I just spent 100 bucks or so at best buy for a cheap mad cat 2 wheel and pedals and really like am enjoying the increased control and more natural control style. I'm tempted to spend a few hundred bucks on a good dim level wheel and some pedals. The paddle shifter is fine for my purposes and I think a manual shifter and clutch would require a dedicated stand up cockpit setup to work.

The wheel has defiantly made it easier for a Xbox racing noob to turn better laps. My feet just "know" how to feather the throttle better than my fingers and forget about trying to manual shift on the controller. With the wheel I don't even think about shifting it just comes naturally.

In other words. I'm loving it all and am amped about horizon.

i actually was half tempted to start searching for like legit racing setup for xbox like steering wheel with paddles, pedals, and everything but knowing me i'd have $500 in it without trying lol

i usually am a monster at racing games but never got into forza 4 too much. i'll probably buy horizon since like i said earlier its a cross between forza nad NFS it feels like.

500 bucks for a good sim setup is about right (I did some prelim research) 250-300 for wheel 100 for pedals 50 for shifter (optional) 300 for a good frame with seat to bolt it all too... (I assume you have video and audio setup already)

1-2000 bucks will get you state of the art sim setup. 300-600 will get you excellent (all metal) force feed back club level setup. 100 gets you the Mad Cat setup that I bought which is not force feedback but good and durable and has included shifter and plastic but functional pedals (no clutch pedal)

Check this as an awesome look at the possible!!!!

i thought the horizon demo was okay. I'm just not sure on the online mechanics.
I hope i can play with just my friends so i can avoid children doing donuts and trying to crash into everyone...that's only fun for so long.

So yesterday I went out and bought an X box 360 with a wireless wheel, and Forza 4. I should have bought a hard drive so I could install the game.

I simply went to Game Stop and said what I wanted and they first asked who this would be for. When I said for me they looked shocked,(They thoght it was for my son or grandkid. Then let me assemble what you want, was his reply.

He'd already asked about wi fi and told him I do not want that. Apparently I bought an older box but the whole deal was $216 taxed.

I talked to a couple younger folks today and they are jealous of me. This is what sucks about life. I don't even like it that much. If at all. I am doing this like going to school to learn various tracks. Fun has yet to be had. Granted I've played 20-30 minutes total.

Real tracks are obviously more fun, although video games give you the chance for epic dikkishness with no real consequences.

But yeah, there's no G-forces, nothing that really pulls you from your seating position.

phelan 10-15-2012 05:58 PM

^ correct. therefore, when you turn hard into a chicane, you must replicate the g-forces by doing a gangster lean in your char.

no exceptions.

I've played racing games consistently since the first Gran Turismo first came out.

People have laughed at me leaning on the couch on more occasions than I can count.

A lot of good info in here, looks like I'll be investing in a wheel as well. I asked in another Forza thread already but I figured I'd as here as well, where can you get the370Z as a Pre-order bonus?

SurfDog 10-16-2012 05:51 PM

If you play a career mode you will have the Z very quickly. You just buy it with game money once you have run a few races. If you are hard up just send me an XBL message and ill gift you a fixed up "A class" 370z. They are not expensive.
