Like I said, I'll drive over there and see if there's a free area. If not, I'll keep looking.

It would even be an option to have alternating MD locations... for example Rockville and Bowie. Both are good locations. Something to think about.

This. We don't need a location central to everyone, that's why we have Fairfax meets every week. I know for me personally, if it's in Rockville it might as well be in Fairfax. I'm probably not going to drive that far out very often. I think most MD people are closer to Columbia than they are to Rockville, but I guess we can leave that to the poll.

m4a1mustang 12-01-2013 12:09 PM

Whatever we do I don't want it to result in even lower average MD attendance. Seems like we have been doing pretty good lately so I want to keep the trend going in the right direction.

dmhenderson 12-01-2013 02:11 PM

So here we go. Yes the shopping center is busy but the back of the parking lot near the two banks (between the Starbucks and the Krispy Kreme is deserted:

It takes me 45 minutes to an hour to get to either fairfax or Columbia one way.

The other option is to move it even further north towards PA like Frederick or something if we're gonna do 3

We have so few PA members I'd be reluctant to do that. I'd rather cover MD from the E-W vs N-S. After all the club is centered around VA/DC/MD. The PA/DE element is the fringe.

That's not too bad. Takes me about 35 minutes to get to Fairfax and 75 minutes to Columbia. :p

I'll throw this out there, the Starbucks across the street from Arundel Mills mall. Parking lot is decent and I've seen car meets being held there before (those are at night though). It's only 10 mins from our current location and conveniently right across from the mall/casino. Also plenty of food choices nearby both inside and outside of the mall.

I like that location. Looks like plenty of space and lots of nearby lunch options.

I love that idea... right near my house actually :roflpuke2:

but also they have a Panera... which makes good coffee/breakfast foods... also across the street there's plenty of places for food.

Bagels N Grinds, Arundel Mills Boulevard, Hanover, MD

So this place opened recently... i went there one time to get my wife an I breakfast. Seemed quite and there was parking (although i cannot remember how much). The place wasn't bad either. I suggest on the next MD meet maybe everyone goes for a drive to check it out? just an idea. It's also not to far from the current columbia location...

And another idea could be meeting on the second floor of the parking garage at Wegmans.... really its because i Love Wegmans. Dono how busy it would be in the morning... but they serve coffee!

No thanks.. to Germantown/Rockville area.

eastwest2300 12-01-2013 07:17 PM

I'll look around the Silver Spring area fellas..

dmhenderson 12-01-2013 07:18 PM

I would prefer silver spring to Columbia or Arundel Mills. Hell Wheaton/Aspen Hill would work too.

Just don't make it further.

I never see you folks :(:(:(:(:(:(

Even just so PA guys don't have to cut through Baltimore would be nice.

eastwest2300 12-01-2013 08:35 PM

cody, you should plan a big meet with your boys, bring them down here.

Agree

MyKindaGuise 12-01-2013 09:20 PM

I don't really know the areas down there like you guys do but I would happily travel this.

m4a1mustang 12-01-2013 09:23 PM

I doubt we'd ever go north of Baltimore unless its some special event. Arundel Mills / Columbia is probably the farthest north we will go.

Yeah North of Baltimore would be way too far for a bi-weekly meet for me. As it is I'm spending like 1/4 of a tank getting there and back.

eastwest2300 12-01-2013 09:29 PM

supercharged gas :icon08:

dmhenderson 12-01-2013 09:29 PM

Yeah pretty much.

MyKindaGuise 12-01-2013 09:32 PM

IDK then. Would a quarterly near PA meet be possible? Or even a 1-2 times a year meet?

3+ hours round trip to potentially not have a good turn out sucks for us.

m4a1mustang 12-01-2013 09:35 PM

I'm just going to say no right now. Our base is VA/DC/MD and that isn't likely to change.

MyKindaGuise 12-01-2013 09:40 PM

Interesting.

m4a1mustang 12-01-2013 09:42 PM

What can I say. It's a VA/DC/MD club. We do have a few people on the fringe in PA and DE (even one in WV), but by and large (95%) the core is VA/DC/MD.

MyKindaGuise 12-01-2013 10:48 PM

Not asking for you to say anything. I do think that the quick response of a flat out no to my question of "how about once a year" is ******** but whatever.

Hey I'll be up for Carlisle again in the Spring for sure.

Sorry you feel that way. It just doesn't make much sense from my end to do that when the vast majority of our members are based in DC/MD/VA. It's much easier to have the handful of PA people (two registered) come to a MD meet (either a regular meet or special event) if it looks like we are going to have a large crowd.

Please keep in mind that since inception in 2009 the club has always been focused on the DC-Metro area. It's not ********, I just have to draw the line somewhere.

b1adesofcha0s 12-01-2013 11:48 PM

Going to Fairfax is about a 3 hr round trip for me just because of all the traffic on the way back home. I don't go to Fairfax meets very often, but I do make it to a couple of them every year.

Cristobal09 12-02-2013 08:15 AM

Two locations is fine IMO.

H2O_Doc 12-02-2013 05:57 PM

How about we rename Fairfax "Baja Maryland?"

We could do meats in MD every week that way.

4r3s 12-04-2013 08:24 AM

Just throwing this out there. Why are we looking at making another meet closer to DC? I hate driving to Fairfax because of all the traffic and if I'm going to go its because I'm going to visit my brother afterwards. Rockville and the like are just the same as driving all the way to Fairfax as far as I'm concerned. There really is nothing wrong with the current Columbia meet place. I think some are just butt hurt that no one is attending meets regularly in the winter. Sorry, but I'm not interested in standing in a parking lot and freezing my arse off.

If anything I'd propose a place further north to help spread out meet up areas. For example the Hunt Valley Town Center. There's no starbucks but there are other coffee shops there.

If the Columbia meet up location gets moved further south I will no longer be attending meet ups at all. Sorry.

MyKindaGuise 12-04-2013 08:29 AM

:stirthepot: Say it isn't so. Another person wanting a meet a little more north.

On a less sarcastic note....Are we big enough to have sub groups? Like MAZOC North and MAZOC South?

Not at all big enough. We have under 60 members and only a fraction are active. :icon17:

To be clear my vote is to leave the Columbia meet alone and move the Fairfax meet.

We aren't necessarily committed to moving further south. In fact, it'd be a bad idea if we just up and left Columbia and moved MD to Rockville exclusively. That would alienate too many people. We are just trying to see if there are better options than the current Columbia location that might help our attendance figures and overall improve the experience... i.e. instead of standing in a super busy Target lot we can have something closer to Fairfax, where we are relatively sheltered and in close proximity to a standalone Starbucks and plenty of good eateries.

I happen to like the Arundel Mills location that Shahid posted. It's close enough to Columbia that it won't make a difference for most. It has room to host us, a standalone Starbucks, and a lot of nearby food options...

eastwest2300 12-04-2013 08:47 AM

It sucks, but you cant make everyone happy.
