice...coming along well. IMO it needs some balancing out with more c/f or black-out. For example the the fangs and rear fog light. C/F lip will work.

Is it the angle of the photo, the front looks high. Ahhhh....you are missing the oem spoiler that should have came with the car, or you took it off, which is it?

Boost_lee 07-31-2011 01:35 PM

^^ Car is a non-sport so he didn't have the chin spoiler

nice vid! sounds great. Btw, love the VW minibus in the vid :)

He needs something there because it has the "the gasser look". A lip should take care of it.

Christian, I have admired most your mods to date. The rear spoiler does need something to offset or balance the rear end. Like I said before, black out the rear difuser. I like the clean look with tasteful mods which you have done so far.

Thanks for answering Zforce! I love the VW Bus, especially the T1 split window. I detailed one last summer, it was a camper bus and was a split window with what looked like dish clothes as curtains haha.

Here's the link if you want to check it out:

Absolutely, I agree with you 100 percent. That is why I have been on the lookout for a carbon fiber front splitter, but I feel like it is not a financially wise decision for me at this point until I save up some extra cash. However, I am looking for an EVO-R carbon fiber splitter or a used ING CF splitter.

I just did a quick photoshop of the painted rear lower valence, what do you think?

http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/u...0707_2668p.jpg

ZForce 07-31-2011 09:25 PM

Now that is what I am talking about. I am all over this. Since I already have the oem painted PG rear spoiler, I would probably go with a c/f overlay. I have not priced out the one you picked up from Motorsport Auto, but I believe overlays are looking very good these days. What do you think?

Edit...ouch $400 for the c/f spoiler http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/370z02/30-7299

Q: Would the Evo or Ing splitter scrape with our currect 1.3" drop with Swift springs?

Boost_lee 07-31-2011 09:35 PM

Awesome VW bus in the link!

I like the rear overlay also

ZForce 07-31-2011 09:55 PM

Man I retract my post above about c/f overlay. I just looked at EVO website and saw all of the c/f for the front fangs + upper section and the rear difuser. I am impressed they have come out with some great quality c/f products since I first watched the EVO R lip thread develope on this forum. And the pricing is not that bad.

I was worried about the contrast with my current blacked out fangs + upper section and the EVO-R II c/f center piece as to how it would contrast against black. It might still look good until I can spring for the c/f fangs + upper section.

What were you thinking of going with? Or were you going to leave the fangs painted oem PG?

Latest Addition

I had always though that the front of the base Z looked a bit off, like something was missing. After seeing some pictures of the INGS+1 front lip, it became my favorite lip out there. It is on the subtler side, and it doesn't protrude in front of the car which is exactly what I wanted.

I struck a deal with deal with Mike (dirTy_shoez), polished it up and installed it.

Fitment: it is dead on. It is a very easy installation process where you bolt it up to two bolts that hold those plastic flaps that are in front of the wheels on. Then you use some 3M VHB tape along the top of the lip, bolt it on then press it onto the bumper so that the tape adheres.

Looks: love it. As I mentioned earlier, I chose this lip because it was clean and on the conservative side. It also flows perfectly with the carbon fiber sport package spoiler I also recently installed and gives the front of the car much more attitude while make the car look visually lower.

Anyway, here are some pictures I took earlier today. Let me know why you think!

Thanks Trips, you should definitely go for it! The Stillen lip would match your matte black trim nicely too. :)

Thanks man! I'm thinking about it, I have played around in Photoshop to see how it would look and it does look good. I don't know what else I should do to the exterior right now though haha.

I think that's good enough, unless you want to get sideskirts, and/or gloss black roof overlay :)

Good point, if you aren't sure what to do you should probably not do anything. My carbon fiber interior parts are shipping soon so those will be the next thing to go on. :)
