I knew a few folks in my life who went out that way. Junkies get clean, decide they want to go back out, shoot up with their pre-rehab dose levels and die.

I still remember 20+ years ago when one of my buddies try to get me into smoking and I said "No" to him for like 60 times in 5 minutes...

I had a hard time with that "saying no" thing earlier in my life.

I count myself as one of the lucky and blessed ones who made it out of active addiction alive. Hoffman had many years clean and sober and that scares the crap out of me.

It serves as a reminder that addiction is very, very patient. For those who get clean and sober, it waits for us. Like a tiger sleeping at the foot of the bed. It does not take much carelessness to awaken it.

I smoked 1 1/2 packs per day 'til I was 25. Woke up one day, lit one up..it tasted like sh't and I quit cold turkey on that very same morning. :tiphat:

my dad was a junkie, and an alcoholic for a long time.. but he has been clean 16 years..
