More Mods to my Nismo...love this car!
14 Attachment(s)
I posted some of these already but under the wrong section so I'll delete that thread.
Anyway, had some people email me a while back on how I we put the sub in the wheel well and since I had to pull it apart for the new tailights I knabbed a couple photos. The hardcore guys out there may freak over the weight of the box but its not really too bad and considering the spare is gone I would rather have it a little more planted in the back as the back end spins too easy as it is. The cover board is rather thin and light and still allows me to put things on top. Just used tiny air staples to hold the back down. Today's mods... New Clear tailights, carbon mirror covers and carbon door sills. I really dont like carbon covers but couldnt find mirrors and thought the carbon hood looked plain by itself. So...mods thus far: FI Full Exhaust with HF Cats, Stillen long tube intake, carbon hood, clear taillights, carbon mirror covers and sill plates. Alpine system with DVD, 4 new speakers, 2 small amps and a 12" single sub. In the mail.. Waiting for a Ti shift knob, carbon pillar replacements and drilled rotors, perhaps a flywheel?? Perhaps springs to lower it a tad?? Next week, goes in for tint and probably going to do the wheels in black. Eric from the PS Thread showed me some pics and looks great! Coming along good so far, what do you think? Dont want to go overboard on the mods but needed to personalize it a bit:rofl2: |
very nice. I'm loving that hood.

Nice!!

Thanks...so tempted to get those Rims Kevr but I think I'll try and black mine out first. I worry about a thinner profile tire as I've bent too many rims in the past. Here's another pic of the tailights.

Car looks good!
Paint the grill vents on the hood black. It will look a lot better. That is one awesome garage... |
Thanks man
I like that idea. I'll have the shop look into that when they paint the wheels black. Yeah, Garage is dirty but took me a week to bend all that diamond plate for the walls. I don't sleep but 2 hours a day so I do all this sh#$ when my family is asleep. Built a Guest House last month in the back next to the pool, built a huge fireplace, built a 12' movie theater screen on the other side of the house....I'm running out of projects so the Nismo is the flavor of the week right now. HAHA PS. Neighbor has a 16 car garage! No kidding and he has it all full of exotics, I'm the poor one on the street :) |
any more pics of the audio install???
|
Car looks great. I agree paint the grills black!
|
Let me know what parts you want pictures of and I'll add them to the list. Not much else to it other then the box and the head unit. Love the Alpine set up, my next step is to add quick disconnects so I can pull it out when we do track runs..
I'm on board with the paint, going to have the rims Powdercoated black, paint the one area and put the rest of the work under the hood..Fast already but could always use a bit more! Thanks for the compliments, getting there!! |
Fit and finish of the hood looks great!
|
So, how's the weight difference on the CF hood vs the stocker? Kinda been wondering, it looks quite nice, sir.
I think my intake comes in tomorrow but sigh, precipitation will be hindering an install for now. (curb side self-mechanic FTL) |
I have to say, that hood looks good.
|
man this whole car is sick.
|
LOOKS fantastic! I like it.
I want to see more pictures of the Sound system please. Also, Did you say 4 speakers? NEED more pics ;). I just spent last 10 minutes making this on MS paint. (ERIC if you see this , don't shoot me! :icon17:) .. What do you think about a cf stripe like this? (there are tons of vinyl cf available on the web) The cf should follow the angular hood lines. http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...Z_com/moto.png Great journal  |
Ew no!
|
no... that makes it look like the old veilside V3 for the 350z
|
I was thinking something like that but a thinner stripe that starts from the ridges on the hood. I just bought a bunch more parts for her as I've pretty much opted to just turn it into a weekend toy and occasional track car rather then a daily driver. Just a bunch of little parts..tow hook, a few carbon pcs, pulley kit from Fontana Nissan, Ti Shift knob and working with John the carbon guy on some nose vents. I'm an addict!! HAHA
Weight... To my surprise the stock hood is surprisingly light. Kind of hard to tell for sure because the size makes it deceiving but I'd say no more then 5 lbs less. You could tell me they were off by a lb and I'd believe you, stock was pretty light! PS. Going to the LA Car Show preview night after work, can't wait!!!!!! |
you should go full CF just do it! lol
|
I did that with my GSXR1000 back in the day only to crash it on the 60 fwy. One of my fellow employees fell a sleep with a cigar in his mouth (drinking and driving of course), cigar fell out of his mouth, fire dept think it started the carbon on fire and that's how he almost burnt up.
He no longer works for us but looks pretty bad, that said, I dont want too much carbon and considering his M6 wasn't all carbon I'm a little paranoid about going crazy. Besides, I like it, just a few little bits to separate it from all the other Z's out there :) |

Looks like a nice project! Enjoy your new NST Pulley Kit and good luck with all your projects!!! |
Thanks man! Im taking it to the next level pretty quick. Look for pics soon. Thanks for the pulleys, going to dyno this thing once I get it back from the body shop and see how all these mods turned out. Should be good!

If I remember correctly, The hood, both doors and roof is made out of aluminum to reduce weight! ;) During research and development, Nissan actually kept this car about 32xx lbs for the longest time. But toward the end, some government safety regulations made the car go slightly over 3300 lbs. Quote:

you should paint the hood silver and just leave the two gills carbon. I saw a $100k corvette the other day that did this and it looks sick! he had carbon in all the right spots too! i don't like full carbon, when you buy carbon from differnt companys all over it never matches!
|
please dont get springs man - you will end up ruining your suspension... well unless you spend a lot of time and money on them - in which case might as well get some decent coils
|
Actually I already did but after reading some posts I just resold them without even opening them.
Thanks for the input..now I'm considering coil overs but need to save up some extra $ first. I think I would rather do a track day first and see how the Nismo feels as is. Appreciate the feedback. |
any dynos before and after mods? i wanna know what i might be looking at with a CAI/HFC
|
That's where I screwed up, would of really liked to get a nice baseline. After the paintshop next week I think I'm going to take Bumblebee's advice and do the ECU remap. Really wanted to go Turbo's initially but SSSOOO pricey! Knowing me, I'll probably do them anyway but not just yet.
I will say this, I know the pulleys don't seem like a big mod but it sure seems to spin a bit faster. The stock pulley was really heavy so I have to think there's something to changing them out. I also have a couple people interested in the stock wheels, problem is I havent found much I like better. You doing anything crazy on yours? |
I've rolled over 5k (almost 5.2 right now) so I'm comfortable with pushing it
gonna find a cheap dyno day locally and get a few runs in. I think I'd really like to see what a Lightweight Flywheel and some stock diameter Light Pulleys would do for it. I've heard the FW makes the SRM quick as hell. |
Car looks really nice Vipor, checked out your pics. I met up with Dirtydave a couple times from the board, he has your same car. Really like the Nismo in white.
|
Met up with Tony for a while from FI at the Fontana show. He was telling me I should just do the flywheel at the same time I do the clutch and I'll need to do the clutch when I do Turbo's...
Turbo's, clutch, flywheel....labor....this car is going to break me..HAHAHAH |
turbos.... you whore.
|
HAHAAHHAHAHAHA
Going to be a while bro. Need to wait until the prices come down a little more first. Whore...funny! |
