Mono ProjectZ Time Attack Build Journal

2 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I've finally manage to find some time to make my build journal with lots of encouragement from Marken, a friend from AAM Competition "sup Marken!". I have to admit I've been lazy with the build, and I like to apologize for the lack of some installation pics. But I am going to give you my words that I will keep you guys updated from now on. So hang in there while I am sorting out some pics for uploads.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/...ed_Picture.jpg

A little bit of myself, of course :)
My name is Ben Tang and I've always been fascinated with speed since 1990. I am a racer as well, and I've raced competitively with NASA. I had a year with NASA's Honda Challenge H4 Series back in 2006. I've almost made to National if it wasn't a blown motor that came at the end of that year. I was more then sure I was heading to Ohio for National, since I was up there with the front runners and so was my seasonal points. Well, that ended there, and I was quietly looking for my next car.

In 2009, when the Nissan 370z made its first appearance in Los Angeles Auto Show, I went there with my lovely wife. After entering the building, I literally walk straight to the Nissan booth and told my wife I REALLY want this car. She replied me "dream on", so I had to keep repeating myself for about for 3 years before I went to my local Nissan dealer :). I have to tell you that before I buy this Awesome Z, I know exactly what I am going to do with it, no jokes. I know I will strip that almost everything out with no holds barred, all out modifications until I go broke, no I am serious lol. Now, that's a poor man's story.

What is the purpose of this car?
It is primary built for Time Attack Challenges in SoCal California. This car is only going to the days on the track, and will not be driven on the street at all.

What class are you competing in?
The car will be competing in Street Class for a few events, then it will be going in Limited Class with some optimizations that is going to put me in an advantage. I am looking closely at the 4.5 Liter stroker kit, and more boosts which should land it somewhere near 700 whp. Then comes the wider tires and full blown aeros that is going to take advantage of the new found power.

AAM Competition Twin Turbo Installation

Hi guys, this is still an on going process. I've actually just received the packages from AAM Competition yesterday, so I am going to post more pics of the detail installation. Anyway, let's just take a look at these Bad Boys. Thanks Marken from AAM for making my days "thumbs up!"

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._28_31_Pro.jpg
Just arrived at 11Motors at Baldwin Park, CA for the turbo installation. Now, if you are going to find good work, this is the place and I mean it. I can't express in words how good these guys work. They are so meticulous with their stuffs, they actually lie every single nuts and bolts on a dedicated table so they don't miss anything on the reinstallation process. They marked every torqued bolts after they installed them. Their floors are always clean, it's freakin JDM man.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._29_48_Pro.jpg
This splitter made by Built 2 Apex is actually the second version that goes on the car. I'll have more detail pics for you once I have it disassembled. Extremely sturdy that I can stand on it, seriously.

Look at those eye candies, atleast for me they are :)

Finally, I have some updates with the car today. Both the bumper and the transmission is off the car now. The motor and the factory fuel tank should be off the car by tomorrow. The factory fuel tank is not needed anymore as you may know that I am going with an ATL fuel cell.

One of the brake duct leading to the Caliper, we are working on a better one though. I'll keep you posted :)

Hey guys, the motor is out! If you have keen eyes, you would noticed the AC delete and the belt is running a different configuration :)

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/...6788657671.jpg
Just got some pics from the shop as they were test fitting the turbos on the motor. I've been trying to get them to get me more pictures since I have been busy with my job and can't be there to document the installation. I am hoping to get more details of the installation tomorrow.

Here's a shot of the turbo from the driver side. As you can see the clutch kit is still factory, but the racing one is going in there soon.

More pics will be updated in the following days when the turbo kit is being installed.....

Some old pics.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/...130324_001.jpg
The car when it was first purchased :)

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/...130716_001.jpg
Moton Club Sport has finally arrived! These bad boys really make my day, until installation problems :(

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/...130804_003.jpg
First of all, Moton does not supply top hats and I did not realize that, and it does not fit the factory top hat. As you can see, the damper's shaft is too wide to go through. What was Moton smoking?

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/...130812_005.jpg
Fortunately, a friend of mine at V2 Competition hooked my up with Buddy Club whom made extremely impressive top hats that fits perfectly with Moton's supplied sandwiching washers.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/...130811_003.jpg
Btw, did I tell you that one of it's shaft is shorter then the other making it impossible to fit the top locking nut?

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/...130813_001.jpg
They had to send me one of these sandwiching locks which doesn't really look good at all. It doesn't match the others.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._27_12_Pro.jpg
Here's how the others look like.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/...130813_002.jpg
Anyway, I am quite happy and excited once they're installed :)

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._17_20_Pro.jpg
more pics.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._37_27_Pro.jpg
My first attempt to make the ever so flimsy splitter lol, it works at Buttonwillow Raceway though, but I doubt it's going to work over 140 mph lol. Pleas note that the second version made by Built 2 Apex is incoming, with pics.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._53_29_Pro.jpg
You may ask how I determined the size out front, just find anything you can that works "giggles".

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._59_58_Pro.jpg
A few pics of the finish product, what do you guys think?

Apologize for the lack of details on the process of building the safety cage by Pit Garage in El Monte CA, but here's some finished pics. If you can't find them, please pm me. Hope you guys like it.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._47_45_Pro.jpg
Look closely, you might notice that all the sound deadener's been taken out with dry ice. I do have a small video of it, but I am too lazy to upload to youtube.

With the Odyssey PC680 battery relocated as well.

The car getting its first ever corner balance and alignment by a dear friend Steven, and he doesn't want to charge me, but I've always paid a man hard a work "thanks Steven, you da man"

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._10_42_Pro.jpg
Who here doesn't want to take these home? I am not the only one, I know. Please say it :)

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._36_07_Pro.jpg
I am not going to lie, these BBK from StopTech does its job impressive well. A friend with an S2k equipt Willwood BBK told me that his brakes doesn't brake that way this Z brakes, having driven him in my car once. And he was using the same CarboTech brake pads that I used.

This is an add-on equipment that does camber and toes. Incase you are wondering, I had my cambers at -3 all around just to try it out.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._34_39_Pro.jpg
Here's the total weight when it was done, please be aware that the wheels are not on the car due the designs of the equipment.

Thanks for your support buddy. I just can't express how much I wanted to be back on the track.

IOPortRacing's been laggin on my fuel cell, and I can't get much words out of them atm. It's starting to get on nerve :)

Waiting sucks, and I thought I had it all planned.

Awesome news! I just received the tracking number for my ATL Fuel Cell. I am going to post some pics of it when it arrives.

MadBarber 03-13-2015 05:53 PM

Check out this place call Rising Star Motor in Temple City that did my oil cooler installation. I've never seen so many Zs there, considering they are specialized with S2ks. This is a very good sight , and I am proud of the Zs.

Hey guys, I was getting bored waiting for the turbo installation which hasn't really started yet. So I started practicing aluminum welding. A welder friend of mine told me to practice beat on plate, and I did :). The first 3 days, I was not using the Pedal because it didn't arrive yet. But I was using the Pedal on the 4th day. Here's what I came up with, I understand it's kinda like a mess and it's not going to win any award lol.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._04_50_Pro.jpg
The result is a messy plate of 4 days of practicing.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._05_19_Pro.jpg
Here's the 4th day with the Pedal. Just incase you are wondering, I was using 1/16 aluminum plate with 3/32 Red Tungsten, and 1/16 rod on this particular picture. The welding is an inverted Everlast Micro Tig 185 with AC/DC capabilities. What do you guys think, please give me some advice for me to move on. Thanks in advance.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/..._05_26_Pro.jpg

I was told by 11Motors that they were busy with a Skyline GT-R, but they'll start the installation on Monday. So I'll get you guys the pics as they go, promise.
