I've heard that, and that it's on-road manners suck. That is part of why I like the GJC idea so much. 360hp nearly, 19mpg, NAV, leather, blah blah blah for $20K in a 2009 Overland or Limited, and the 5.7L Hemi is a good motor and the transmission is a Mercedes product. Have not heard anything bad about it.

What kind of SUV should I trade my 370Z for?

Right now, I am looking at a 2009/2010 Grand Jeep Cherokee Overland/Limited V8, 4WD.

I want to spend around $20K, give/take a few.

Suggestions?

1972 Ford Bronco.

You'll get the most vehicle for the money with a used full size American truck. The way they depreciate, $20k is plenty for a well-optioned one.

Why bother when I can use the money for downpayment on a house and I get a great interest rate on a vehicle? Besides, you're just butthurt because you're stick in this dump ;)

This is part of why the Chrysler appealed. Great reviews on every 3rd party site (Edmunds, etc.) and they drop like a rock in value for the first 2-3 years and then level off.

I'm on board with every part of that but the Chrysler part. :rofl2:

If I were buying something like what you described, I'd pick up the lowest mile F150 4x4 I could find and run it into the ground.

Chrysler does a good job with the Jeeps in my experience.

I think I'm on like Jeep #5, taken all but the 2 most recent well past 300K. The new ones are still to be tested but all seems well so far.

The Cherokees I've seen last forever, the Grand Cherokees not so much. You couldn't kill that 4.0.

alcheng 12-18-2013 01:13 PM

OP, so you think Chevrolet/domestic is more reliable than Japanese brand...?? :wtf2:

LunaZ 12-18-2013 01:14 PM

Jeeps are Chrysler products and that's enough for me to steer clear of them.
Unless you like replacing transmissions.

In my experience, definitely. The buttons and switches on the interior may not be the best, but the brakes, transmission, and engine (the expensive **** that really matters) are far superior in my domestics vs. my Nissan or Infiniti products.

Whether renting or buying, I won't be doing it in LA forever, and I think that's the point. :tiphat:
