Garage door guy showed up at 2:30 today. Took him over an hour just to remove the improperly installed springs. In the process he noticed that nearly everything else about the door is shot. The torsion rod and pulley lines are kinked, the pulleys are extremely rusted, a large number of hinges are damaged, the rollers are about to go, the door panels are creased in several locations, etc... (btw the condition of all of these is nearly the same as when I moved in). I couldn't convince my CPA wife to spring $1600+ for an entire new door over the phone, so I just had him do the springs. He got the new ones on just fine and had a successful first test up and back down. He comes back with some spray lube for the springs, hinges, and rollers. Second and final test and the motor craps out. After looking at it for another 30 minutes, he says it cannot be repaired. After showing my wife all of these worn parts, she is convinced we need an entire new door. So we just paid $250+ for springs that are going to be replaced when the new door gets installed :ugh2:

But on the bright side, I'm getting a new, insulated garage door that will be properly installed :happydance:

A new motor (super silent bat cave style) is going to be installed tomorrow morning, so we can actually use the garage door again. New door will follow shortly after we figure out the details :excited:

Oh and disc golf was rescheduled to tomorrow at lunch time after the motor install

Since the Christmas talk has come up, shall we do the card list again? Or would you all be down for a secret santa via Elfster.com?

wat radio do you use? Im still running an old JRPropo FM radio..and have like 8-9 receivers.

i should start looking at the futaba 2.4GHz...

kenchan 10-16-2014 09:23 PM

this is the one i will get if migrating to 2.4Ghz

Futaba 4PKS-R 4-Channel 2.4GHz Computer System

considering i have two R1 radios that futaba is a natural choice.

$550 or something comes with 2 battery packs and one receiver. the receiver runs about 100 a pop, so i would get the radio and 9 receivers. :D

and the best part is that i'll only use it for bashing around the house. LOL
