Skosmc drift build / ruining my car journal.
Car as of right now. 7.31.15
http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...e88216-z-g.jpg Welcome to my journal. I know we don't have a huge crowd on here that's into drifting, but for those interested, feel free to follow my journal. Cars being built for occasional drift events as well as derping around with my friends. So I bought my car a few years ago just to drive around, do a few things here and there, and overall have a nice daily. Here is a pic when I first bought it and installed some AAM short tails.. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ock-z-jpeg.jpg Then two years ago I lowered the car, did some exterior stuff, ect. At that point I was saving up for some wheels and was more or less just going to have a weekend car I could have some fun in. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...coveys-s14.jpg I then went to a few drift events. I've always been into drifting and have been wanting to build a 240 or something like it for the passed few years. At an event in Indy, I ended up meeting a great group of people that were all local and into drifting. The rest was history and I've now decided to set it up for some track use and overall destroy a beautiful car. Below is an up to date picture of the car. A lot of work is being done and I hope to have it back on the road by the end of July. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ng-lowered.jpg Ok. Now for the breakdown on whats been done, what still needs done, and what I want to do in the future. **Done** *BC Coilovers = Done.(Went down another 10mm on 6.2.15) *Megan Front Camber arms = Done.(maxed out camber till alignment) *SPC rear camber arms = Done.(Needs aligned) *SPC Toe bolts = Done.(Toe needs set) *AAM Short tails = Done. *Seibon Carbon lip = Done. ***Wanted to post this picture from two days ago. It was before I put the 20mm spacer on up front and lowered it 10mm. Like I said in my first post, the wheel gap was slightly to much for me. It looks way better now with the spacer / being lower and also helps get the inner barrels away from the LCAs. Soon as the new tires get in ill get them mounted and the front will be done. Still need to mount the rear tires because the tires where to narrow and it was to much stretch.
http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ide-6-2-15.jpg When I got off work yesterday I decided it would be best for my overall health to jump on the bike and head out for some Tacos!! (It was taco tuesday.. I couldnt say no) My Buddy decided to pop a tube so it put a small delay in our taco adventure. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...opped-tube.jpg After some amazing tacos I started working on the Z. Lowered the front another 10mm. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ers-6-2-15.jpg Next up for tonight is a Tie rod spacer. Wish me luck :tiphat: http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...el-panther.jpg |

Slammed at work this week so I didn't get to work on the Z as much as I wanted too. On a good note, my Aerojacket wing came in. Gonna get it mounted soon and send it off to get prepped and painted. :ugh2: While they have the color to match the car, I'm gonna have them paint the tube handle for the hydro as well.

Sorry for the delays in updates. Been a crazy passed two weeks with work and other things going on. So Sunday I finally had time to install my new spoiler. I started masking off the trunk. Centered the wing and traced it. I then made templates on the bottom of the wing so I could mark where I needed to drill.
http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ing-mocked.jpg Drilled out the pilot holes and stuck a small wire in each with the wing setting on the trunk to ensure all holes lined up perfectly and the wing was centered. After that I finished drilling the holes out to the correct size. I then mounted the wing one last time before packing it up for paint. I took a picture of the paint code and also took off the gas door lid so my paint guy could match everything up and dropped everything off to him. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ng-drilled.jpg While I'm getting my wing painted I decided it would be kinda neat to color match my new Z1 shift knob. I took it over to my fathers garage and sand blasted it down. Came out ready for some paint. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...shift-knob.jpg My GF decided it was time to part ways with her FRS last week. We said our goodbyes to the FRS and traded it in. She picked up a 2013 G37x. Since we were out and about in her new car I decided to go pick up my Rear Work VSKFs from my buddies house. He mounted the new rubbers on it for me. I then had to do the mandatory, " what if" picture with the G :rofl2: BTW, turns out you can sadly only fit one 18x12 in the truck of the G. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...43-g-works.jpg I got home last night and had a bit of time to work on the Z before going to bed. I started removing the center console. Trying to see how much room I have and where I'm going to mount my Hydro, install my switch to disconnect the yaw censor and some other things. I have some ideas on where I'm going to mount it. Going for a clean install. Ordering an ASD hydro today so more to come. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...le-removed.jpg |
I like the whale tail

Cool  love to see fellow drifters. I think your #1 priority should be finding an LSD though. Open diff sliding is laaaaaaaame :roflpuke2:
|
Had an hour or so to work on the Z tonight before I go ride the fixed gear and get some TACOS!! Figured I'd take a picture of the green power wire to the yaw sensor everyone always ask about. Waiting for switch to come in and I'll splice it and wire the switch in

Since you are dropping the rear subframe anyway to install the subframe bushings, it is going to be easier to put the diff bushing in as well. Also if you have a deep freezer or your regular freezer can go really low temp put the bushings in their for atleast a week. Because they are a PITA to put in our steel subframe.

Well it was a busy week, last week / weekend. Still managed to chip away at the long Z list. Hydro came in. Started mocking that up.
http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...hydro-mock.jpg Ran into a small clearance issue with the boot bracket. Had to shave that down. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ket-shaved.jpg A lot more to come with this. Ordering some more things I need for it today. Should be a very clean install when it's all done.. |
Next I moved on to the front of the car. I'm trying to get it completely wrapped up so I can move to the back. Went to remove the bump stop brackets and add the tire rod spacer. Removed the cotter pin and outer tie rod off.
http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...er-tie-rod.jpg Here's the inner tie rod after moving the boot down. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...oved-inner.jpg I then removed it and the outer to get them on the bench and add the spacer. Turns out 350z tie rods are a different size.. Who would of guessed. :icon14: So I called my buddy and he started making me a new one as well as a smaller spacer for the drivers side. I'll be going to pick those up tonight. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ize-spacer.jpg After that I decided to start working on the bump stops. Took them over to my fathers so I could grind down the brackets. Got a little crazy with the grinder on one of the brackets so welded it up and smoothed it out. Then sand blasted them down and got some paint on them. (Not the best welder. Don't judge it :icon17: ) http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ved-welded.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ps-painted.jpg After I was done doing the brackets, my paint guy called me and told me the spoiler was ready for pick up! Here are a few before photos when he was prepping it. It had a low spot he had to knock out. Also (Which I didn't notice.. and it kind sucked ) it had a crack in it. So after gluing and some bondo. He primed and painted it. Came out awesome! I then went home and mounted it. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...p-low-spot.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...iler-crack.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...-painted-2.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...-painted-1.jpg Also, while I was mounting it. I decided to take the extra weight off the trunk since there was no point in having it. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...oved-trunk.jpg That's about it. A lot more coming this week. Sorry to make these post so short. Never enough time in the day! |
Loving the new spoiler. How much was to prep and painted? Trying to see whether it's worth it get it in frp and paint match it, or I just go for the cf instead.

No huge updates tonight. Raining and crappy out. I did put the Z1 shift nob on tonight to see what it looks like. It was originally anodized black. Took it over, sand blasted it, and dropped it off to get painted when I got the spoiler painted. Came out

In for tire destruction.. What's the deal with the yaw sensor? Why does that have to come out?

Sorry for the lack of updates guys. Been super busy. Long story short, still waiting for some parts to come in but in the mean time, I couldn't stand not driving the Z. So I tossed everything together and got it on the road. Here are few updates on what the car looks like as of now. Still some adjusting to do. Rears gonna come down slightly and gonna run some less camber. Also need to roll the front fenders cause i'm rubbing like crazy.
First day out of the garage and for a wash. Also the Zs big sister in the background checking things out. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...e88216-z-g.jpg Mandatory gas station pic with my buddy from Alabama. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ure88217-z.jpg Before a drift event meeting up with some of my friends. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...ack-z-barn.jpg After a car show with my Uncle and one of his many toys. 62 Thunderbird on Boyds. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...hunderbird.jpg That's it for now. More to come :ugh2: |
Haven't forgot about this! lol. Here are some recent pictures. It's now in storage. I hate the winter and will not be touching it till Spring. I will be buying parts though :ugh2:
Rears still gotta come down a bit. May go slightly less of a tire stretch. Still trying to find that sweet spot between being able to actually drive it and it looking good without gap. http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...side-z-med.jpg Front's ok for now. How my front lip made it though the summer I will never know! http://www.the370z.com/members/skosm...201-103706.jpg |
Looks damn good. What specs are your rear tires/wheels? I'm trying to decide on a tire size for my rears now.
Do you use a grippy front tire? |
Using Federal SS in the front. Not terrible as far as grip. Rear wheels are 18x12 stretching a 265 on it.
