yeah i know, im feeling the same way.

I understand he was a great artist and all, but he wasnt as great as people are making him. hell, I'm even deaf, so I care even less than an average person would anyhow which makes this more annoying for me.

wstar 07-08-2009 08:16 AM

The major news companies have never really cared about delivering relevant and insightful news, they care about profit, and this type of reporting is what their board has decided makes the most profit. Luckily there are good reporters and columnists out there covering the real stuff, and these companies also employ those guys and give them an outlet, they just don't make the front page very often anymore.

Celcius 07-08-2009 11:35 AM

Less Michael Jackson, more history of toilet paper.

I disagree. <old man voice on> "Back in my day....."

Seriously, there used to be an implied public trust and standard that most of the mainstream media held themselves to. That's gone for the most part unless you listen to something like NPR. I blame Dan Rather and Jerry Springer!

bigaudiofanat 07-08-2009 11:50 AM

nogoodname 07-08-2009 11:51 AM

Well, I would agree the media was more trustable in the past, but I don't think it was altruistic. I think the public cared more about getting real news back then, and so it made profit sense for them to be that way at the time. It's the change in the public attitude that drives the change in the media, in other words.

Gotta love u.s.
I know he was a big icon in pop and stuff but why can't we just move on?
It's not like most of us knew him that close...
We should focus on important things.

370Z Purist 07-09-2009 02:35 AM

If we had been making useful progress, we'd already be living on some solar system hundreds of thousands of miles away. Progress is just gradual to begin with; things like these are just what the public wants.

smurfblu13 07-09-2009 02:38 AM

I'm sorry this sounds insensitive, but MJ dying is old news.. get over it all ready. I know it's all for ratings but come on, yes he was a pop icon, and yes he was talented, but I'm sorry he's gone so lets move on.

370Z Purist 07-09-2009 02:46 AM

Tell that to the public. The blacks will say you're racist, the whites will say you're insensitive (dear god, please... ugh), the fans will say you're a fag (they're fanboys, what do you expect), and the people who are making money off it say shove off, we're rolling in dough; so however you put it, it will be on the news the better part of two weeks to a month.

Aight I see where you're coming from.. but if I get pegged as a racist for that comment or a fag, i agree maybe a little insensitive but oh well. I would be a little confused and frankly let down. Not trying to flame you or start an argument, but I would be let down if thats what people thought overall. Mainly because I am not guilty of either besides maybe slightly insensitive.

370Z Purist 07-09-2009 03:08 AM

No, actually I do agree with you. While MJ's death is a death of a pop icon that did indeed break many racial barriers, people are overshadowing more significant deaths as well, like the ones serving our country and fighting for our rights and privileges (which many people still don't deserve). In fact this whole thread is about MJ just getting too much unnecessary coverage while there are more significant things going on now.

Agreed completely! To me, the men and women serving our country are number 1, i have a few friends currently in other countries and ones that have done their tours. I couldn't imagine being there, and am thankful everyday for them.

Again end rant/ back on topic, sorry everyone

370Z Purist 07-09-2009 03:20 AM

Eh, this is the lounge, and we're mostly on topic. It doesn't really matter much.

That may be so, but I'm still gonna beat the living crab out of Dan Rather and Jerry Springer if I meet them in a dark ally!!!!

It gets even better. CNN's running a story that combines Michael Jackson with some Psychic/Numerologist fraudster, with no mention of how she and everyone like her are complete ********: Psychics see magic in Michael Jackson's life - CNN.com

I would love to hear about the Marine that was kidnapped in Afghanistan a few days ago that got absolutely NO coverage whatsoever.
A good friend is going to Afghanistan in November and he said that he and many marines are pissed that this got no coverage.

Like how is this Marine doing? Are we making efforts to retrieve him? What are the conditions he is being held in?
