Aquariums

How many of you guys keep aquariums?

My girlfriend and I recently set up a freshwater tropical 20 gallon tank with live plants. Just have a few fish in there right now but will probably add some more this week.

azn370z 07-05-2009 08:54 PM

Did you complete the nitrogen nitrate cycle?

m4a1mustang 07-05-2009 08:57 PM

Yeah, it's all good to go.

StLRedrider 07-05-2009 08:57 PM

I had jack demseys and oscars when I was a kid. A couple years ago I got a beta and a bowl, then came a nano tank, 10 gallon, and a 75 gallon. I had freshwater and saltwater tanks. The very first fish I got finally died a few months ago and my last tank was taken down. Good luck.

I had a 75 gallon salt water tank with 75 lbs. of live rock. I moved it once and that sucked. It came time to move again and the tank was sold. They are a real PITA.

m4a1mustang 07-05-2009 10:17 PM

My fish are still getting used to their new home.

smurfblu13 07-06-2009 02:17 AM

A few years ago I had a couple. My last tank had all live plants and a bunch of cichlids. That was a fun tank but just had to be careful how many fish you put in it since they tend to fight if there's too many, very territorial. When I move into my new apt I hope to set up a new one as well.

I have a 36 gallon corner bowfront tank set up since Feb.09. Five fish, Red Peacock, Cobalt Peacock, Yellow African Cichlid, Red Tail Shark, and a Convict Cichlid.

Jordan777er 07-06-2009 02:15 PM

I used to keep a tank, but I got rid of it since my Oscars kept uprooting my plants and eating the other fish. I got tired of fishing out dead bodies every month.

NIZMOZ 07-06-2009 03:52 PM

Had one for 10 years myself, a 75 Gal. Decided it was time to let it go as I was out of time to keep it going really. It was fun while it lasted but got old kinda quick.

My office tanks

7 Attachment(s)
My 1fter shrimp tank is about 2yrs old matured with Anubias, Java ferns, and newly added flame moss on driftwood sticks only. However, I will be removing the front Java fern to add some hairgrass. It's occupants are Crystal red shrimps, cherry red shrimps and Amano shrimps.

My 2fter is a work in progress, however I've started the foreground off with some Hemianthus callitrichoides "Cuba" grown emersed first while my moss supplier is harvesting some new moss called Layer moss. That moss has neat and tidy appearance and will be planted on the driftwoods. As to the background, I'll be trying some Utricularia graminifolia if I can find any, if not it might be glossostigma elatinoides.

And I'll also be scaping my friend's 3ft deep triangle low tech tank... a real challenge trying to scape that one! But I've already prepared 5 nicely shaped driftwood to be tied with java ferns to make it look like a tree, have a moss wall, and some petite anubias at the bass.

Stay tuned! :tiphat:

Nice marine tank!

azn370z 07-17-2009 01:32 AM

Roo, nice tank. Reminds me of when I was interested in aquariums.

huff442 09-06-2009 09:32 PM

I've got a 215g Cichlid tank. Custom drip filtration and automatic water changer. Very simple, but very effective.

I thought my 80gal aquarium was good looking but bster has mine beat. Mine doesn't have a giant badass plant like that. Where'd u get it and how do i get it?

Caravanshaka 09-21-2009 12:30 PM

Bster, what kind of substrate are you using? I really like the moss growing on the driftwood, makes me want to get another tank for the house.

I had a 110g tank setup with 2 largemouth bass for a while. It also at one time held 4 Mountain Horned Dragons (but I had a custom topper built to make it 4ft tall since they like heights).

You've got me tempted to get another 20gal tank or something to keep at the house

Great tanks Roo and Bster

Erm... I'm not entirely sure which plant you're talking about. Individually all the plants are quite small in size. Collectively the image is what you're seeing as a whole.

And I'm from Singapore... so I'm not sure how to help you as well. But you might like to check out this USA aquatic forum.

It's soil from Japan called GEX. Once again I'm from Singapore so the stuff that I can get, might not be available where you guys are..

Thanks!

That's actually the whole point of aquascaping, the plants are the main cast of the show!

I'm actually in the process of doing up my friend's tank as well... so stay tuned for that!

My inspiration from THE MAN, Takashi Amano.
