Send it to Jalopnik with some story about your hot momma running from the cops with moonshine in it or something. And that it needs identifying, of course. lol

problem is they all look sooooo similar

From I can tell it sure looks to be an early 30s Chevrolet Roadster. Some key recognition features:

- The louvered intake vent on the side of the engine cover
- The Chevy emblem on the center caps
- Notice the design of the frame of the ragtop. Specifically the part located behind your Grand Mother, its kind of unique
- The green one on the right is a 1931 Chevy Roadster in South Africa and most closely resembles the one your Grand Mother is in. The mustard and brown one in your photo looks almost the same as well.
- The brown one on the bottom left is a 1933 Chevy Roadster and the bottom right one is a 1930 Chevy Roadster.

ZCarMan 07-11-2013 05:07 PM

And here is one more for comparison, again a 1931 Chevy Sport Roadster. 6cyl. with 50HP! Must've been a blast to run in. You could own one in 1931 for $475.00!!

Damn Jon, nice work on CSI: MAZOC edition

m4a1mustang 07-12-2013 08:17 AM

Jon,

Those are possible, however the '31 Chevy roadsters don't have a matching top (notice how the canvas doesn't wrap back to the back of the door) and the drums appear to be a lot bigger on the Chevy than they do on the car in question.

I think what would help the most at this point is if we knew where the photo was taken.

RandyD 07-12-2013 08:27 AM

I think this was outside Philadelphia - maybe Upper Darby

RandyD 07-12-2013 08:28 AM

i also agree the wireframe wheels might mean it's in the early 30's and not the 20's

I am not seeing anything like these two parts - the little step on the rear fender (presumably to get into the rumble seat) and the round tube shape on the front bumper.

take it back - on that last one Jon posted i see a little rear step..

I've been trying to key off the stamping on the engine bay where the breather fins are at. I have yet to spot one similar to the one in this pic so far. On your Grandma's the fins come all the way out to the end of the stamp. On all the pics we've seen so far trying to match with the fins stop a good 6-8 inches before the edge of the stamp.

The reason I'm using the stamping is because pretty much everything else could be aftermarket while the stamped metal would be tough to (not impossible just more difficult) to recreate. Something like a step to get in and out of the car or the bumper could have easily been swapped.

honestly you should try something along the lines of what Rob suggested. The right 5-10 people looking at this picture will be able to tell you what it is in a heart beat. Get it posted to Jalopnik!

The story was a joke (although it wont hurt to have SOME story).

They'll figure it out in no time.

Here is some better photos of the 1932 Chevrolet Roadster on the left, compared with the photos of Randy's Grand Ma and another the one I showed earlier that you commented on the non-wrapping canvas. I believe that was due to whoever restored that particular 31 Roadster.

http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0fa3ac9d.png

The 1932 Chevy Roadsters were changed and are easily identified by the huge vents on the side of the engine in front of the spare tire.

As you may have recognized I enjoyed this little research project as it always exposes one to some history that otherwise was unknown to me. Here is a cool video from back in the day. If you pay particular attention at the 58 second mark you'll see a 31 Roadster and then a couple of other times you'll see the 32 with its huge vents. Oddly enough, the 31 roadster has the same non-wrapping canvas as the one in the photo.

MAZOC trip to go see the fight? I'm definitely trying to go watch it in person and see the return of the real Anderson Silva.

eastwest2300 07-13-2013 11:37 PM

Anderson Silva has a very soft chin... This last fight showed that...

In Vegas? Lol those tickets are going to be insanely expensive and plane tickets won't be cheap either because of the holidays.

I wouldn't say that. I'd say he got hit right on the button and he ducked into the punch too.

Yeah in Vegas. I told myself that if Anderson Silva fought again in North America I would go see it live. It probably will be expensive, but I don't care. It's something I can cross off my bucket list. Besides I'll have a lot of PTO to use by then and I could make a whole Vegas or west coast trip out of it. My sister is ready to go with me too.

Nah I can't drive that far like Randy. I'd rather save myself some time and just fly there.

Of course I'm serious! I've wanted to go watch a live UFC event for soooo long. Now with my new job I actually have the money and vacation time to do so. My onpy requirement was that it should be an Anderson Silva fight because he's my favorite fighter.

eastwest2300 07-14-2013 01:31 PM

He only fights in las vegas?

dmhenderson 07-14-2013 02:28 PM

Title fights are usually in vegas or AC. Vegas mostly for the MMA stuff.
Blades, get me a ticket price for the fight and I'll consider going with you. Just realized I have enough frequent flyer miles to buy a round trip business class ticket to vegas.

A lot of Silva's recent fights have been in Brazil. It would be an awesome trip to go there and watch the fight, but the trip would probably be too much.

I will let you know once I get them. Did a bit of research and it seems like the best way to get tickets for a big event like this is to join the UFC Fight Club ($75 membership) so you can get access to pre-sale tickets. I think I might do that. Tickets at face value are gonna be way cheaper than buying them later from stub hub or something.

eastwest2300 07-14-2013 05:36 PM

Man, I'll be watching the fight from right here... haha..

Talked to a friend and he said it's 600-1000 for ringside but you can't really see anything and about half that for floor seats.

Let me know what you figure out.
The girlfriend is NOT happy about this development (lol)
