so i just saw it. here's the deal i know from the trailers your thinking oh god its horrible and nothing like the GI JOE of my childhood. its directed by the dude who did mummy and van helsing..we screwed..... but if you leave those fan boy expectations that its gotta be exactly like the cartoon at home your gonna be pleasantly surprised. I was...

first of all yes its a reimagining of alot of the chracters of a 25 year old franchise some more than others...Cobra Commander is very different no slithering voice and hood and an actual back story... but all i will say is toward the end there are glimmers of hope of him becoming the leader weve all grown up with. the movie is called rise of Cobra for a reason...... it leaves you with thinking ok now we got the origin out of the way lets get to the sequel with Cobra really ******* the world up.

snake eyes and storm shadow are actually very close to perfect in the movie

overall the main themes are all there. lavish hideouts and bases all over the world... over complicated plots to take over that world ,lasers, vehicles on land sea air its all there. on the other hand the special effects are uneven at best and the self awareness that its a popcorn summer movie its very apparent.

bottom line i grew up on GI JOE and if you would have told me at 8 years old there would have been a live action movie one day i would have cried tears of joy . well the day is here and while its not exactly what my 8 year old self would have imagined its a sincere attempt with the best of intentions. michael bay you should be ashamed of your self for ruing transformers with horrible plots side characters and middle school toliet humor. GI JOE is the clear winner here in the battle of of the cartoons that made you buy the toys movies of your youth.

and knowing is half the battle thanks for the review without spoilers. I was worried that it would suck but still plan to see it anyway. I think where transformers failed(i havent seen the 2nd one yet) is that at least in the first one they tried to much to stick to the cartoons humor at least most of Optimus primes lines are things he would say in the cartoon especially that speech he gives at the end. Now at 29 it comes off corny in today's world.

I can't wait to see this movie. I loved GI Joe as a little guy. I'm sure I'll like it but I liked Transformers too, which some here seem to not like at all.

Nice review, you have actually given me some hope for this movie. I saw Marlon Wayans and a cheesy trailer and was kind of let down in the beginning.
Maybe I'll go see it tomorrow.

I had seen this one..great movie! i highly recommended this one for everyone!!

Yup the movie was pretty badass enjoyed every minute.

For me it wasn't as bad as the transformer movies. But there was nothing really that made me say "oh wow, that was tight". It was kind of bland. The CGI on some of the scenes were just too cartoonish. Acting was ok, over all i'll give it a 2 out of five, maybe 2 and half.

I know it based on a damn 80's cartoon, but they didn't have to make it so cornie like it was a 80's movie if you know what i mean.

A good writer and a director can make a movie that will appeal to kids and adults alike but w/o having so many some what dull scenes and sometimes to many cornie jokes or scenes.

Finally saw it yesterday was alright. Can't say it was great I think the sequel will be better. It was alot of backstory and getting you re-connected with the characters as they are portrayed in the movie. It wasn't one hundred percent faithful to the show i'd say it was about 85% alot of stories changed. The flashbacks where good though I like how they did that.

I'd give it 3 out of 5. If it didnt have GI joe badging on it would I go see the movie mmm porbably not but I would get it on dvd/blu-ray
