I can't afford to pay the Palm Sisters for the party in my pants. No happy ending here....

One thing that is true you can never make enough. But you can be happy with just the minimum.

Very true, there's a good documentary on Netflix called "Happy" that talks all about money vs happiness.

edk370 10-04-2013 02:48 PM

My friend works at Fletcher Jones Mercedes in Newport Beach, CA (this is an affluent area if you're unfamiliar with S California). He's been there since the mid 90s. He was originally a car salesman, then a finance and insurance guy, and now a GM there.

This is how he breaks it down, while pulling no punches. When he was a sales man (he started off at the Porsche store, and it was called Newport Beach Import group back then) in the mid to late 90s, he said that wannabes (those who make working-class money i.e. sub $100k/yr., but probably a lot less than that) buy either used Porsches or sparsely optioned Boxsters. But almost always, it's the Boxster that they buy; this is when Boxsters were first introduced. No offense to those to switched from 370 to Boxster or Caymann.

He said the real ballers, those who buy the 911s, on average made well over 1/2 a mill per year. This was the mid to late 90s mind you. And, he said that it's not unusual to come across people who make more than 1 mill a year.

911 drivers, usually got chedda. Boxster and Caymann guys can either be "enthusiasts" who think these models got more character than the 911, or working class guys who want something with more badge-appeal than a Nissan.

I don't mean to offend anyone on here, if I rubbed you the wrong way.

i think phil collins drove an old gremlin and did his own oil change while he was a superstar.

JARblue 10-04-2013 03:03 PM

Is this household income or me personally? My wife's an accountant and makes almost double my salary. However, I drive the Z as my daily and I work for myself. You can't tell me I'm not happy :happydance:

If that's true that's awesome!

My wife runs my house she takes care of the bills and budgets. My Z build is one of them and I know you guys may be surprised but the Z is the last thing that I worry about. Even before I purchased it I made sure that my family had a house, car, and a few luxuries. Before I ever purchased the Z. Even today I get $20 every pay day for whatever I may want. Everyone trips out on that. But I don't drink or party so I really don't need any money. But through our sacrifices over the years we've been able to obtain a comfortable lifestyle.

In some areas you can make 100K and be very middle class, in other areas you can make a 100K and be rich. Polls like this are subjective plus I have found from doing these most people lie about what they make.

If I could do it over that's what I'd do. Not much money but you get things you can't buy with money. The satisfaction of saving a life or a lifetime's memories. Time ... You work 48 hours and get 4 days off (or something like that) The rest of us wage slaves work our 40-60 hours a week with 2 days off and a three week vacation if we're lucky. Firefighters and teachers get time. That's a priceless commodity.

My uncle is a captain for LA Fire Dept. He works 10 days (24 hr shifts) a month. He makes 120k a year at 47. Started when he was in late 20's or something. He will retire in 5 years and will be making 120k till the day he dies.

Ill take it... :ugh2:

This much.

Seriously though, how much one makes is only a piece of it. If they make a ton but still have debts and bills to pay, it's a wash and does not mean much. Gotta go deeper than what one makes. Look at your savings rate, cash flow, investments, debt, life expectancy, etc. I laughed when I read the post.

rich bastards

zguynate 10-04-2013 08:05 PM

I make $52k a year and live in west TN. That's pretty good money here. My wife and I make right at $100k a year and we live pretty comfortably. That's mid to upper middle class here lol. If you make over $300k, you are a baller lol.

BrianMSmith 10-04-2013 10:57 PM

I make mid 100's plus another +25% in benefits and the best 401k and pension program in the world, but it took a degree in engineering at a top nationally ranked school, and 20 years of experience, hard work to get there, I've probably spent 3 years on business travel, some of which is great, most of which is not. Most of the time, frankly, my compensation seems like much too little, less than I deserve, considering executives make over 100X more than me. I work for one of the world's most significant businesses and industries. Good luck all.

ZeroZeta 10-04-2013 11:06 PM

I'm currently considering picking up a second job just to fund the mods I want for my car. It will be totally worth it.:driving:

Well now that Silk Road got shut down, I guess I should change my vote. Back to the street corner.

Side not: What does this have to do with 370Z general discussion, shouldn't this be in off-topic?

Yep. My income is below the $30K bottom of the poll. But I'm retired, my house is paid for, my Z is paid for, my debt is zero, and I have some good investments. If you look at just my income, I'm pretty freaking poor. If you look at the big picture, I'm doing pretty good.

Dzel 10-05-2013 09:30 AM

That's awesome South.

On a brighter note my stock just hit $200 a share! I'm getting a little over $1,000 bucks for doing nothing. I'm calling Charles Schwab and in going to see if I can sell half my stock and retain the rest.

Y'all make toilet papers?

Seriously, toilet paper is important. I know I take at least 1 dump per day.

That is the way to do it man! You are far richer and fulfilled compared to the rest of us! That should be everyone goals once reaching retirement. I hope God willing give me 25 fruitful/blessed years more before I retire!
