Meeting People on Craigslist

I sold my motorcycle jacket to some guy on Craigslist the other day. At first he wanted me to meet at his house cause he don't have a car ..only his motorcycle and its too cold to ride out. Then I told him I would meet at his job (he told me where he worked) then he says he's off. So I told him if he really wants the jacket..Meet me at Quick trip. So he agrees. We'll when I met him with my brother...the dude looks like he got out of jail..older..bald..earrings..tattoo or something..but he was really friendly.. can't judge a book by its cover right? Anyways he bought the jacket and left. The next day he texts me saying thanks for the jacket and asked when I'm getting a motorcycle...then he tells me his name again then asks if I drink and that I should save his number so we go to the bar sometime? :confused:I posted in the for sale section...not the meeting. Anyways my wife thinks I'm being a A-hole by not wanting to talk to him.

Am I wrong here?!

Sorry excuse my grammar.

thats just creepy man. every person ive sold things to on craigslist seem very sketchy. just take someone with you whenever you meet them. i never had anyone contact me once ive sold them something, but if they did and they were asking to hangout i definatly wouldnt.

FairladyZ 01-24-2013 09:25 AM

Are you wrong? No

Craigslist is sketchy, people request stupid ways of paying, stupid locations of meeting, and a lot of bull ****.

I'm careful with who I hang out with too, I don't like grabbing beers with strangers lolm

My wife thinks he just wants to find a person to go riding with him. Even that..That's weird asking some one on Craigslist. plus I don't even have a bike right now...then tells me to save his number and go to the bar? lol

Never met someone that wanted to hang out after but I have met a few people that work at dealerships or have they're own house (with a garage) and they offer to help me install anything on my car at they're place or to use they're lift at their work. Mostly because I'd be selling car parts and we always go off on our installs and all that.

Are you wrong? No. But the guy probably is just looking to find a little bike crew most likely.

I sold an intake manifold for the DE engine to a guy with a VQDE swap in his s13 and that night was a local meet up at our city so we ended up getting together with a bunch of other people and just cruised for a few hours. Not as 1 on 1 as the dude you met up with but eh, i try not to seem to standoffish.

You're not wrong. I don't want to start personal relationships when I sell items on CL. I just want to conduct the transaction and move on with my life!

last month on the news some guy was selling his car on Craigslist...met up with the guy by himself at the some location in the city..the guy ended up getting shot twice in the head and then ran over. Police found the guy and the car parked in front of his house??!

That's why Ididn't go to this guy house..it could be a set up address?

m4a1mustang 01-24-2013 09:47 AM

It could easily be a set up. Always have to be careful. I'm always armed and try to do a little background work on potential CL buyers (I only communicate by e-mail).

^This too. Always be cautious. I always try to have someone with me no matter where we're meeting up. I try to avoid meeting up at his personal home and mine. Just find it a bit weird someone out there knowing the exact location to my home.

Apparently "motorcycle jacket" is code for "ghey relationship".

Kidding :D

lol thought he was going to invite me to ride on the back of his motorcycle :)

:iagree:

If I were you I would erase his phone number, and move out of state.

He must of really liked the scent you left on that jacket :rofl2:

But seriously hell no I would not hang out with someone I sold an item to on CL nor grab a beer with them. This isn't love connection.

One last thing....

You must not have learned anything from the CL Cinder Block ad.

From now on that is how I post For Sale ads.

It would have helped you out in this predicament as well. As this guy would know there will be no funny business on the side. As you do not want to help him put on said jacket. You dont want to take pictures with him wearing it on whatever the hell kind of bike he has. And you don't want to become bros and grab beers. Simply buy jacket, enjoy jacket, don't ever contact me again. If you cannot comply then you don't need this jacket!
