Tony Stewart Runs over Driver

Hey guys,

I heard about this on the news this morning and did not see it posted yet. Be warned the video in it is graphic but it doesnt look good for Tony Stewart.

Video: Tony Stewart Runs Over Driver During Confrontation, Killing Him

Roddy1 08-11-2014 01:43 PM

Wow this looks unbeleivable. Just read in the news paper at lunch and just watched video. I cant see all of the details, but I mean walking out onto the track and pointing a finger doesnt seem logical he kind of put him self directly in harms way.

It's too early to make any jokes so I will refrain, but on a serious note all I can say is that everyone says that the lights were poor and he may not have seen him, also the fact that the driver killed thought he could settle this on a track that was active with drivers was just as much his fault and could have been anyone else that hit him as well, we will see what goes on...sorry to the family of the deceased

it's a sad story indeed...

Doing what this man did out of anger is pure madness, however I am not a fan of Tony Stewart at all nor do I like his antiqs. To me he is the definition of a scumbag in modern society, he could have pressed the brakes instead of gunning the turn.

Never liked Tony Stewart either, as he is typically the one making a scene during a race. Unfortunately though, this case will probably never make it to court. The younger driver got out of his car and was clearly looking for trouble, and that's what he got. I doubt Stewart even saw him, there's really no visibility to the right side of the car with the wing, and the other driver had a black race suit during a night race. Now you add all the dirt and rubber plastered to the windscreen...

Unfortunate for that family but what that kid did was stupid and reckless.

Not too family with Tony Stewart but I agree, he should have been working the brake pedal not the gas pedal around that track given the situation

Winged sprint cars have horrible visibility, the hood hangs low in the front, the right side is about 75% blocked by the wing, add in a cage, helmet and harnesses with no spotters/radio to crew. Combine that with a poorly lit slick dirt track , a driver in all black, standing in the race line, and cars driving under caution (35-40mph) and other cars in front of him 2 of which almost hit him them selves. The #45 car driver who was right in front of Stewart already came forward saying that he barely saw him at the last second since his view was blocked by another car as well. Sprint cars steer very poorly with the steering wheel and mostly turn/rotate with the throttle, this also explains why Stewart hit the gas to rotate it to go left but Ward was too close and was caught by a tire. Drivers are all told at the driver meetings to stay in the car until the safety crew arrives and this is a perfect reason why, no one can see you out there until its too late. Sad day in the racing world. Stewart may be old school stubborn on the track but you will be hard pressed to find a bigger humanitarian in the racing world. The amount of giving he does that he gets credit for is amazing, the amount he does that goes unpublished is staggering, Vets, kids, animals, he spreads his wealth.

A couple of little unknown facts about Stewart and racing Sprint cars, he doesn't cash the winners checks if he wins, instead he donates them to the track or a special group in the area for kids, animals, women's shelters. if Stewart wrecks and damages another drivers car he pays for the repair work and parts so they can get it fixed and ready for their next race.

Here are a couple of the pics of what the driver has blocking his view, added with all the other things it's a no brainer not to get out on a live track. BTW not the first time this has happened, just making the news since Stewart is a high profile driver. Imagine a deer coming at you when you're driving next time and how little time your really have to react. As usual people in the media who have no idea what they are talking about should really stick to the facts these days vs their opinions.

Drivers view looking out the front.

Only your standard press release, he can't really say anything with details with an on going investigation. He won't really be saying much about it to the public anyways, Lawyers would have a field day trying to trip him up to say the wrong thing. He did skip this weekends Cup race, cancelled racing Sprint cars this week and may miss more cup races this year. I can't say I blame him if he misses the rest of the year, racing at Cup level takes total concentration and with all this going on it's gotta be messing with his focus.

His only statement.

“There aren’t words to describe the sadness I feel about the accident that took the life of Kevin Ward Jr. It’s a very emotional time for all involved, and it is the reason I’ve decided not to participate in today’s race at Watkins Glen. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and everyone affected by this tragedy.”

So now that I've finally seen the video, clearly not Stewarts fault. Dude ran into the racing line, Stewart was already slowing and he clearly tried to miss him.

Ward was completely at fault for his own death. Sad, but he made a mistake.
