the nikkor 50 f/1.8 is $129: Nikon | Normal AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens | 2137 | B&H

as i said earlier, nikon glass is usually a little bit more expensive for the comparable thing in canon but i will say that from what i've seen, nikon glass is better on the low end (such as these thrifty fifty's) than canon's stuff, but L-glass makes up for it:tup:

I'm looking at picking up my first DSLR in about a week or so... I'd like to go with the Canon XSi but the wife is limiting me money-wise.

How is the Rebel XS in your guy's opinion? It's more in the range of what she's letting me spend. I checked out the Nikon D40 (or 40D, can't remember) but didn't like the fact that it doesn't come with auto focus (and I don't have the money right now to buy another lens).

imo, the D40 is a very limiting camera and should avoided unless the buyer intends to only use it as it is and not intend to buy more glass down the road. the XS and XSi however can use all of canon's lenses (with AF) which is nice, plus they are kitting them with the 18-55 IS lens which isn't a bad thing either. it's not the best lens in the world but it's not bad either

+1 for canons

bboypuertoroc 07-22-2009 02:25 PM

So pretty much the XS kit is worth the ~$500 then?

HKYStormFront 07-22-2009 05:58 PM

yes

if ur getting a starter camera ive been doing alot of research for the pass 2 days now none stop and it seems the canon t1i is best for the beginners. for mid range the d90 is ahead by alittle. and for the professional i didnt bother researching cause i dont have 3-5 g to spend on a camera

bboypuertoroc 07-23-2009 02:40 AM

I don't have that kind of money for the T1i... but it seems bad-***. Love the HD capabilities.

I hate using my credit card... only thing I use it for is Xbox LIVE (once a year) and my monthly Vonage and Netflix bills (so I can always be using it/paying it off monthly for good credit reasons).

If I don't have the spare cash to pay for something in whole, I won't buy it.

smurfblu13 07-23-2009 03:27 AM

^^ Completely agree..

Back on topic though I really enjoy Nikon, I always have, I have two of them. Neither of them are digital though.
