California Insurance Rate Hike

Ok people, people chime in if you know why CA car insurance rates go up.

Here's my situation. State Farm has raised by premium by around $50. I used to pay $400 every 6 months, but now they want $450.

I'm indignant. I got no accidents on my record. I got no tickets, and so forth. I live in a good neighborhood where I presume car thefts are very low. And it's not a congested area (an area where accidents are highly likely, like a metro area).

I argued with them about it, but they said it's because my car got more expensive to fix. The girl was saying that replacement costs for things such as doors, hoods, etc. costed more in the following year (2014).

Is this rate hike justifiable? Anyone here sell auto insurance in CA? Please let me know. I'm unhappy about this.

I can't comment on California, but did have a conversation with my insurance agent last week about rates and she said that it driven by replacement part costs.

The situation was that I was insuring my new Cherokee - which was only about $2,000 less (new) than my Z was new. Rates for it were around half of what the Z was for the exact same coverage. When I asked why, she explained that because the Z was low production, replacements parts were so much more expensive than for a high production vehicle like the Cherokee.

It's a free market. If you don't like the rates, look elsewhere.

Many companies punish people for their loyalty. Ridiculous right?!

I use Wawanesa by the way, best rates by far!

not to "brag or boast", butt, i pay $202/mo. for my '13 on top of a $600/mo. note---after a $16k trade-in...so, go figure...

It sure is. But when State Farm is lower than those gimmicky, here today & gone tomorrow insurance companies...I don't think I want to shop anywhere else.

I'm just trying to figure out if insurance companies can justify hikes because my car's parts "are more expensive to replace." Someone already stated that, so I guess I'm good.

No he wasn't. All those get-rich hucksters seem to pull in suckers everyday. Rich dad, poor dad...Anthony Robins...the list goes on.

Just IMO, I'm thinking that as the 370z gets older and less expensive, it starts to become more popular with the younger (and likely more reckless) crowd.

Hey, let me piss you off.
$636 year. Non primary vehicle.
I'm getting old and live in the cold.

Just got my renewal offer in the mail. The premiums are exactly the same as last year for each of my cars...
