God bless your father.

My dad was in the war too. In Germany. 2 Purple Hearts. Said he was a bullet stopper. :rofl2: My dad would talk about the was at times. After my brother got back from Vietnam. He talked a lot with my brother. They was comparing notes.

My dad was an AN (aviation nose picker as he called it) during Korea. He served on the USS Philippine Sea and the USS Enterprise. He never talks about it much, I suppose it's because he served on a carrier fixing shot up airplanes. I sometimes wonder just what he saw....:ugh2:

Was it CVN-65? Actually it would have been CVA-65 back then. I served on the Big E (CVN-65) too. It is crazy how long she was around. It was possible for 3 generations of a family to have served on her. :icon14:

It was sad seeing her start to be decommissioned but, it was time. :(
Can't wait to see the next Enterprise, CNV-80, be built.

Bought two new ones today at an auction.
Savage Arms 311A Side x Side 12 Ga Shotgun (going to my son for the skeet range)
Norinco SKS paratrooper model. I still need to get an original magazine for it.
I call it "cheap heat".
Looks like I need another safe now.

Thinking on getting one of these in 6.5 Creedmore.

Forget that, get a standard 700 (or something else ) and drop it in a MDT (Modular Driven Technologies) chassis. I plan on putting my Savage 10 FCP-SR in one of their ESS chassis. The ESS is their top tier chassis and has many options making it the most expensive but they have other chassis systems that are cheaper. In the grand scheme of things MDT's chassis are very well priced. Some might say that they are cheap, especially considering most after market chassis systems are $1500+. Another thing about MDT chassis systems is they fit a wide variety of rifle models so you are not limited to 700s like many other systems. Speaking model compatibility, their Savage variants are compatible with both types of Savage bolt releases, top and bottom, in the same chassis. Check out MDT you might be pleasantly surprised. mdttac.com

Savage double barrel:Need a firing pin replacement and a little adjustment to the selector. My kid had it stripped within a 1/2hr of getting it home. I had to make a screwdriver long enough to get the stock off.
The SKS stock is beat but the mechanics and barrel are clean. He stripped that down and cleaned out the old factory grease. Piston was nearly perfect. all numbers match.

I think I got mags for my SKS from Midway, they are polymer. I read somewhere that imported SKS rifles have to have 6-8 (?) US made parts to make them legal. The mag counts as 3... I think... :ugh2:

I am going to look around for some metal ones at the gun show too. I don't need any hi capacity ones. we will make sure it shoots well, fix a crack in the wood , get all the surface rust gone. Not sure if we will reblue it yet or not. It is there to give the kid experience and then we will flip it.

Ghostvette 05-17-2018 10:32 AM

I got a deal on mine, it's a Chinese (I think) one with a Dragonov polymer stock and scope. I got the original wooden stock with it, but had to buy my own mags. Only reason I got it was because I didn't have anything chambered in 7.62 x 39....

We have a Chinese norinco. chrome lined barrel is nice.
There is another police auction coming up with more and the pictures show the savages cut off/down the wooden stocks.
Let me know if you want to sell the wooden stock you have.
We are looking for the bayonet too.
