This was posted in the weight reduction thread.

Thanks for the info Cooltoy. I'll check it out.

As far as the oil pan spacer, I'm not running one. I'd rather save a little more and pick up the CJM baffled oil pan and be done with it.

That way I can run increased capacity, add a little bit of cooling, and be able to run stickier tires without the risk of oil starvation.

There are a bunch of other recommendations in that thread. If you want, I could search them all for you.

Crux 02-09-2017 05:14 PM

That thread is huge! thats a really generous offer, cooltoy! a lot of the things they're doing in that thread would eliminate the streetability of my car. even buying a lightweight battery would just be a swap in for track days, so I could use my OEM battery on the road.

My build has always been tailored for backroads, I just recognize the value of seat time in a closed environment with a certified instructor.

It's not the a big of a deal, I will search it as time permits.

Haven't tried it yet but I will on Thursday and let you guys know. Here's the weight. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...36e721f849.jpg

So I got the Evo2 16-cell installed and tested. Bottom line is it works great, just as ChipsWithDips said it would. Install/test info here: http://www.the370z.com/members-370z-...ml#post2452209 . It's really a much nicer solution than relocating a heavier battery. As with all minimal battery solutions, I wouldn't recommend it (or at least, would recommend caution) on a regular street car where you might run the stereo or the lights for a while with the engine off. Especially with this battery, since the manual specifically states that if you drain an LiFePo4 battery below a certain critical voltage the (rather expensive!) battery is basically toast and can't be recharged.

Decided to do a lightweight battery. Went with a etx15l which is basically a odyssey pc680, 11lbs. I highly doubt the Braille p2015 puts out what it says it puts out and everyone says Deka makes the brallies anyways. I ran that battery here in ohio for 2 years without issue. Also if you look at Dekas sheets, every ETX battery you find will have identical specs at any store with the same part number! I ended up buying a etx15l from autozone with a Duralast sticker on it.

I had to do a little work to get it to fit right but I had all the stuff so no big deal. I replaced the OEM tray with a lightweight 1/8th peice of aluminium, made 2 paper thin steel tubes to increase the height so the terminals would be at OEM height, and had to buy 2 steel cylinders so the OEM rings had something to fit around as a terminal. The etx batteries don't come with the right kind of terminal top like the OEM battery has. Last I relocated the negative ground wire which worked out perfect because there was a bracket there with the same size holes. Just a simple bolt down. The bracket was holding 2 relays so I just zip tied them to some wires.

All in all I'd guess I saved around 22lbs.

Has not failed to start once. It cranks a little slower in near freezing weather, but that doesn't happen often where I am.

Mounting it was a bit of a pain but I ended up making my own replacement battery tray. Dropped 30lbs total.

I've been on a PC680 on a DD for a long time now. It's been in the car a little over 2 years now and I still haven't had to replace it. In some ways my install is a worst-case scenario: mounted all the way in the rear of the car, so maximum positive cable run length, and on a Stillen 20% underdriven crank pulley. Just a few months ago (right about the 2 year mark) I upgraded my alternator pulley to NST's 10% overdriven one to help the battery recharge better a bit.

In the overall, it works fine. You do have to be more conscientious about battery drain though. If you drain the battery with the engine off (e.g. running the radio a long time, playing with the power windows and seats continuously, leaving the headlights on , etc), you will make the car unstartable until you jump it or recharge it.

Odyssey's OMAX-6A-1B charger is a pretty good investment to go with the PC680. You can install a permanent quick-connect header at the battery (I ran mine through the trunk floor so it's accessible outside the car with the trunk closed) to make it easy to hook up. It's great for maintaining the battery if the car is off a long time, and it knows exactly the charging profiles to use to max out the PC680. Even if I haven't been abusing my battery, I hook it up once every week or two just to let it top off the battery (it does a better job than the alternator does).

From my research the yellow top ones (forget the brand) and braille batteries are both very good compared to stock, but the down side is you cannot let them sit for very long or they just die. I think for the braille battery I was looking at 3 days tops, but you can just throw on a trickle charger if you plan on being gone for a long period and be fine also.

I agree with Dreamer. The best lightweight ones are braille. The best is the B3121 if you're worried about leaving it out too long or worried it will go dead. It only weighs 21 pounds, which is still good, especially if you're relocating the battery to the back, which improves weight distribution. The other 15 pound batteries are good too, it just depends on your preferences
