He still owns in after 20 something years and loves it.

It has shot anything and everything I've put through it, low brass or high brass. Walmart-type light 1100 FPS target loads is what I shoot through it the most. The M2 is inertia-operated for cycling, so I was concerned about the light loads, the way the thing is held, and the weight of attachments on it. However, it cycles fast and reliably with the light loads even with a shell carrier attached and an 11 oz Eotech on the rail. In the occasional stages I've had to shoot from odd positions including left handed, I've had no problems and my son shoots it left handed and it cycles fine for him.

I am planning on buying my first pistol soon since I just turned 21 recently. Any recommendations? I am thinking either a G19 or G23 since I have smaller or hands or possibly an XD. I found a really good deal on a an XD .45 GAP, but I'm just worried that it will be too hard to find ammo for it, so I haven't pulled the trigger yet (see what I did there?). Anyways if you guys can recommend any good range guns for a newer shooter it would be much appreciated.

Find a range that will let you rent pistols, then try several. Make your decision based on how the gun fits your hand, then decide on caliber after shooting it. Most new shooters do better with a 9 than with a .40 or .45. Don't go with an oddball caliber like .45 GAP, it's too hard to find ammo for it. The XDs are nice, I'm not sure but if they have the option to switch calibers by changing barrels, that might be the way to go. I have a SIG P226 in 40 that I switched to .357 SIG by changing barrels. Another thing to keep in mind is what are you going to use the gun for. For CCW use, I'd go with a 9 because recoil is easier to manage and that will equate to more rounds on target. I still carry a .45, but I'm seriously considering switching my carry gun to a 9 after doing some training with Rob Pincus (I hope I spelled that right). Recoil management seems to be the key, I can get 8 rounds of 9 on target faster than I can 8 rounds of .45, and I've sent more than a few thousand rounds downrange. Just my :twocents:

I found an old picture of my upper from when I was building my 10" AR all and all I can do is stare at the ammo its sitting on! Before things were crazy I bought that in two trips to walmart for something like $17-18 per 100!

This makes me sad..now a "decent" deal is 50 rounds for the same price.

JWillis72 12-27-2013 03:02 PM

I haven't seen prices that low for 50 rounds here.

scionide 12-28-2013 11:53 PM

Yea I only see prices like that online, all local stores charge more :(

MightyBobo 12-29-2013 12:44 AM

Why people would buy ammo from local stores, I don't know. The OMG-amazing price my local range had for 1000 rds of .223 was....$500. 50 rds of .45? $35

I'll stick to Dicks and Cabellas, thx...

I order lots of ammo online but back then you couldn't beat walmarts price online for 9mm that had the power to run a open bolt sub-machine gun without getting runaways.

Before our president was elected I bought 50K leads, primers and 24 lb of powder so I will be shooting 9mm for a long time at 9-10 cents a round.

It's a fantastic gun. I've only taken it duck hunting once so far, but it did great. Got nice and dirty and still shot like a dream. I like my 20 gauge BPS a little better for skeet/trap shooting, but the SX3 is a ton of fun to shoot for those too. It is definitely going to be my "beater" gun in the future, its just built so well so I'm not afraid to let it take some abuse. I'm considering getting a Benelli SuperSport right now, so if I get that the SX3 will probably go to my dad except when I'm hunting in the water.

Awesome. It's such an undersold gun. Such a shame. I LOVE mine. I have a Benelli Super Black Eagle 2... Never again. Such crap. If you don't use high power loads sometimes it doesn't cycle. And it likes to be kept clean and oiled. My SX3 goes through more abuse now, 5000 rounds and no issues, no cleaning, maybe oiled it once?
I used my trusty 11-87 instead of my Benelli 99% of the time, it just weighed a lot more than the 11-87.
Oh, and the 11-87 I'd shoot 250 rounds non stop for 2000 rounds. Gone through 20-30k of ammo without anything, never had one hiccup.

Anyone recommend a shotgun that I can have fun with and modify?
