Xbox posistion?

Well it's always big with XBOX fans, what way do you keep your XBOX and why?

I've had mine vertical until I got a RROD but my Xbox was 3 years old I believe. What way is better I've had my elite sense 3/13/9 and I've had it vertical should I keep horz?

AK370Z 09-07-2009 12:31 AM

I don't think keeping your xbox vertical or horizontal have anything to do with RROD. I keep mine horizontal.

StLRedrider 09-07-2009 12:32 AM

k20z3 09-07-2009 12:33 AM

RROD, sucks but I've been reading and I called MS as well as other people they said there is no wrong or right way to put it, but then again spending 400 bucks for an elite would suck if it gets RROD.

I keep Vertical because it looks better and I feel better airflow... but then again MS says either way works... hmm

TARDCORE 09-07-2009 12:37 AM

I have gone through 2 XBOX's. one was a a RROD and the other kept giving me one red light even when they repaired it so they replaced it. all mine sit vertical. I know what you dont want to do it is move while it is reading a disc or spinning once because apparently that will mess it up some how according to Microsoft. My cuurent one has already given me problems I hate microsoft

phelan 09-07-2009 12:38 AM

i have a 1st gen xbox 360. keep it horizontal, and piled on top of my subwoofer, and there's a whole bunch of clutter around me. only one RROD since i got it. not bad, eh?

granted...any RROD should be ridiculous with new tech like an XBOX 360...bleh.

ODST coming out soon! :excited:

So do you think I should be fine VERT

BanningZ 09-07-2009 01:07 AM

I have my PS3 sitting horizontal, but that's because I have an intercooler on it.

9 processors get hot, and they need their airflow.

k20z3 09-07-2009 01:17 AM

True, how are you banning hope all is well.

I have mine vertical as of now I have the RE5 version Xbox

MC 09-07-2009 03:49 AM

im on my 3rd 360. never had the RROD in either of the 2 that broke just freezing in games then different color pixelizations but never any red lights on the unit. took it back to gamestop a few years back and they swapped me out a refurbrished one for free. kept that one 9 days and it broke. took it back and they gave me a used one that was traded in and ive had that one ever since

this one has lasted me almost 2 years now ...ive got it horizontal sitting on 4 of those clear raised discs you put under couches so its kind suspended in air about 2 inches. then i got that sitting on top of my home theater receiver.

i got my PS3 horizontal too but its in another room all by itself on a glass shelf

That's a good idea. Seems like it'll yield more ventilation due to suspended in air.

MC 09-07-2009 04:13 AM

yeah well when its horizontal the holes on the bottom side on that white area are covered so i just put 4 of those discs kind of toward the middle so those vents would get a little air rather than being flush sitting on something else. i mean i dunno how much it helps but it cant hurt

I think I have the newest one... so it came out 3/13/09 so do you think it should be fine vertical

alvinmathew88 09-07-2009 11:42 PM

Jasper(Resident Evil Edition, and newer models only and ones with a certain Amperage..) is only way to avoid RROD

Eman 09-07-2009 11:59 PM

I'm on my fourth xbox. 3 RRODs and one time it just froze and never unfroze. I've had it horizontal most of the time, but I've put it vertical as well. I had problems with the tray getting stuck when it was vertical though, so i've left it horizontal ever since. It's been 6 months since my last rrod and I'm getting a bit nervous.

Lyndo 09-08-2009 12:35 AM

wow this thread scares me lol glad i didn't get a 360...ps3 ftw lol (not intending to start a flame war or debate so don't f'in try, i respect the 360 and the people who have them)

FuszNissan 09-08-2009 04:00 AM

Jasper heatsink will help avoid the RROD, but I put in 2 XCM fans to cool the CPU and GPU. Also I have upgraded my fans that blow the air out and it has about 10 different variable speeds. Also, I added 2 thermometers to the GPU and CPU with an LCD readout to monitor the temps so the RROD won't happen again

alvinmathew88 09-08-2009 10:58 AM

Lol.. Just sink the whole thing in Liquid Nitrogen... you wont ever have a problem =P

X2 it has to deal with the something over heating and it would do it either way. Some of the RROD where from using it online. I have mine for sale and vertical. :p

xiven 09-08-2009 04:18 PM

i have mine standing up and its been running fine for a few years now

It is the GPU that is over heating. I do like the old fashion missionary style

k20z3 09-08-2009 11:51 PM

Well it is 9 but you are correct in that only 6 of the SPE's are accessible to game developers. One big one and 8 bitty ones :D

I have gone through 5 xbox 360 (thank god for best buy warranty) but after the warranty ended I just open mines up and fix it myself, but yea doesn't matter which way you put it it comes down to luck, which I didn't have much of.
