I'm not at all for street racing, but since Detroit is already corrupt and broke, they should build a drag strip and make some money off of it. Not confiscate and auction off vehicles and cash from people that weren't racing. They went a little too far with that one.

They've got to do "something" to "improve" Detroit.

With an unemployment rate of 21.1 % and a murder rate higher than Baghdad ... street racing is the last thing I'd be worried about.

(and no, I don't race. Too old for that crap. And, i'd permanently lose my DEA number).

Hey, hey Baghdad is quite a nice city now, I was just there about a year ago. Much nicer than Detroit.

I don't condone street racing, but having your car confiscated for being a spectator is kind of bullshyt. Arrest the guys racing or selling drugs and take their cars, but taking a regular spectator's car is kind of overkill. Detroit is beyond broke and this probably payed for a few corrupt cop's salaries.

:iagree: Fascism at its best. When it comes to crime, POLICE seem to take the path of least resistance... a shootout can happen in the hood in broad daylight killing 3 people and it takes them 30 minutes to respond. Some cars are racing on backroads... 4 minutes.

The flipside... those racers are idiots for closing down a residential street. I'm sure there are plenty of industrial areas or abandoned airport strips in the city or outskirts to carry out their shenanigans.

Worst case scenario? Give the spectators a ticket for disturbing the peace or something like that?

Yep. I get if folks actually got caught racing or for possession, well, there's laws for that, I get it. But, if they auction off a dozen or two spectator's vehicles, that's just just pathetic.

nightwish 09-16-2012 11:45 PM

Footloose does that mean we aren't going to street race each other??

Xplicit97 09-17-2012 01:56 AM

That's crazy.. But I know in Cali if you get caught they impound and destroy the car.. I wonder what happens if you owe money on the car still?

eastwest2300 09-17-2012 01:56 AM

Damn dude, that sucks...

Footloose301 09-17-2012 06:50 AM

Yeah I understand taking their cars if caught racing, the spectators!!!?? Come on! If you're not using the car and it's just sitting there then that car should not be confiscated. That's really unfair to say least.

Ubetit 09-17-2012 08:00 AM

Sorry, I have no sympathy for criminals.

When's the auction? I like that RS.

Criminals? wtf? It would be like getting your car taken away for a speeding ticket or running a red light. I'd be okay with a fine of some sort, but getting your car taken away would be like getting arrested for watching two people fighting. It doesn't make sense and clearly an abuse of police power.

red6spd 09-17-2012 08:49 AM

Kind of stupid for racing in front of peoples houses. But I bet every car impounded for "spectating" was returned once a lawyer was involved. I very highly doubt that 35-40k Camaro was auctioned off while the kid still made payments because he was watching a race.
