Funny you should mention the tire pressure issue - we basically just had our first cold spell of the year (it got down below 50F :icon17:). One of our friends who came by to visit yesterday while I was doing the oil change asked about her TPMS light that just came on. All four tires measured 25-27 psi when they're supposed to be 35 psi, so I took care of that for her.

http://i45.tinypic.com/rwuhzq.jpg

The only thing I found that would work to siphon was some narrow hard plastic tubing I had for my refrigerator water connection. It worked well, it was just slow as Mu's sperm :icon17: Good news, though, the first 1/4 Qt. of the siphoned oil was black and nasty and must have been the leftover oil that isn't able to drain from the pan  The remaining oil I removed looked much cleaner. I left it at the high mark on the dipstick so I could probably stand to get rid of a bit more. However, I don't really have the time this week. Does anyone think it's critical enough that I make time to siphon some more?

the manual says it just has to be between high and low mark. my assumption is as long as you're not higher than the high mark, you're fine

when it gets really cold your tpms may come on until the tires warm up.. best way to prevent this.. just fill with nitrogen.

I usually stop it a little short of the recommended psi when I'm filling up cold tires in cold weather just for that reason. I can't fill up my tires with nitrogen at home, so I stopped doing that after my first tire change. I also had a lot of difficultly finding nearby shops that carry nitrogen, so that was another reason to switch. But for those that don't mind taking to the dealership, nitrogen is a good alternative.

Ahh, lovely morning. Three inches of snow on the ground, traffic accidents everywhere, overcast and more snow on the way. Love winter!

daisuke149 10-29-2012 12:17 PM

nearly all tire shop chains do nitrogen now too and its cheap.

Mt Tam I am 10-29-2012 12:55 PM

I am screwing with my slot car track. I changed the track configuration on half and I am slow adjusting to change.
