The cracking is happening under the clear coat, mainly the cause is the base coats and the white color coats, they didn't heat the coats enough or too thick of each layer of coats.

It's workmanship, whoever did the paint job was rushing it therefore the coating starts cracking after one year.

It will be difficult for you to trace down which shop/dealer did the paint job thus difficult to file a warranty claim.

But you will have to get it fix aka repaint the whole hood otherwise the paint gonna crack through the clear coat and the aluminum hood gets corrosion/oxide then you'll be in big trouble.

honey~~~ :p all my good luck for you on this one... :tiphat:

But I usually go there during after 9:30pm, so I can avoid jam-pack and not-so-sexy-women :icon17:

 on the DWs to you Mr.kenchan... another example of Great Mind Thinks alike..

I was thinking about getting another brands since I am using Continental on the Z, but eventually cannot find anything that can beat the DWs...

I am having GoodYear on the Audi now, going to the shop on next Wed to have the DWs installed, looking forward to test them on the snow this Winter.. :happydance:

For me, I don't store the Z officially. Mainly because I just park it inside the garage, I still waterless-wash it once a while, clean the interior, sit in it a make some "vroom vroom" noise :bowrofl: Seriously, I can take it out for a spin during Feb and Mar if the road is dry and clean and clear.

:tup::tup:

sounds good, mr.alcheng. actually my FitS is running DWS (dry wet snow) and my Z's Weds set has the DW (dry wet). :D

yah, definitely going late at night or early am to walmart helps greatly.

hummm... bodyshop doesnt have a paint meter? damn...that is f-ed up. it's like asking a carpenter and he doesn't have a stud finder, and saying something like 'i just go by feel, digital tools are for pansies' :icon14:

Pintsize725 11-30-2012 04:17 PM

Ok, guy came out to get a reading and says it's not repainted but looks like a bad polish job.

kenchan 11-30-2012 04:20 PM

the cracks are under the clear coat....detailer can't penetrate the cracks, so i dont think polishing has anything to do with this.

more like bad paint prep, maybe? contamination in the primer or base paint?

Doesn't rust, like steel with that red/brown rust but it will oxidize and deteriorate the material if it is not taken care of and contaminates get through to the aluminum

They need to use a paint gauge that will work on aluminum.

Measured within spec on the entire hood. Nissan guy says he will enter all the notes into his database so I just have to call Nissan to follow up.

No but I can't call until Monday anyway since they are closed now. I have a big issue with how he's going to word everything. Towards the end of the conversation, he was asking the body shop guy if the original complaint areas could be environmental. And he seemed to be set on thinking the cracks were done by a third party.

:shakes head: this is just me, but if he's really acting like that..... i'd seriously consider finding someone else whom is willing. you know? No Hassle. They would no longer get my money, you provide the service we expect when we buy a frickin car. or else you will NOT get anything but a bad review.

The counter argument will be that I bought the car used and there's no telling what the previous owner did. But these cracks are under the clear coat, my hood is smooth in that area.

I'm really just happy that it finally got looked at and that the test came back negative for repainting.
