Thanks, Steve. When the registration closes I will forward you the information.

Also, let's get a radio head count right now:

Do you have a two-way radio for yourself? Do you have any that could be borrowed, and if so how many?

I have one radio for myself and have loaned the other to GM_Traitor3.5.

I'm going to update the registration list with radio information as more people chime in.

Kirkster 05-06-2011 09:42 AM

I have 2 of the Motorola MR350R radios.

ZCarMan 05-06-2011 10:53 AM

I have one for myself and one that I can offer for the trip to someone who does not have one.

Radio Inventory Follows:

2 ea. Long Range (35 Mile Range) Motorola 2-Ways
4 ea. Mid Range (14 Mile Range) Motorola 2-Ways
6 ea. Total (each set requires 3 ea. AA Batteries)

Pretty Sure Kirkster said he was bringing 2 ea. Long Range Motorola 2-Ways as well.......so I think we are in good shape. I'll probably suggest the convoy leader have one of the long range radios as well as the Tail End Charlie......

Yep -- retired Signal Corps, can never have TOO many radios......:icon17:

And yes, we volunteered to be the TEC, did it last year -- it is a position of GREAT HONOR & RESPONSIBILITY! :driving:

Route Options -- A Discussion......

2 Attachment(s)
Just for giggles and grins, I worked up an "Option B" for the CruiZe down to ZDayZ -- I throw it out for a discussion/consideration of the group. Personally, I'm fine with either route -- Option B exposes the group to the Dragon on the way into Fontana Village -- it wasn't an option last year because of the rock slide/road closure......

Anyway, two Route Option papers attached (.pdf's) Option A is last year's route (or close to it); Option B is the Knoxville route.....

Let the discussion begin.....:icon17:

I personally think we should save the Dragon for Thursday morning when we're all fresh. We'd have been in the car for around 10 hours by the time we hit the Dragon. Not to mention our cars will be loaded down with grills, beer, and a bunch of other crap. :icon17:

The main thing is we aren't going to take 11 through Bristol like we did last year. Instead we'll stay on 81 and come down on 23/26 (the same way me, you, and Amar went back last year). This will be faster and the only time we'll ever see stop lights is when we exit the highway for our rest/fuel stops.

The route I have on the first post is just easier and less can go wrong with that one, IMO.

Agree Steve that the Opt A is certainly "less risk", plus we don't have to go by BMS this year and can turn directly down I-26 -- maybe I should warn our NCST bubba and let him know we are coming,.....:icon17:

Anyway, just threw that out there for another option -- I was raised in a community were you always have "another" course of action....:icon17:

Hopefully I'll get to feeling better this afternoon as I want to do some GoPro mounting tests this afternoon -- noticed AK had already done some work in this area, I just gotta figure out all my "Roadster" options.....

I got a couple radios and agree, save the Dragon for Thursday. I wouldn't even want to attempt it after driving for 10 hours with a fully loaded car.

PapoZalsa 05-08-2011 10:14 AM

We are taking almost the same route from Richmond and expect to get to Fontana around 5:30PM.

Leaving the Dragon for Thursday morning too.

OK, if everyone that has spare radios would bring theirs with them on Wednesday morning with a full charge it looks like we'll be more than covered for the cruise down. Those of you who don't have a radio can work out borrowing a spare prior to departure.

Even if we end up short, it will only be one or two cars without, so they can just safely follow someone in the party, but we should be well covered. If the situation arises, I can go without one and just follow someone like Steve F. or Jon.
