Took a few pictures today

So, there's not a lot to write about. I bought the car bone stock from a Ford dealership last February. There are no power mods (unless K&N drop-in filters fall into that category), and there are no set plans to add any. Same goes for suspension. There may be drilled rotors and beefier tires in the future when what's on the car need replacing, but at 5k miles a year, it'll be awhile.

Here's my "build" list:

OEM Sport front air deflector
K&N drop in filters
OEM-style Sport decklid spoiler
GT-R start button swap
Kenwood rearview camera (using Nissan integrated software)
OEM illuminated 'Z' door sill protectors
5500k LED lighting: interior, license plate, reverse lights
OEM red rear fog "reflector"
Ichiba wheel spacers (15mm F, 20mm R)
Wheel locks

For kicks, I also did a simple muffler delete. I couldn't see spending the money on a true axle-back exhaust, but she sounds nice. For Roadster owners, I'm happy to tell you that there is very little drone like some of the coupe owners have. For what it's worth.

Simple and clean. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I hope it helps provide some ideas for the new owners looking to add a little flair to their ride.

Congratulations that is one beautiful Roadster Z you have there. Pearl white was always a magnificent looking exterior color on the Z a specially when clean. Upgrading your rotors and brake pads will make a difference even if you have base brakes. Suspension is something to address on our cars. Coilovers, front and rear sway bars, and differential bushings would be on your to do list. Don’t blame you wanting to upgrade the stock tires. Yokohama Advan Sport,Yokohama Advan Sport A/S+,and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S come to mind. Installing an engine oil cooler should be on your top priority a specially being in the warm climate you are in.

Beautiful Roadster! FWIW, I believe I did 20 mm front and 25 mm rear spacers with my OEM wheels and the stance was just perfect. Although, I was running Swift springs which complemented the look. I also installed adjustable rear sway bars (Eibach, I believe) along with KW V1 coilovers and SPL rear camber arms, but ended up re-installing OEM sway bar as the rear end became a little too twitchy for my taste even on the most conservative setting. Good luck with your mods!

Thank you for the comment! I'm fortunate to have the Akebono calipers. I expect that my driving style would not benefit much from a rotor upgrade, but the drilled rotors do look nice, especially with a larger wheel. Sport pads, however, will be a must! As for suspension, there was a time that I was contemplating going the Swift route. I hear that they improve the ride somewhat, but I don't want to lose the standard ride height. Primarily because my wife occasionally drives it, and from previous experience, she's a little hard on the curbs when parking. My DD is lowered on Tein S springs, and the front lip has taken a beating. Tires will be another upgrade in a couple years, although how wide I'll go is still up in the air. As for the oil cooler? I've done some spirited driving in the hills and also commuted in 100°F+ summer temps in stop and go traffic. So far, no problem. I'll keep an eye on it though.

Thank you! I agree with the spacer size choice when the car is dropped. 15/20 would be too conservative for that application, especially if you keep the increased negative camber that comes without upgrading the camber arms. I had a NA Miata that was dropped on springs with Koni adjustables and larger sways. That thing drove like it was on rails when using the OEM 14" wheels! It was dialed in perfectly. I miss that car.

Very Nice Roadster:tiphat:
Regarding your; OEM-style Sport decklid spoiler
Did you install it yourself? Screws Or Tape?
I have one sitting in my garage for a couple years & have not installed it yet
See pic - No Spoiler - Yours Looks GREAT!

First off, thank you for the shout out! Really, that goes for everyone here that has left a positive remark.

LennyK... Your ZR is beautiful! As for the spoiler, it took myself and a friend a couple hours to install with the screws. The templates that came with it were spot on, although there was one drilled hole toward the center that I didn't measure well, and we spent some time trying to get the screw in without any damage to the spoiler. It also required quite a bit of drilling underneath the decklid to give ourselves access to the original holes. There's a DIY thread in the appropriate section on this forum that another member was nice enough to put together. I suggest reviewing it before you start.

I wasn't sold on the spoiler at first, hence why it took me almost a year to buy one. However, I wouldn't have it any other way now because of the way it changes the looks of the rear of the car. The ZR Sport Pkg never came equipped with the front air deflector or a spoiler, which I cannot see why the efforts weren't put into it by Nissan. It must of not added much benefit to the aero numbers. Anyway, I have both now, and they look great!

THANKS RedVoodoo - Mine came with "instructions" but not a "template"
If you still have your template - I would BUY it from you - or borrow & return - let me know (PLEASE) Anyway - I will install my spoiler someday I'm sure. FYI another "simple" mod that changes the looks in a subtle way (pic) lights, brake, reverse F1 light.

Wow, you and previous owner took really good care of that car, looks brand new!

You sound like me when I first bought my Z, tried to be conservative in mods for the first 2 years then all hell broke loose :icon17:

Personally, I would just add aftermarket wheels and call it a day. (but I'm a wheel whore) and there is a whole thread about adding aftermarket wheels with no suspension mods and it really looks good with this car

Sounds like this is not your first build anyway so you know what you're doing. Will see how long you can last without doing more

These "templates" I mention were nothing more than 8" pieces of paper with a hole in them that you taped on to the underside of the spoiler, matching the hole with the pre-drilled hole on the spoiler. You can make them yourself. I think that the DIY video on these forums shows what I'm referring to. Pretty easy though. I was just a little off on one of my measurements, which took a little extra work. These pieces of paper didn't hold up very well and ended up in the trash when I was finished.

I looked at the 3rd brake light option, but I chose to just replace the black lens with a red lens from the late model Z. After spending a few hours setting up my rearview camera by disassembling half of the cockpit, I was not quite in the mood to taking the rear bumper cover off and doing more electrical work. lol

Yes! The car was in very good condition for being almost a decade old. The previous owner babied and maintained her meticulously. In fact, it still has that new car smell! I'm guessing that it was a garage queen that saw very little rain. On the other hand, you could tell they weren't the most careful driver. I spent a lot of time trying to clean up the undersides of car where the paint was scrapped off from curbing the heck out of the plastic skirts. Fortunately, the wheels were mostly left untouched.

Speaking of wheels, I think I'll just stick with the Ray's. I've never bought wheels for any of my cars. In fact, my TL still has its 17" stockies!

Honestly, I think I'm about done. I'm probably going to use a vinyl overlay on the rear facia and, maybe, tint the windows. But, who really knows? I went into this not wanting to do anything to the car. Creature of habit, I guess!
