Riding it hard

On my way to work today, i usually go at it in this little 1.7 mile section which has some twisties on it. It got me thinking, for being a relatively new car i ride it hard, i mean i use it. Now I don't track my cars anymore since my accident in 2001 6 hour endurance race back home, but none the less. So i got to remembering that any car i have ever owned I usually drive the hell out of them. And I KNOW I am not alone in this, probably every member in here does the same to theirs. after all its a sportscar drive it like one.

So here is the thought. Do you think people like us can own very exotic cars? I mean think about it, you buy a for example F430 Scuderia as a daily driver, would you take care of it because its a 250k car, or also drive the hell out of it, to the point that in 3 years everything in the car rattles? Would you do the same if say you manage to obtain a Mclaren F1?

I think I am hard wired to do such a thing, which is really scary to know that if I owned such a car, it would show very soon its being driven hardcore, and probably depreciate rapidly.

anyways just a thought.

The rule of thumb is if the horsepower is there YOU WILL USE IT.

I buy fast cars to go fast. Looks are a bonus.

People who buy exotics to show off their income are morons. If you got it, beat it.

I agree somewhat. Even if you have the means to drop on say a Ferrari for examples sake, high end exotics do not like miles, I forget the exact mileage but at that point car goes back to Ferrari they pull the whole engine do all the necessary work on it and send it back. All at a price tag that I'm sure would make most people think twice DD'ing a car like that. They should absolutely be taken out and driven like they were meant to, but maybe at a less than daily occurrence.

A Ferrari and the like is really status symbol if you ask me. And no, I ain't hatin' cuz you drive a Ferrari and I don't. I highly doubt most of the people who can afford them are avid drivers who could even drift around a corner.

I remember certain Ferrari models, I think the F50 and F40 had a stipulation that you had to have owned a Ferrari(s) prior to purchasing this one. In other words, you had to have experience w/ high performance, high end cars prior to buying this model regardless of how rich you were. I guess Ferrari wanted to ensure that owners didn't smash them so that they'd exist for a long time.

Here's why:

I have to say, I've been out of practice for the classic... well, not so classic but rather popular "The Office" joke.
Didn't see it till you mentioned it, lol

arcticreaver 07-16-2009 01:08 AM

the Office jokes are seriously hilarious.

back to the topic - i know that most of my rich friends get high end sports cars JUST to show off. they can't drive if their lives depended on signaling and braking.

that and they don't know jack towards cards and just get them because it's the "thang" to do when you are rich.
