awesome.

you can get the bypass module and your wife can run apps while you're driving.

btw, i recommend checking if the HU can do multiple tasks..meaning, when we run apps like waze (?) or my google nav off my phone, i am limited to using only that function to sound through the car speakers. i cant listen to mp3's/radio while using other applications on my 2500BT or 4500BT. :) not that it matters to me cause i dont use nav all that much, plus my Z has a nuvi.

Yeah... I'm pretty much stuck with the AVIC or one of the Chinese knock-offs touchscreens running Android 4.0. Not ready to dump $1K on the AVIC and not ready to risk the reliability of the knock-off for $300 :ugh2:

Pintsize725 04-09-2013 02:55 PM

JAR, got any contacts that you know of for the wheel repair? I think I might just get fix it and then get them powdercoated.

Waze is much more than nav. I don't even use it for nav. I use it to report (and see others reports) of hazards on the road, accidents, and popo sitting along side the roads. It's quite amazing.

It's available for Android too.

Waze for Android.

Pintsize725 04-09-2013 03:11 PM

So, wrap place is taking off the vinyl that was put on one piece. BUT parts of the finish are coming off with the adhesive. There's no clean solution for this other than to let them remove it, sand down what they can and then I can either paint or plasti-dip with pearlizer.

thanks. the issue is i think i need to plug in the HDMI cable too with the droid which is kind of a pita. i like to keep my phone in my pocket as much as possible, and only pull out when i need nav feature. :)

that sounds about right, ms. pint. after they sand it down, you can re-prime it and sand smooth, then apply your paint or vinyl or plasti-dip. :)

I'm going to try plasti-dip with pearlizer first I guess. I guess Alcheng was right. :shakes head:

Ah, makes sense then.

I always take mine out of my pocket (bugs me when driving) and set it in the cup holder, or lay it in front of the gear shift (over the hazard/SRM buttons).

yep. i dont wear tight cloths so this is no issue for me. but also remember that if you get into an accident, that phone is going to fly somewhere potentially out of reach when you most need it. :ugh2:

so far ive not had a case where my pants flew out the window while getting hit by someone so im safe! :wtf2:

That's true, I think about it each time I do it, but my iPhone is also my iPod/music and I must use an aux. cable until I get a bluetooth HU.

What if I told you I drove pantless? It makes me feel more... free... :rofl2:

I haven't lost my pants (yet) in an accident either. However, that would be a spectacular story: "Sir, where are your pants?" *points up to a nearby tree* :icon17:

I can't think of the one that's recommended by guy's on the forum, but it's a nationwide mobile operation, and I know there's a guy in Austin. I looked it up a long time ago, but I have no idea what the company name is anymore.

No necessarily apps, but I absolutely want GPS to display on the head unit (whether built-in or app or whatever - I'd rather not use my phone but not a deal breaker), and I absolutely want music or movie to continue playing while utilizing the GPS (multi-tasking).

So no black? Or is the pearlizer used with black plastidip, too? I have Krylon Fusion Satin Black can ready and waiting.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of having to plug my phone into my car - I pretty much only plug it in when it needs charging. But that being said, it's not a deal breaker if I can plug it in an get lots more features/ability out of the HU.

Was thinking black dip + pearlizer for the added protection it would give me. It's worth a try to see what it would look like first and easily removed if I want to just paint it. If you really want a DIY project to get your hands dirty, just let me know lol. I can get the lip piece back tomorrow and come over.

This week is no good. Gotta work later in the evenings so I can leave town Friday. I was just saying I have the materials already. But you're probably right: plastidip first, then paint if not acceptable.

:)
